  • Don't panic if your transfer case is bad on your Dodge Durango or Jeep this easy to fix proceedure cost me less than $300. it cost me that much because i bought the chain from a local dealer. I work on electronics by trade but i didn't have $4000 to spend on a 2011 Durango thats worth $8000
    $2000 for rebuilt xfer case and $400 for a garage to install. A donkey from new york wanted to charge me $1100 for a used one. He said "Another one! !! I can't take these out fast enough! "Thats when i knew i didn't want his junk, they dont even check them.

      Fat chance it’s the module what happens is when you don’t replace all four tires the module detect that the wheels in the front are turning at a difference speed than the wheels in the back because they’re not the same size tires that are new 10/32 and should definitely be changed when the 2/32 But that’s the system is that it’s too sensitive and people who only change two tires that keeps going in and out of four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive if it’s making that kind of noise you either broke it I’m going in and out so much or the chain is so severely stretched, and it needs to be changed as soon as possible

      @@HookinFever there was a tricky part it lists two different types of transfer cases and I didn’t get it, but I used the one in the manual for single speed because the other one is for the automatic transfer case and you know you have this if you have a motor on that transfer case that engages that’s why you’re supposed to change all four tires at the same time

    Great job on the video. As i understand it from your comment on someone elses post youve suffered a stroke. You did great man. Thanks for leading the charge on this. Im going to tackle this myself. Would you believe i was quoted $5,100 in the Seattle area to R&R The transfer case!?! No way!
    Just a minor correction on your diagnosis. 1. You didnt do anything wrong. These chains stretch and not due to changing fluid or not. 2. The noise is from the chain slipping over the sprockets due to being stretched. You might notice upon acceleration that you dont have full power, which is due to lack of traction.
    How hard was the sprocket removal?

    • @jameseiden2340
      @jameseiden2340  8 місяців тому +1

      My research is pointing the finger at me because I didn’t buy four tires at a time. I only bought two and they’re saying that puts extra pressure on the chain because the wheels aren’t the same size if one severely worn down and the other ones are brand new the tires are not the same size. As for the sprocket, I didn’t take that off. It comes attached to the shaft. Once you get the cover off, you put the new chain on then you put the sprocket back in the shaft. That’s the only way to get it it was incredibly easy the only thing that I’m totally, amazed by is whatever these parts are made out of you must be the same as the iPhone 15 nothing was scratched damaged or wore down only the chain, but just remember to clean the magnet at the bottom of the case. There was so much metal on it and when you’re taking the shaftsor couplings out so you can get at the transfer case. There is a slot on one side you might have to turn the driveshaft a little bit to rotate it where you can see where to plug those couplings apart.

    Great video, James! Trying to track down a single clunk on acceleration. I'm thinking this might be it. I have the single speed transfer case - 2014 GC 4wd with tow package.

    • @jameseiden2340

      If you put it on the left, I think you can make it do with channel locks on the shaft and give it a yank. You should hear that chain snapping inside I pulled the oil filler plug and got to see inside with the camera and I saw the chain doing it.

      Also, know that the longer you wait the more of a problem it’s going to be if you could catch this thing, making noise and get it when it first starts you just need to chain

      That’s a great question and yes, the answer is in your glove box in your owners manual go figure it has the two different kinds of transfer cases is automatic and the other one is mechanical and automatic I mean it’s electronic when in doubt get your Van number and call your local dealer. i was reading the service manual for this and it says "There is a blue link on one side of the chain. This blue link MUST be
    installed facing upward". Not sure if they mean the blue link should be facing outwards (So you can see it and not towards the back of the housing) or if they mean towards the top of the housing.

      Black gasket maker, silicone I can’t think of the popular name but it’s in a blue and white tube. No amazingly enough just like the sprockets everything wasn’t even scratched and I have 160,000 miles on it. Unbelievable. As for the front, I don’t know I just took the rear out. I left the transfer case inside the vehicle I removed the coupling, separated. It enough loosened all the bolts and took it down. Half of it cleaned out everything clean the magnet check the scrubber checked everything couldn’t find any problems Besides the chain being really stretched I found this by sticking a camera inside the fill hole and I worked a chain back-and-forth and socks slapping around in there that’s why I went on this venture because I really didn’t have $4000 but I will tell you this, I must putclose to 12,000 miles on it now and there’s no problems whatsoever that’s just an update
