Very good review. I would go for the Dolphin because I am a retired old git and am not really interested in performance driving but like my creature comforts.
We're a 60ish couple, about to become grands. This is an important consideration. Some neighbors have the MG for a year now, but we're leaning towards the BYD after test drives.
@@simchadanielburstyn2137 I hope that you enjoy whatever car you buy. According to The Electric Viking on UA-cam there could be upgraded versions of the Dolphin coming, for more information see: NEW 2025 BYD Dolphin gets more range and NO price increase
I noticed someone complained about the pace of your presentation. They're wrong. Your pace is just fine. if you slowed the pace then your video will go for 45 minutes. I don't have the time.
If you're going for the bang-for-buck entry level models (MG Excite 51 vs BYD Dolphin Dynamic) then the BYD is a non-starter. Completely underpowered even for a city runabout. If you step up to the premium offerings (MG Essence 64 / 77 vs BYD Dolphin Premium) then the BYD is absolutely a contender. What you lose out in driving dynamic is easily made up for with the benefits of the BYD LFP battery, as the MG 64, 77 and XPower variants are all NMC chemistry.
Don't care about MG4 to be honest, but Dolphin costs 32.000€ in Germany and around 33.000 pounds in England. Are those Cheap mate? To some people, this is their whole life accomplishment. And to be fair, some people can't even think about those cars. Let's be honest, Cheap is a car that costs less than 10.000, Mid range is a car that costs no more than 30.000 and more than than, those are EXPENSIVE cars. Rest are exotics...
The car I'll pick is.... THE ONE THAT HAVE INDEPENDENT.... rear multi-link suspension as standard just like the more expensive variants. And yes the Excite 51 have the same rear suspension as Essence Long Range 77 and XPower. Off course I'll spend an extra AU$100 for a MUCH BETTER suspension. Technically an independent multi-link suspension cost WAY MORE than a simple torsion beam. I like to say thousands of dollars worth of suspension upgrade if you ask me!
MG 4, get in put your foot on the brake and it gets ready to drive - easy. My car's rear tyre pressure sensors also are very sensitive. The absolute plus of this car is rear wheel drive - excellent!
Trust me, I had my foot through that brake pedal every time I was starting it up to move it around for the shoot, it's a slow to react keyless start. Other than that, it's great value.
Recently test-drove both and liked both. For us the MG4 won for two reasons: 1. My partner found the Dolphin significantly less comfortable to drive. This is a killer thing. She’s quite petite and this is a big problem for her in some cars. The MG was fine for her however. I liked the drive of both but felt the MG was more fun. 2. The gadget first approach of the Dolphin left me cold. I’m a huge gadget freak but I firmly believe the tech should serve the user, not the other way around, and the rotating screen just felt like gadgets for the sake of it to me. Truth be told, they’re both great choices.
Put quality tyres on it and you will notice a huge difference!! I swapped the ling longs to continental and it's completely fine. 0-60 on the trip at 6.2! Also mg reliability very poor, dealership back up very poor after recent experience. Mg4 booring inside and out. Also many ice fwd cars will spin up... Learn to use the throttle and you will be ok!!!
Tires should be better than this from factory, pretty lame to have to replace them from new to get better grip. Additionally, a front wheel drive electric car is going to dynamically inferior to a rear wheel drive one...
@@ProductReviewCars Agree. The mediocre Linglong tyres is one main reason I am not buying the Dolphin Premium. Owners who swapped them while still brand new have problem selling them cause no one want to buy them, many end up throwing these brand new tyres away. What a waste.
Wait a sec, how long ago did you review both cars? Because the MG4 Long Range 77 is now $53K, not the $60K launch price. Also Dolphin has already been on out Australian market for a few months yet you said it is just recently launched?
Yeah shot this a couple of months back. So prices changed since then. Put up the relevant prices for the base models on this review for the sake of comparison. Seems EV prices are changing faster than the seasons at the moment.
Is there much to choose from as they’re both made in China and owned by the Chinese Companies. They both have Lithium Ion battery tech but the BYD has blade battery tech so maybe this is worth a thought I guess.
Ι wish BYD Dolphin had face from other BYD models.... It looks so Chinese and old design in front.... The rear and the interior are amazing and the quality of the interior is amazing...... Make a facelift with other face and I will get it.... Mg face much more pleasing to my eyes but the rest just an family SUV like.
MG4 is a way better car. Its still a car and the MG is a much better drive, i mean how many of us will use all those apps, heck its not even legal in some countries to use them while driving. Overall i tried both and MG 4 wins by a mile.
Both car made by Chinese and own by Chinese companies..I don’t think it’s much different ..maybe some people still doesn’t know that..MG isn’t own by British anymore..it’s had sold to China
Very good review. I would go for the Dolphin because I am a retired old git and am not really interested in performance driving but like my creature comforts.
Thanks! It is the more comfortable car when it comes to interior features for sure

In the mg4 inflate all 4 tyres just over the recommended pressure and that sorts out tyre pressure warnings

I expect all Dolphin puns for this video

How’s your opinion hold up now that the mg4 is on sale for $31k?
Yes, the tyres are less quality, but the Dolphin wheels are much more narrow than the MG 205 vs 235
Great review thank you !
Thank you for watching!
great review, really helped
Glad to hear it!
Small bit of advice. Slow down a little and im sure your channel will grow.

Also, the long range 77kwh MG4 is the same RWD and not AWD only the 64kwh Xpower is AWD

Those spurious tyre warnings would get the car a roadworthy test fail in the uk.
MG4 is 52k AUD in my country, while Dolphin is 40k AUD. WTF! If its 100 AUD difference, MG4 for me haha
yoruldum dinlerken biraz daha sakin anlatsan keşke :)
BYD Seagull US $ 10000
You can turn off the Dolphin speed alarms via shortcuts in a couple of seconds like so … ua-cam.com/video/JiXh-9Pa4WM/v-deo.htmlsi=CO17tfaNzv04mZ6g

That's pretty much?
Slow down buddy
Huhhhhh?
Whatever it is after battery warranty, car worth only body value.
No thanks EV
These Chinese cars were supposed to be cheap. But you must spend the same amount as you would for a Tesla Model 3 for a comparable range.
Tell me you are american without telling me
I think the MG dies 117 kW fast charging.
88kW for the Excite base model, 140 kW (64 kWh battery) and 144 kW (77 kWh battery)

*You look Chinese to me*
I rather push an MGB GT & Leyland Mini than drive MG4 & BYD Dolphin
EV mini? New Chargeheads video has just reviewed one.
