Wow, I did not expect this essay to be this insightful. I think I now understand how Liu Cixin came up with the main theme of his book "The dark forest". He basically elevated the dark forest archetype to the universe. That's also the reason why it sticks so well with the readers, many even considering it to be one of the best scifi books (including me).
That's right. I think David should do a follow up and include a specific reference to Liu Cixin's frightening and surreal definition of a Dark Forest. It will blow David's audience's mind!

Yes, all societies are based on their stories. We need to build a new sustainable society for Earth, therefore we need new stories, but thjey must based based on old themes. AI will play most of the classic parts in our stories, but which?. We need to write our way to a new society. My third such book is now out.
Is there a hidden analogy? The AI is the dark forest of our days? If so, then it's a great one!!!
