    I bought an extended warranty with a used car at a dealership years ago. The transmission went out, and I made a claim. The claim was denied because they said the car I bought was never eligible for said warranty because of the mileage. I say "no problem, just refund me all the premiums I paid since it was never valid". Again they said no, which is literally theft. I lawyered up and they settled.

      I agree but I also think we should be able to live in a world where those who are less intelligent won't get scammed by crooks with nothing done to stop it. It would be a reasonable product for some people if it wasn't a scam. If someone knew they were to weak to save but could pay that monthly bill automatically and be covered that would be good. But no. We live in a world where everyone is out to steal and cheat and take advantage. I hate this world.
      Of course if it was a legit company then in this world the ball would fall the other way and the sorry ass scammer customers and mechanics would be stealing them blind with fake claims and the like. So there's no way to win.
      The only way is the right way and what people should do all along is to save up for a rainy day. Good luck on that happening too right? Some just can't and many others just won't. Sometimes it rains too long and even those who did get wiped out. Sad world. How much better things could be for everyone if we didn't spend all our money on weapons and wars and other wastes. But you gotta do that too because if you don't the other assholes will and then what? Life sucks.

    My son was sold an extended warranty on a 12 year old used car. It was $2750 added to the price. The first paragraph of the one page legal size contract stated all that it covered, the rest of it stated what and how things were not covered. He was given a pill to put in his radiator and told he had to change the oil every 3000 and have a shop documentation.
    On the way home the car died. Towed back to the dealership they got it running. Within about 30 days the engine seized up. The shop determined that the engine rear main seal failed. Contract states in a tiny font, “Engine failure due to loss of fluid is not covered.” I spoke with mechanic s that said about 95% of the major repairs they do are because of loss of fluid.
    I lived in Missouri, the car died 2 days before he went on a 6 month deployment. The dealers “shop” claimed he abandoned it 3 days later and had it towed. I had the towing company store it and told them I’d be there in 30 days.
    Car fax showed it was a fleet vehicle that was assigned to New Orleans at the time of a major hurricane and was registered in a neutral state a year later then sold in a third state. I researched state and federal contract and auto sales laws and went to the dealership with 100 pages of references. The negotiations were short when I pointed out they would lose their license to sell. The contract was not counter signed and was a sized down copy making the font size illegal for contracts. The dealership returned the $12,000+ purchase price and I had to sign a NDA on my son’s behalf. That didn’t stop me from updating the Carfax and notifying the state police of their antics.
    The dealership said, “The warranty is third party and you have to mediate in Nevada.”
    I said, “your company sold this faulty product in this state and this state saws I can sue your dealership if you don’t make this right. I’ll start by contacting local and national news. The manager called the owner who authorized a full refund. The gal in the finance office smiled when she handed the check to me and said, “It’s about time someone got a refund for these crappy deals.”

      From their point of view, if they don't try to avoid paying out, then scamming mechanics will abuse their service. One of the major problems with the insurance and warranty industry is that it has to take into account how people behave when they think they don't have to care about problems. A person who ignores a grinding noise from their driveshaft u-joints because they have insurance will incur a far higher repair bill than someone who gets stuff checked out right away. A person who's engine is running badly may ignore the problem until it becomes catastrophic because 'insurance will cover it.'
      Whenever you see a company doing bad things, you have to ask what would happen to the company if they didn't implement the bad practices. If this company was far less scammy, then you'd have UA-cam videos of people giving advice on how to abuse the system. People would be saying 'hey, if your engine starts knocking, just keep driving and these dupes will buy you a new engine lol.'

    I have been a professional mechanic for 39 years; 26 of that in the retail auto repair business. Looking to retire in the next five years (not soon enough).
    Let me tell you how car shield, or any warranty determines if a component is covered. It all depends on a key phrase "causal part". A customer would expect that an engine would be covered by their warranty whether it is Car Shield, ESP, or even the factory warranty. It states right in the warranty booklet or paperwork that engines are covered, right? Not so fast.
    Engines don’t usually just fail; something makes them fail- this is the causal part that determines if a repair is covered or not. For example, what if the thermostat stuck closed causing the engine to overheat and go into nuclear meltdown. Most warranties would not cover a failed thermostat or any damage caused by it. Since the thermostat is the causal part, the engine failure would not be covered.
    Likewise, transmissions are covered by most warranties and transmissions do fail from time to time. But suppose you are driving along and the transmission blows a seal and dumps out all the fluid. This could ruin a transmission. However, seals are rarely covered by any warranty. You see where I am going with this?
    If the seal isn’t covered, the resulting transmission failure won’t be covered either.
    Whenever there is a warranty claim filed on a major component, Car Shield or any extended warranty will send an inspector to the shop to determine the cause of the failure. It doesn't matter what the mechanic says, the inspector gets the final say which determines whether or not the repair will be covered. These inspectors are trained to look for anything that could decline coverage - lack of maintenance, abuse, non-covered causal part. A customer doesn't stand a chance.
    Most reputable shops won't deal with extended warranties, in fact they really aren't supposed to be called " extended warranties" they are service contracts.
    If you have $100 a month (or whatever it costs) to spend on a service contract, put it in an account and save toward a major repair. You may never need it, but it will be there if you do. Take good care of your car; keep the maintenance done on time, don't ignore little problems until they become a big problem. Cars today are much more reliable than they used to be.

      @@Guillotines_For_Globalists You are right, I can't speak for all extended service plans since I have only dealt with a few. Many of them went out of business years ago and I spoke with an adjuster out of Phoenix who came right out and told me that if he approves too many major repairs, whether or not the claim is legitimate, he would find himself on the outside looking in.
      I would also agree that with a basic warranty from a manufacturer, some repairs are covered that shouldn't be. This is usually done within a dealership to take care of a customer who has purchased several vehicles over the years. Perhaps the customer went off-road and put a hole in the oil pan destroying the engine. The dealership service manager might find a way to cover the engine under warranty and keep a loyal customer happy. Auto manufacturers don't typically send out an inspector for expensive claims unless the dealership has an unusual amount of expensive warranty claims.

    • @Guillotines_For_Globalists
      @Guillotines_For_Globalists 4 місяці тому +2

      @@NonstickMilk True. However as I said I am not an adjuster, just an inspector. I do not approve or deny, although they will "occasionally" listen to my advice of course. I can think of one recently where a lady said "the wheel just fell off when I turned" and the wheel was cracked in multiple places, lower ball joint popped out. No way in hell that wheel got damaged from the ball joint failing first. But the shop later told me that the claim was approved, even though I mentioned that it was likely that there was a collision with a pot hole or kerb immediately beforehand.
      Not long ago I had another inspection where a lower control arm bolt sheared, but the wheel and tire were still in decent shape. In that case, I doubt there was a collision!

      You know something.. you're so right. About 2 years ago I dropped my homeowners insurance for similar reason. I've owned the home outright for 16 years. Its only required to pay homeowners if you have a payment. I continued paying homeowners insurance for 13 years after my house was paid off and the only claim filed was for an AC replacement when a tree fell on it. I paid them tens of thousands of dollars. They have to worry about mechanics scamming them therefore they want mechanics and customers to have to fight to get repairs done so that there will be evidence that the customer is in the right for legal reasons. A scamming mechanic doesn't want to fight to get coverage since he can be sued by the company for fraud. Obviously this company wants happy customers but they don't want to get scammed in the process.

    My dad purchased two extended car warranty's, neither one was car shield, one in 2004 for a 99 Lincoln Continental, the other 2015 for a 04Jeep Cherokee. Both were 36,000 mile/3 year limited power train policies, on both policies he was able to get AAMCO transmission rebuilds, with the second policy being almost expired 33K miles/32 months. The first policy he paid $1150.00 and the second policy he paid $1700.00. Both policies he purchased through his credit union, now when he purchased Toyota vehicles (used) he never purchased the extended warranty (if he did, he would have lost money every time). Moral of story, if you purchase a Toyota, or Honda product do not get an extended warranty, if you purchase a used Chrysler/any German/Nissan/or other luxury car check with your credit union, or bank to see if they recommend one and DON'T MESS WITH ANYTHING FROM CAR SHIELD.

    All extended warranty companies work the same, they immediately deny your claim as step 1 to see what you'll do. They've carefully estimated the percentage of people who will fight and weighed it against the cost of their own in-house representation, most people will accept the loss and walk away because hiring a lawyer is expensive and/or the value of the claim is less or equal to hiring legal representation. Don't ever buy extended warranty for new or used vehicle.

    • @aqgh1
      @aqgh1 4 місяці тому +6

      I have heard that scenario happening to someone and the extended warranty person determined that the reason the engine sent the piston through the side was due to "lack of maintenance" of the previous owner so the repair under warranty wasn't covered.
      It is quite unbelievable that these companies even claim to be extended warranty because if a lack of maintenance of the prior owner causes denied claims, how can you warranty any part of the vehicle as the 2nd or 3rd owner?
      Usually the fine print says something that if maintenance was a factor in the failure, there's no coverage period. This has been interpreted to mean prior owners too. Since someone signed on the dotted line that is the coverage.

I went to work a couple years ago, and when I returned to my car, parked a few blocks from work, I had been hit by someone in the rear left rim and fender. Not a lot of damage but the rear axel was bent quite a bit (front traction vehicle) it was just undrivable. I asked for towing, and they said that I had to file a police report first. WTH! I just needed to go home, and leave my car at the shop. Police repots take hours and it was pratty late. I just ended up paying for it myself. Cancelling the coverage the next day.

    In one of the early seasons of Million Dollar Listing, one of the clients viewing a $25 million Malibu beach house was looking to buy a place for his 19 year old son who was attending UCLA.
    When they showed the father getting off of his private jet to view the house and sign the closing paperwork, I caught the tail number and looked it up. It was registered to the Texas company the father owned that advertised on TV, nationwide, selling that pseudo-not-quite insurance health plan that really only gets you a discount if you pay out of pocket, from a limited number of doctors. Sort of the same way that this pseudo auto warranty really only gets you discounted oil changes and alignments.
    The guy was making so much money selling a discount membership card to people who thought they were buying healthcare coverage. He didn't care that his son could easily live on campus in a dorm when he could afford to buy a twenty million dollar multi level five bedroom beach house for the kid.
