They were talking about which of them were bringing their GFs to Christmas. One of them asked me. I said of course not. Dad asked why. I replied, I know you would be uncomfortable, and its your home, you should be comfortable in your home. He paused, paused, looked me directly in the eye. " You let that be MY PROBLEM, son. You bring him and he will be more than welcome anytime. Are we clear?" That's how I learned what a real father was.
That's really good of you. Everyone in these videos is always saying that they wish that they had a dad like Burt (I'm not trying to put them down or anything, I'm saying this with all due respect), and yes it would be great to have someone like that, but you can't change what you have or don't have in your life. It's who YOU choose to be. So instead of just wishing that you had that kind of person, BE that person.

Burt will always be honest with Kurt he never lies to him like it just proves it here and like when he says to Kurt dude your gay I mean really gay you sing like Diana Ross and dress like you are in a chocolate factory so when Kurt got gay bash and Burt says look at your beautiful face he was being honest and Kurt says he's not worried about it

I always lose it when Kurt barely gets out the line, "I missed you, Dad," before Burt interrupts with "Oh, c'mere," and embraces him. That's pure love.
Revisiting this show. Burt Hummel was probably the first time I had seen a father/parent that reacted the way all gay kids growing up wish their’s had reacted. We all deserve love like this in our lives, otherwise it makes it extremely difficult to love ourselves. We need to love ourselves before we can love someone else, but you need to be taught what real love is supposed to feel like by those who directly influence our development into adulthood.
Burt is an amazing father but man, I understand Kurt’s pain here. Hearing your parents say they imagined life with you differently, especially when you fundamentally can’t be that version for them, hurts. Even if Burt doesn’t mean it in a bad way, it just sucks. And that’s not necessarily Burt’s fault, he always means well when it comes to Kurt. That still doesn’t make it ok. I’m mixed and are closeted, idk how likely it is that I’ll ever have something like this in my life. But if you do, then please cherish it.
Burt is truly one of the best tv dad's out there. This issue even goes beyond straight parents having a gay kid. So many parents end up with kids who just are not like them but they try to push their interests onto them so they can bond over the stuff they already like. Burt telling Kurt it's not his job to work on their relationship, it's just his job to be him is beautiful and more parents should learn this. It's great to try to expose your kids to new interests and it's amazing if you find something you have in common to bond over, but it's not your kid's job to like the things you like, it's not even their job to meet you halfway. They're the child, as the parent, if you want to bond with your child inevitably you're going to have to do the work to go to them and take an interest in the things they're interested in, even if you're not. If your kids like chess? Learn to play with them? Dance? Take a class together if you can or even just watch dancer tutorials on UA-cam at home with them. Again it's great to expose them to new things, but don't just push what you like onto them and automatically expect they will too, and please, please don't be disappointed in them when they don't take an interest in things you like because kids pick up on that sort of thing a hell of a lot earlier in life than most people think and it sticks with them for a long time.

If at least 1/3 of all parents in the world would be as loving, understanding, and ready to work on themselves there would be significantly less work for psychologists.
Neither of my parents were very demonstrative, but I remember a time when I was very young, and we'd gotten home late at night, and I'd fallen asleep. I partially woke up when my dad was carrying me into the house, and I remember feeling so safe in his arms. I just wish I'd had other moments like that, with both him and with my mother. When I was older, and going across the state to seek a job, when I hugged her, she stiffened up as if I'd done something wrong, which made me sad.
They could have written burt to be a downright homophobic bully but I’m so happy that he was the sweetest dad in the world with his son, supportive but learning and realistic.❤ The clips of him playing tea party with his little boy during ‘I want to hold your hand’ get me every time. Also where kurt got attacked later on and burt says ‘look what they did to your beautiful face’ 😢
