Hello! Thank you for the video. I do have a quick question. At 24:00 minutes we are looking at the expanded structure of 4-ethyl-6-methyl-1,3-heptdiene. When we attach ethyl substituent to carbon #4, why is it C2H5? I was under the impression it would be C2H4 (using the alkene general formula of CnH2n) Thanks!
Know that in branched chain it does not show double bond so therfore we will not use the formula for alkene but instead we will use the formula for alkane -1. I hope this will help you. If you still have questions feel free to ask. Thank you ❤️😊

When you're going to name the brach of hydrocarbons do not include the carbon of the parent chain but instead you will just count the Carbon of the Branch. The given is CH3 so therefore it is methly because it consists Of only one carbon.
Please recap 14:30 minutes for you to better understand. And also if you're having a hard time in writing branched hydrocarbon or the alkly group you can write them in expanded structural formula.

We have different formula for branch. In the given , the parent chain is alkene but the branch is not
Know that in branched chain it does not show double bond so therfore we will not use the formula for alkene but instead we will use the formula for alkane -1.
