Thanks Sal ... regarding taxes 1099: I have heard at the Uber mileage rates in central Florida (Tampa/Orlando) writing off the IRS Standard Mileage Rate 57.5 cents a mile will put you even or at a loss come tax time. Yes you are still in the green in your pocket after fuel, maintenance, and car depreciation but I am referring specifically to tax liability. For example, at 100,000 miles a year you will not even begin to be taxed until you hit $57,500 gross.....Everyone's thoughts?
If you're driving for Uber or Lyft (or both), keep records of your mileage every day when you're driving for your rideshare. All that milage is tax-deductible (same thing for tolls, meals you eat in between fares, etc) Keep all you receipts.
wow this guy is so good looking for sure. I have watched many uber videos on you tube and this is by far the most informative and positive. He is a great speaker and interesting to listen too. Presents the facts very professionally and gives information that many of the other videos fail to address. This guy is great. Thanks for all the very helpful information. Uber needs to have you as their Uber Coach/consultant. A lot of good common business sense was presented in this video.
Hey man, I'm all signed up now but was anxious about the first trip. Kinda held it off for a few days. I have to admit though, something told me to check how other people do it. Your video popped up and answered everything for me. I kinda feel now like , "what am I nervous about?" Thanks for deading all the anxiety. Very helpful video man! I'm gonna check out all your other videos.
Sal - thank you for the video they are very helpful. appreciate Uber drivers like you that likes to help people out with your video. i'm waiting to get approved. I have a clean record, I don't do drugs or drink.
Thanks for the vid, Sal. I've been doing it for 3 weeks in Baltimore, Maryland and it's been ok. Lots of short ($5.00) trips in the city, but it's consistent. The most I've done in one day was $320 before taxes and Uber fees driving 14 hours (1PM - 3AM) on a Sat. I'm used to driving long hours, as I have a CDL and used to be on the road for 14 hour a day. Had 3 people trying to ride with an open container -- uh, no! Kindly asked them to chug it before we can go. Also, if it's busy and your next ping is more than 11 minutes away, ignore it because they like to cancel a few minutes into the pickup.
You said you drive in nj? Just wondering how popular is uber getting NJ, and how far have you gone throughout the whole state? Its funny how the NY rates are different than NJ, i work for delta airlines part time so i do alot of traveling looking to get into uber but great video bro!!
coupla things, great video, really helped and I'll use your referral. Just heads up I hear Camden and Paterson are paying a premium for those that venture forth..😁 oh and why does Sal from NJ sound like Vin from Long Island? I'm from Bergen County but you got either a Long or Staten Island accent...
Sal Im in South Philly and all signed up but can't shake off the heebi geebiz. So I havent took my first ride yet. Did you have that and if so, how did u shake it off?
I hear ya, That first depends on what's got you nervous. I would say do the morning rush hour times to start. You get alot of people on their way to work. Most people are nice or just don't really talk at all. I would say the best way to get over it is to just do it! thats the cure for most things in life that your afraid to do. Action cures fear!
I made myself turn the app on. 1st ride came in, the app is common sense, but there's a video u watch like a demo...Anyway took my first call, completed it and put myself offline after the drop off to let it all sink in. It's too simple you won't even believe why u were nervous. I got nervous when I got my first uberpool, car was full of ppl. Now when I do pools I don't think of the individual ppl,I just put it in my mind that its a regular pick up. The app does everything for u.
Good video Sal, you seem like a cool dude. What’s it like working the Newark airport scene ? Could you just hang out there and make 10 rides. They gotta be like $15 a pop right ? $150 for 10 rides doesn’t sound too bad but I’m not a uber driver so I can’t say. Just curious
I'm thinking about doing Uber, need something to supplement my income. I just subbed to your channel and will be contacting you soon Sal. Thanks for the upload.
nice arm tattoos man. I just joined yesterday, waiting to start driving. I live in the DC area and my friend thats a driver said he makes an average of $25-30/hr. Pretty excited to get started.
I don't accept trips longer than 10 minutes to pick up the customer, so I don't run into the problems you talked about. 90% or more of my rides are under 10 minutes to the pick up.
I've never had it work out in my favor, in terms of the passenger being closer than what Uber/Lyft says. It's typically the other way around. For example, Uber/Lyft says passenger is 10 mins away but when Google maps launches it will say 14 mins away. It appears in most cases that Uber/Lyft maybe doing this so that drivers will accept the ride as opposed to seeing the actual time and declining the ride. Anyone experiencing this?
My first time watching. Fairly new to both uber/lyft. Appreciate ur video. Glad u talked abt surging. I was following it. Any suggestion on how to not spend so much on gas. I live in sm town 45 min to Grand Rapids MI closest point to service area. Seems I am filling every day to every other.
One way to save gas is to not drive in between pick ups. Pull over and wait for your next call, if you don't get a call within 5 to 10 minutes then drive again.
I would just mention that you should use IRS Form 1040ES to pay taxes quarterly or you will suffer a penalty. The easiest way to avoid an underpayment penalty is to pay 1/4 of your tax payment from last year. You will still have to pay your taxes but there's no penalty. (CYA - Check with your accountant or, if you're poor, look it up in google.)
The number one tip I've learned is to always pull up about a hundred feet in front of your actual pickup spot so that the writer has to come up from behind you that way you can look in the rearview mirror and if your spidey sense goes off at this person is sketchy or there's something not right about this picture you can always pull away
Hi Sal ! Greetings to U from Western NY - I am living near Rochester I don’t currently have a license now but I am working on getting it back Soon New To Ur channel but I’m subscribed Now Hey 👋🏼 best to You and Ur driving Travel Safely
Do u chase the surges and when u do a ride do u wait in that area to get another one or do u drive somewhere else cause I drove a lot today it seems like I'm doing something wrong
So there is deals for higher surge like rates in a square block area in the same city one hour away from me.... Im not familiar driving that area. Is it still worth driving that hlur away to see if Ill make more money by staying in that area all day?
hey, I'm north jersey also. Was wondering what you knew about Hoboken on weekends? Getting signed up now, and wanted to check if maybe the bar scene was worth it? Lots of horror videos out there, like that Uber guy who had to mace somebody. What do you think? IS drunken bar money worth the aggravation?
I'd say try it, or cut if off at 11pm or midnight. Get them to the bar just don't take them home. the money is good so it's worth a try, if it's too much try another time and place.
I'm new to uber I done a couple trips but my question is it a good idea to have a video recording in my car while I do uber. Can you send me a link with a great camcorder
I wanted to ask about the gps...I like using google maps so would I be able to open the uber app and have it in the background while I use google maps or do I have to use what's inside the uber app? Also the tax thing...when you got paid did you just take out 30% along with the 20% UBER takes?...
Kyeron Rhodes you can use what ever GPS you want to use. As long as you start and end the trip it doesn't matter what route you take the get there. I think Uber has an option to link to google maps.
Thank your for the Video. I am new Uber driver and I like it so far. The only thing I do not like is when i take people to the airport and then I go back to my area without a rider? do you have recomendation
the only suggestion i can give is don't have a certain area you want to stay in, Sometimes if there is a place to park or just pull over and wait for your next call you come in near the area you just dropped off. You will save gas and alot of times get a call not far from your last drop off. I would say wait no more then 10 mins before moving on though
So today is my first day as a driver. I'm very excited. One thing I'm confused about though, my car can only accommodate 3 passengers- what if there is a request for more?
Sal Marone next question. If I decided to take a road trip and I want to use the app along the way, am I able to do that or am I confined to one territory?
the other day I dropped a guy off at jfk airport from Hoboken. I waited a little while to get a ride and didn't. are you not able to get rides in New York if you are licensed in nj?
Great video Sal. I'm an uber in Tx, and i'm seeing an issue with my riders not putting their destination in when they request me. So i pick them up and then they (usually drunk) navigate me to where they are going, its kinda frustrating to be honest. Also i helped a first time rider last night and showed him how to use the app and i didnt see any spot on his phone for the "tip" amount??? Am I missing something?
+Cpatel217 you have to complete a certain amount of trips to be able to get a fuel card, I think its 200 trips. and they take the money for the fuel out of your earnings which can be good to keep track of the fuel you use.
Hey Sal this Mike in San Antonio, TX - really appreciate the video. I just signed up and, like many of us, I'm looking to fill in the income gaps while I search for a career in teaching, and while my wife is home on maternity (making 70% of her normal income). All that said, I have 3 questions: 1. I need (at minimum), $350 a week to supplement our missing income - do you feel this number is attainable and how many hours/days (guesstimate), would you recommend I punch the clock? 2. As a first time driver, can you recommend areas that will break me in as well offer that income I'm looking for (i.e. rush hour near my home, downtown, airport, etc etc). 3. I have a 2007 4 door Nissan Frontier - clean yes, but I'm a bit worried that it's a truck and not a comfy sedan. Should I be worried? Thank you in advance brother. Cheers!
Hey Mike, You can make $350 a week with maybe 4 to 5 hours a day. I don't know your area so I have no recommendations for where to drive, Look for train stations and busy area's like that. Also If the car is 4 Doors and clean I wouldn't worry about it. if anything you have some place to put luggage is need be. Good luck out there and drive safe!
Sal, thanks for the quick response - awesome tips. Of course, putting in the hard yards and getting used to the tricks of the trade will come with due diligence - but is that 4 to 5 hours a day 5 days a week or...?
Also, a quick hunch on my part to start - San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the states, but it's a low traffic, laid back town. I grew up in L.A., so to me, rush hour doesn't bother me at all. That said, I'm thinking of hitting downtown early (5am) for people leaving town trying to catch flights (flights start 5am here)....then maybe I'll grab those needing to go downtown (or home) from the airport. Hit that for 4 - 5 hours. Just my thought.
The best times and also the most challenging times are the club and bars at night, I usually do the morning and evening rush hours. I find that you get good working people during those times
How's it going, i just started Uber and so far so good, but im trying to figure which tax form i should use? Im 22 single, no kids, and being so use to just W2's seeing the options i just went with the 1099 K....is that the correct choice for me?
+-Sir WESLEE- Hey man, I'm glad you're enjoying Uber so far. I wasn't aware that there were other tax choices, I thought you just had the 1099 option. I'm going to get the 1099 this year. That seems the best option. So people told me to see an account and pay in installments every quarter. So after this tax season I'm going to see how I do money wise and take my tax guy about coming up with a plan for next year.
30% percent i pretty much what I put away for tax time. But with alot of miles I put on I may have to file a loss cause this Uber thing is not a lot of profit but a shit load of hours. Anyway good luck to all drive safe out there peace.
Have another question in the event u have a accident while pax in ur car, r they covered under ur personal insurance do u know? Also u mentioned u have a link to ur website? Can u send it.
Hey Cindi, If someone is in your car you are covered under Uber's insurance up until a certain amount. I don't know what it is in your market I would check with Uber on that. Also The link I mention is my Uber sign up link, its in the description of the video. Thanks for commenting. Drive safe out there.
hello sir,i am also from NJ.i would like to drive Uber.i would like to know about the dash cam.is it legal to use a dash cam in the car( I mean dual cam)if so should I put a sign inside the car.please kindly reply
hey sal liked the video i already started the signup process but wouldnt mind useing you as referral. they said i needed you to use a retroactive code or something. they said if you get on chat they can tell you what you need to do. anyway if you need info from me let me know leater
I am all set to drive but I have a question, i'm a little confused about how the uber up is up on the phone and my googlemaps? Does uber have their own gps that goes with their app?
I use an iPhone 6 Plus. But if you can use a tablet and you have the data plan to cover it I would say try the tablet. I see guys with the 10" iPad and it looks likes it works well.
okay great I have a windows phone which uber driver app does not support so I'm debating on rather I should buy a tablet or rent a iPhone through uber, because a trade out is not an option for me at this time with my phone comp. So I think the tablet is by far the best- least in expensive option for me at this time. Thanks for the prompt response my friend
Stupor Simple my only advice would be, give good service. Don't expect that people will tip just because they can. Be grateful when they do. And accept the fact that most people won't.
what do you think about uber incentive pay? is a gimmick BS?... I'm an uber driver and I was offer $550 if I complete 100 trips, 75 trips for $450, and the minimum being $100 for 40 trips. So I signed up for it and I completed 80 trips by the end of the week. Now I read the rules that you must have an 80% Acceptance rate, and other rules to qualify for the promotion. So I make sure to accept most of the request, while they were a few I did not (because they were too far to pick up, further than normal which is weird) or had to cancelled, but I did accepted alot of request that's for sure. So I was really looking forward to get my $450 extra since I completed 80 trips, but I get a message saying I did not qualify because I had a 79% acceptance rate...like really?!...To me, I think that's bullshit because they can literally come up with any excuse to not give you that incentive pay! and is just a way of them using you. I will quit uber if something like that ever happens again.
+Jake I don't know anything about that to tell you the truth, I'm not sure if they offer that in my market yet. But quitting would earn zero $ so i don't see that being a good option.
hey man, i am thinking about starting uber, do i need to get rideshare insurance, or notify my insurance company, currently i have geico, will i risk of being cancel, thanks
+Henry Jensen That all depends on what city you are in. Uber does have insurance for when riders are in the car. So in the event that an accident does happen with a passenger in the car you are covered under Uber's policy. But that doesn't mean your insurance company will not require an additional insurance. I drive part time, I use my car for personal use 85% of the time. I can't advise you not to tell your insurance company, that will have be your decision.
In the state where I live I wasn't told I needed it. I don't have it because I do Uber strickly as a part time thing. But I would say it can't hurt to see what the cost is if you're going to dirve full time.
Sal Marone I'm in country 'ol Southern Alabama! I downloaded the app for people looking to get a ride and nothing popped up. Everyone has a car down here.
+David Henriquez From what I see its the 4am to 6am thats the "peak" time in the morning, and the late night. the bottom line is the more time on the road the more money you will make,
+Cpatel217 you get the tolls back in the price of the trip, they also give you full price of the toll, do if you are getting a discount due to ezpass you will in some cases make a few dollars on the trip.
Not always but sometimes, Never expected always appreciated. I always tell people it's not necessary when its offered and if they insist I accept it as to not be rude.
No, don't tell them its not necessary. all tipping is voluntary otherwise its a fee. I tip waiters, barber, car wash guy, hotel people, hookers etc. people who don't tip are cheapskates. nice riders get a 5 star rating, nice riders that tip deserve a better rating. PLEASE, reserve a 5 star rating for riders that tip.
+victor larraondo As of now you do not need a taxi medallion, Some states require you to have a TLC license and TLC license plates on your car, But that's not the case here in NJ
So, can I communicate with these clowns? I'd like to drive, i think...but i'd like to offer some ideas too. For ex., is it possible to define my area? Like, if i'm not willing to go out-of-county?
No way! Jean-Claude Van Damne is an Uber driver too... awesome! Passengers better listen to what he says... or else!
:)
Eddie Anderson
Yeah! It's so weird how JCVD's Brussels accent sounds like Jersey now!

it should be anywhere in your state
Thanks, Sal good info
the other day I dropped a guy off at jfk airport from Hoboken. I waited a little while to get a ride and didn't. are you not able to get rides in New York if you are licensed in nj?
If you're licensed in NJ you can't pick up in NY. It make the JKF Not always worth it, but it the nature of the beast.

uber doesn't have a tip option. lyft does
your voice is so adorable
Opinions and information on the partner fuel card ?
+Cpatel217 you have to complete a certain amount of trips to be able to get a fuel card, I think its 200 trips. and they take the money for the fuel out of your earnings which can be good to keep track of the fuel you use.

Sal, thanks for the quick response - awesome tips. Of course, putting in the hard yards and getting used to the tricks of the trade will come with due diligence - but is that 4 to 5 hours a day 5 days a week or...?
I would say a minimum of 3 hours a day will get you up to $350 or so.
Sal Marone sounds great thank you! Can't wait to see if this is the real deal. We really need this to work out for the next 5 weeks and maybe beyond.
Yo man I live right by Secaucus, about to start Ubering! What are the best times to drive? When do you get the most rides?
Just been accepted where can I go to go get my logo decal stickers... just want to get going....
+linda salfen they should send you a welcome package. Contact Uber and see how they do that. I don't remember how it worked when I first started.
30% percent i pretty much what I put away for tax time. But with alot of miles I put on I may have to file a loss cause this Uber thing is not a lot of profit but a shit load of hours. Anyway good luck to all drive safe out there peace.
I'm about to start in south jersey you think it's worth it? Hangout by the college towns, Atlantic City, the airport etc?
Sure I think you will do well. In the college towns alot of kids don't have cars. And you can make sure they get home safe from the bars
That is what I am hoping. Hangout around Stockton, Rowan etc. Thanks for the response
Thanks Sal.
I sent you an email hoping to learn how to make the most of my Uber driving.
I got your email and sent you a message, I'm going to be doing a Q&A video soon. look out for it
hello sir,i am also from NJ.i would like to drive Uber.i would like to know about the dash cam.is it legal to use a dash cam in the car( I mean dual cam)if so should I put a sign inside the car.please kindly reply
I don't know anything about dash cams, I would check with the Uber office in your market.
Thanks a lot
what do you do bout insurance
hey sal liked the video i already started the signup process but wouldnt mind useing you as referral. they said i needed you to use a retroactive code or something. they said if you get on chat they can tell you what you need to do. anyway if you need info from me let me know leater
I've had others use my info and usually what they ask is for you to give them my name and email. and they can usually get it done on your end.
my email is sal.marone@yahoo.com and full name Salvatore Marone
I am all set to drive but I have a question, i'm a little confused about how the uber up is up on the phone and my googlemaps? Does uber have their own gps that goes with their app?
there is a built in GPS in the Uber app. you can choose 1 of 3 GPS's Waze, Uber, Google maps or
I just signed up and I can tell you that where I live this will not work.
Do you recommend using a phone or tablet , navigation wise?
I use an iPhone 6 Plus. But if you can use a tablet and you have the data plan to cover it I would say try the tablet. I see guys with the 10" iPad and it looks likes it works well.
okay great I have a windows phone which uber driver app does not support so I'm debating on rather I should buy a tablet or rent a iPhone through uber, because a trade out is not an option for me at this time with my phone comp. So I think the tablet is by far the best- least in expensive option for me at this time. Thanks for the prompt response my friend
Never a problem, Drive safe and good luck out there!
Sal, any tips regarding the new tipping feature?
Stupor Simple my only advice would be, give good service. Don't expect that people will tip just because they can. Be grateful when they do. And accept the fact that most people won't.
Good points. Would be nice for the tipping culture of Uber to change.
what do you think about uber incentive pay? is a gimmick BS?...
But quitting would earn zero $ so i don't see that being a good option.
what if you don't know the area well, do you panic? I would!
I just follow my GPS. You have your choice of 4 different GPS's so I use Waze mostly.
Sal Marone me too I like it best!
hey man, i am thinking about starting uber, do i need to get rideshare
insurance, or notify my insurance company, currently i have geico, will i
risk of being cancel, thanks
+Henry Jensen That all depends on what city you are in. Uber does have insurance for when riders are in the car. So in the event that an accident does happen with a passenger in the car you are covered under Uber's policy. But that doesn't mean your insurance company will not require an additional insurance. I drive part time, I use my car for personal use 85% of the time. I can't advise you not to tell your insurance company, that will have be your decision.
what are your thoughts about female uber driver, is it safe? my sister keeps thinking about it.. not sure if she should or not. Thank you.
not a good idea. women dont make good drivers.
We do too make good drivers
Thanks for sharing.
After 30%, gas, and vehicle maintenance, do you think it's still worth it?
Truthfully, I feel its good as a part time thing or a temporary gig. I don't feel its a good for a full time thing
+Sal Marone Thanks for the prompt reply. Did you purchase commercial or ride share insurance to do this? That's probably the most concerning thing.
In the state where I live I wasn't told I needed it. I don't have it because I do Uber strickly as a part time thing. But I would say it can't hurt to see what the cost is if you're going to dirve full time.
he looks at his blind spots like hes taking the driving exam
This dude would get hella hit on if he did the bar hours 🤣
uber needs to stop the new driver sign up we the uber driver since day one are getting hurt by all this new driver's.
+jonathan oviedo I agree.
what car are you driving in the video?
2006 Toyota Corolla
I remember that you have to use a car under 10 years old, so are you planning on getting a new one? Or is there an exception?
Actually they changed that, Now you need a car that if from 2001 or newer.
Can you imagine him pulling up to take you to the city? Oh my gosh! This is the Uber driver?
I'd actually like doing this...but Uber is not poppin my area.
MrsLB Hey Mrs LB. what area are you in? they don't have any ride sharing in your area?
Sal Marone I'm in country 'ol Southern Alabama! I downloaded the app for people looking to get a ride and nothing popped up. Everyone has a car down here.
Subbed for the accent!
Have you got any tips yet ?
Can you give an estimate of what youre making a week? im in st louis and thinking of doing this.
I drive around 4 hours a day and I average $20 an hour. I make anywhere from $300 to $450.
+Sal Marone what's the best time to make a killing?
+Sal Marone also is there any way to get the long rides.
+David Henriquez From what I see its the 4am to 6am thats the "peak" time in the morning, and the late night. the bottom line is the more time on the road the more money you will make,
+David Henriquez you have no control over the calls you get, you take it as it comes. some day will be better than others
How do we get reimbursed for tolls? I have an ez-pass.
+Cpatel217 you get the tolls back in the price of the trip, they also give you full price of the toll, do if you are getting a discount due to ezpass you will in some cases make a few dollars on the trip.
no boss. thank God.
you can't drive for uber if your vehicle is less then a 2005 model even if its nicely done up.
Alick Djamirze
Alick Djamirze Hey they updated that now you can drive 2002 and up as long as it passes a small inspection.
bro my car is a 95 model. what??
huh?
Do you get cash tips
Not always but sometimes, Never expected always appreciated. I always tell people it's not necessary when its offered and if they insist I accept it as to not be rude.
No, don't tell them its not necessary. all tipping is voluntary otherwise its a fee. I tip waiters, barber, car wash guy, hotel people, hookers etc. people who don't tip are cheapskates. nice riders get a 5 star rating, nice riders that tip deserve a better rating. PLEASE, reserve a 5 star rating for riders that tip.
I do need help with that lol
"Something like that" hahaha!!
hello do you need taxi medallion for uber ?
+victor larraondo As of now you do not need a taxi medallion, Some states require you to have a TLC license and TLC license plates on your car, But that's not the case here in NJ
you look like Jean cloud van dam
You have gorgeous eyes... thnx for the great tips!
So, can I communicate with these clowns? I'd like to drive, i think...but i'd like to offer some ideas too. For ex., is it possible to define my area? Like, if i'm not willing to go out-of-county?
no, if you could do that Uber wouldn't be the service it is.
wow, is he cute or what??
Axel Kodah or what.
Come on admit it Kacie Glass
only one uber vid? That kinda sucks.
I have 2 more. One is linked in the description.
Are you married?? 😊
Damn way to put on some lbs with Uber
Not nice
He looks great
Damn your an ass!!!!! He looks good!!! Keep your rudeness comments to yourself
