As a Steeler fan, I can't understand how people thought that they would be a bad team this season. You stated very well in this video about them having 2 really good drafts in a row. They made very good moves in free agency/trades and hired a topnotch OC in Artie Smith. This is the most talent the Steelers have had in about a decade. If people were paying attention this was easy to see that the Steelers were going to be a very good team. 12-5 was what I predicted before the season. 12-5 looks about right after the first 8 games.
People listen to the national media folks like Colin Cowturd and have this weird preconceived notion that unless the team does exactly what they would do then they won’t get better. Looking at this roster they are full of talent and depth. They got a real NFL OC who gives them an identity. They really went out and addressed they big issues that have plagued them the last couple years
@@daveb8665yeah Steelers fans are spoiled and act like there aren’t 31 other teams trying to do the same thing yet our team and staff have to be the best every year. Like do they realized just under half the league has never won a Super Bowl? It’s not easy. Look, former GM Colbert deserves praise for what he’s done but we can’t pretend like he hasn’t missed on drafts and free agency his last several seasons… but somehow a roster with far less talent is expected get to the playoffs and win against far better teams? I don’t get it. I just thought we were lucky to be there most of the time, since about 2017 I haven’t felt great about their chances.
Budddy after watching them go to the playoffs with last years team, an amazing defense, and a mediocre passing offense. I knew right the way if we had the production Russel Wilson had last year vs Kenny picket we would be a very good team. Idk how people thought we would be a bad team with a more competent qb
@@oscardelgadillo4165 Add to that another outstanding draft, free agency/trade moves besides the obvious upgrade at QB, I don't know how others couldn't see what was to come!
Darnell Washington, our fantastic blocking TE is also a pass catching threat. NO saftey or corner really wants to tackle him (or Najee Harris). Washington's hand span is 12.2 inches. The average hand size for males in America is around 7.5 - 8 inches. Watch when he has the ball, it disappears in that huge paw. The Steelers have barely scratched the surface with plays to him.. Bully Ball is Back in the Burgh!!
We're so lucky to get Sanjit for free on UA-cam. That dude digests more film than I have the time to watch and knows more about blocking than I could ever hope to learn.
Okay guys, here's a comment I know I'm going to get some flack over, but I'm going to say it regardless. After watching this, I have to say, Darnell Washington is a better blocker than Heath Miller was, and we all know how great Miller was. Darnell is an incredible blocking TE. Not only is he the best blocking TEs in all of football, but he's one of the best blockers, period. Watch how he uses his arm strength, and how he positions himself. Heath Miller is not doing that. The idea of Washington being a Tackle and being made eligible on certain plays in certain games is no where near a bad idea. This dude has Pro Bowl written all over him if he gets targeted more. He's no shabby receiver, and what he does after the catch with his size is simply remarkable. Folks, down the line, I think we are looking at our next great TE. If not, then definitely one of the league's best Tackles, should the Steelers ever start to trend in that direction with him. He's an incredible athlete, and he turns into a well-controlled monster when the ball is snapped. He loves to block. You can definitely tell as much. If he can keep himself healthy, I believe the sky is the limit for him in the Black & Gold.
I realized it from the beginning. Guy is huge! But I would of been throwing balls to him till he proved his hands are no good. Already knew he was an excellent blocker.
He was also getting embarrassed by TJ in camp A LOT. Darnell said it himself. At his size you're going to win reps against anyone occasionally and he his a terrific blocker as a TE but elite edge guys would consistently dominate him. That's why casuals saying we need to move him to RT just simply don't understand
I love this guy. The two sports teams I support are the Steelers and the New Zealand All Blacks and Washington reminds me of Jonah Lomu. If you don’t know who he is there are plenty of highlight reels.
Excellent Film ‘ study @10:48 “Swiping vs Crosby” held his own and better. Washington is the real deal. Steelers need to dial more 13 line ups, w/ ‘Muth and Washington on field at same time…a lot of route, runs and rollouts from that set …plus throw in a motion on occasion. Here We Go!
Eric Green used to be the greatest blocking TE the Steelers ever had but he was also a beast in the passing game. He was a 280 lb monster back in the early 90s. Washington reminds me of him blocking wise but if he can get his receiving skills up more he'll be the best TE in the league!
I saw Washington's size and drooled. He's an extra tackle on the strong side. A literal tank. Friermuth is the pass catching TE and does that well. Washington can go out 5-10 yards and is a decent pass catcher. Not fast at all. But so large that he might take 2 guys to tackle him. But Darnell Washington is made to run block. The last two drafts of Omar Khan and Head Scout Andy Weidl have given The Steelers some good players.
Basically your owner sucks. He's too involved with day to day operations of the Cowboys. Here in Pittsburgh, we can go two years before Mr. Rooney says anything about his wishes for the team. He's a business man first and an awesome owner. 🥇
Yup! Washington is going to be one of the best blocking tight ends ever!! Just wait and his receiving abilities will also develop. Then he will have the total package! Our Steelers are very lucky to have him on the team!
I'll take him as our modern day Matt Spaeth. The steelers have always drafted blocking te and nowadays its getting more difficult to find good ones. He also was a bulldog so comes from a winning program
He’s gone get better at running routes too . He is hard to cover period cuz his fast and large . A person That tall and large is gona be open a lot vs one on ones . I see big games for him . Redzone just give him a short pass and let him go one on one vs a safy and I bet be wins and score . Simple 2nd and goal 5 yards to go feed him a 2 yard pass and let him break that tackle , he gona blend that safty to the ground . U put other routes around his route so they respect those routes too that man gona score lol but I ent an offensive coordinator but i am not blind . One on one Darnel not going down by no one person safety no way
I remember when he pancaked Nick Bosa… so happy he is finally getting the ball. It feels unfair to basically have an extra lineman who can also catch a ball and truck and hurdle someone
They ought to put him in some different offensive place. I'd like to see him as running back one time with third and three😂 or I would like to see a screen pass for him😂
I tell people Darnell is an old school tight end from the 1970s - 1990s like HOF player Dave Casper. Thats why they didnt use him at Georgia, they didnt know how to use him. So glad hes getting plays this season. Matt Canada was such a moron. TJ Watt is said to teach him how to block edge rushers.
He is an athletic freak and could easily be a down field tight end if he didn't need to block so much. Another team will sign him away and his offense stats could explode
Here I am, bringing it down to earth again on a player. He lasted till the 3rd round, because he has bad knees and ankles. I saw him solidly rated as either the 2nd or 3rd best tight end in the 2023 draft. If he somehow stays healthy, he's an asset. Not in red zone as most people thought, but because of his elite blocking as shown above. But his legs will loom over his career. There's no getting around it.
Head and eyes forward and helmet lower than that of the Defensive End establishing a foundation for the legs.... Then Darnell has outstanding "Wrestling" ability and upper body strength and length with a 34.5" reach... You just can't teach that...
So happy we’re finally using him in the passing game as well. He’s a monster
Washington is like the perfect TE for an Arthur Smith offense
As a Steeler fan, I can't understand how people thought that they would be a bad team this season. You stated very well in this video about them having 2 really good drafts in a row. I think its down to unrealistic Expectations, theres a group who say steelers are a bad team/Tomlin a bad coach if they dont win the superbowl.

Incredible player..i was so glad when we got him 2 seasons ago
I was so excited when we picked him up in the draft. Watch his combine especially the sled push… he absolutely obliterated it
We're so lucky to get Sanjit for free on UA-cam. That dude digests more film than I have the time to watch and knows more about blocking than I could ever hope to learn.

He could play at Right Tackle instead of Jones and be an instant upgrade !!
I realized it from the beginning. Guy is huge! But I would of been throwing balls to him till he proved his hands are no good. Already knew he was an excellent blocker.
He got hands dawg
His hurdle is so far my steelers play of the season :D Big Man goes airborne !!! :D
That was insane especially after that BURIED ALIVE stiff arm 😂
Thanks for this. I had not appreciated DW’s blocking expertise. Now I do! Cheers
Great film review!
I knew he was different when he was winning Reps vs Tj Watt in camp 🫡
He was also getting embarrassed by TJ in camp A LOT. Darnell said it himself. At his size you're going to win reps against anyone occasionally and he his a terrific blocker as a TE but elite edge guys would consistently dominate him. Darnell is such a beast, absolutely love watching this man play.
I love this guy. The two sports teams I support are the Steelers and the New Zealand All Blacks and Washington reminds me of Jonah Lomu. If you don’t know who he is there are plenty of highlight reels.
Weird. My two favourite teams too!
Here We Go!

Kind of reminds me of Eric Green. I was a wee lad when Green was there, so my memory might be a little spotty.
Give him time and he will be great... I wish we would run more plays for our tight ends
Darnell Washington coming out of the backfield would be UNSTOPPABLE
I saw Washington's size and drooled. He's an extra tackle on the strong side. A literal tank. Friermuth is the pass catching TE and does that well. Washington can go out 5-10 yards and is a decent pass catcher. Not fast at all. But so large that he might take 2 guys to tackle him.

Why the fuck Dallas drafted schoonmaker over this guy blows my mind.. I was mad draft day and still am.
Basically your owner sucks. He's too involved with day to day operations of the Cowboys. Here in Pittsburgh, we can go two years before Mr. Rooney says anything about his wishes for the team. He's a business man first and an awesome owner. 🥇
Jerry Jones, ever since firing Jimmy Johnson he can't get his shit together
Yup! Washington is going to be one of the best blocking tight ends ever!! Just wait and his receiving abilities will also develop. Then he will have the total package! Our Steelers are very lucky to have him on the team!
Darnell is a playa for sure
There is a rep against Matthew Judon from week 1 against Atlanta that you need to see. Like you said, he looks like an OT.
Wow Jaylen warren missed a massive gap on that toss play.
Darnell Washington has 11 catches on 12 targets. Get this guy the ball more! He has better hands than any other TE on the team.
I like to think of him as the next Eric Green!
NFL needs to add an option to watch games from this angle, the WHOLE game.
I'll take him as our modern day Matt Spaeth. The steelers have always drafted blocking te and nowadays its getting more difficult to find good ones. He also was a bulldog so comes from a winning program
Darnell is a TackleBack, a Tackle who can catch passes. Conner is a Full End, a Fullback who can block on the line. Muth is the only TightEnd.
I think he’s underutilized in the passing game. Good to see him getting some love though.
He’s similar to Picard on ravens
He’s gone get better at running routes too . He is hard to cover period cuz his fast and large . A person

Let up all the rewind button just a little bit. Let's go Steelers!!!
I remember when he pancaked Nick Bosa… so happy he is finally getting the ball. It feels unfair to basically have an extra lineman who can also catch a ball and truck and hurdle someone
put a 77 on him and we don't need a R tackle anymore.. multiple tackle eligible options for him
Washington is a great player for are team
Worthy of having a license plate that reads 6th offensive o lineman in college
put him in at LT and make him tackle eligible every play
The only ones that can stop DWash in the passing game is the Steelers, throw the man the ball
They ought to put him in some different offensive place. I'd like to see him as running back one time with third and three😂 or I would like to see a screen pass for him😂
Darnell Washington need to teach Broderick Jones how to block
😂
Washington is Ulta-Megatron
Washington is the size of a tackle - that’s why he’s a good blocker - dudes a truck!
He's a 6th linemen that they hit in the flat sometimes
Bout it really
I tell people Darnell is an old school tight end from the 1970s - 1990s like HOF player Dave Casper. Thats why they didnt use him at Georgia, they didnt know how to use him. So glad hes getting plays this season. Matt Canada was such a moron. TJ Watt is said to teach him how to block edge rushers.
They should use him more. Who wants to tackle somebody that doggone big bigger than the lineman😂😂
He is an athletic freak and could easily be a down field tight end if he didn't need to block so much. Another team will sign him away and his offense stats could explode
Nah probably not. He’s not really as agile as a good reciever would need to be and most offenses aren’t relying on chucking it up to someone.
IM GLAD SOMONE RECOGNIZE
Washington needs to teach his fellow bulldog Jones how to block better. Jones should be training and learning with Washington
Give 80 the ball no one wants hit by him

I think Darnell would be really good but he looks out of shape 😮
Head and eyes forward and helmet lower than that of the Defensive End establishing a foundation for the legs.... Then Darnell has outstanding "Wrestling" ability and upper body strength and length with a 34.5" reach... You just can't teach that...
Wish they moved on from friermuth this dudes a beast
Wow Jaylen warren missed a massive gap on that toss play.
