Young male character (always an everyman) is expected to be a certain thing but has a dream to be something else. He goes on a journey to fulfill that dream, making friends (and probably gaining a love interest) and surviving peril along the way. He saves the day and proves the doubters wrong. I think there's about 2,000 movies with this exact same plot. Sometimes it's done really well, but most times it's just godawful. Can we please retire this plot already?
