Enjoy Trinidad! The story about Port Royal is absolutely true. It got that name not because of its current inhabitants. It was because of all the pirates and thieves that once occupied that place. Bless up!
In the 17th century, Port Royal was the headquarters of the numerous swashbuckling scoundrels that plundered the high seas. Of the more famous pirates to be associated with Port Royal are Sir Henry Morgan, Calico Jack and Blackbeard Teach.
As Jamaica's economy grew and changed between 1655 and 1692, Port Royal grew faster than any town founded by the English in the New World, and it became the most economically important English port in the Americas.
Pirates of the Caribbean is based on Port Royal.
This may not sound so good but all of this corrupt lifestyle was sponsored by the then Colonizer Britain, Henry Morgan the chief Pirate was appointed Ambassador to Jamaica by the Queen of England.😳🇯🇲

Jamaica also has Carnival but Trinidad's Carnival is better. You should also attend Brazil's Carnival.
Trini & Brazil carnival are happening same time
That's because Jamaica doesn't have historical ties to Carnival. Also they gor Carnival in New Orleans and some of the Catholic Caribbean islands at the same time as Trinidad.
Jamaica carnival is a tourist grab...nothing more. No historical ties. I think they started in the 2000s

Arican Tigress ther are so many more Island you can visit ,Dominica is one of the hidden jems of the Caribbean ,it's unique ,there's nothing like it ,the culture is the strongest in the Caribbean ,it's not Dominican Republic its Dominica ,they have two groups of people ,the Caribs and Afro Caribbeans ,the caribs are like indians ,their culture is vibrant ,Dominica is unspoiled ,very natural ,it sits between two french islands ,Guadeloupe and Maritinque , it's a 45 minute plane ride from Barbados ,once you get there you could also take a short ferry ride to the french islands ,Dominica has sulfur springs ,a boiling lake ,a fresh water Lake ,many water falls ,a White River ,and beautiful black sand beaches,it's a hidden jem ,you should really visit

I don't know if it's still there, since it was 10 years ago... I found my favourite cologne, at a very good price, at the outdoor mall in Chaguanas. I also had a great dinner from the restaurant/takeout there. Because they were closing they gave a huge discount on the takeout food.
I was told they do that every night so nothing is left when they lock up.

Port Royal was the heaven for the Pirates and all that comes with them. Port Royal sunk when we had a huge earthquake back in 1800s. But there's a lot of history associated with Port Royal.

I know right. I get goose bumps just listening to the music. I was born there but left a very long time ago. I want my children to experience carnival, to know my side of their culture. We’ll get there.
I am glad you are going back for the carnival. Don't forget to go to the two Children's carnival parades, the live shows at the Savannah, the mas competitions before carnival Monday, all the live free music shows in the parks, e,g., Woodfford Square at lunchtime, and the Carnival Village. I hope you get to go to Panorama so you will see and hear what the world's best steelbands. It is going to two hectic carnival weeks. Just be careful with your cameras, etc., on the streets and in public places, because there will be thousands of visitors and locals there. Keep your belongings close to you this time. Be safe. Have fun if you are playing mas and I hope you go to at least one fete.
