As an unbeliveablely hard boxx user can't go wrong there. 20XX for everything. I own one that I wrote custom code for with the new pico board so I could play dark souls directly on my pc. They are so much fun.
2:58, I love how box controllers are so godlike that even if you aren’t concerned with getting the most shallow diagonal Firefox angle, they are still great. I started playing melee 8 months ago, and made the switch about a month and a half ago and it feels great. I used to claw my SHAC up airs as ICs while wavedash if and doing other things with a normal grip, and I didn’t want that to be and issue in the future since I changed between the two quite often. Love the content.
Definitely a guilty past time to collect weird controllers lately. I swear, sometimes I play and just want to hear the audible feedback from my levelerless controllers 😌
Hey nice video. I’m looking to build a custom smashbox-style ‘rectangle’ in the next few weeks, and I want to ask if you have any DIY communities to recommend. I want to get a lot of people’s advice and opinions on this sort of thing.
I've never gotten into the DIY side myself, I really wish I had covered that in the video though since a ton of people brought it up. I know there's some discord communities, but I'm not familiar with any specifics, sorry 😢
Fantastic video I love these types of controllers. I was able to get into the traditional fighting games because of used my keyboard as a hitbox. Thanks to it I was able to do dashes and moves consistently. I have a question though. How can I replicate a Boxx-style controller for platform fighters on my keyboard? I play Rivals and Brawlhala.
I can’t find a boxx what so ever honestly so I’ve just been playing threw the hand pain because I don’t wanna get rusty and I don’t got 200-300$ Canadian to spend on a boxx:/
It looks like he's sold out right now, but I got mine from ko-fi.com/ranalabs/shop. You may need to wait for a new drop. Make sure it's the normal version and not the tadpole, since that's a smaller novelty item
I would like it if I could use a keyboard the same way. But platform fighters don't seem to have ways to program the modifiers with a keyboard. I'd like the keyboard option mostly because I can't justify the price of leverless controllers. I know about the long-run argument, but that doesn't work for me because I don't buy controllers like that. I have my Switch Pro, PlayStation, and an 8-bit Do Ultimate. I still mostly use my keyboard for PC games. I'm just not willing to drop multiple hundreds of dollars for a single controller for a single genre of games. I play a lot of different video games, and these leverless controllers would seriously eat into my gaming budget, and it's only for 2 games. I'm mostly intrigued by the idea of leverless controllers for Smash Ultimate and now Rivals 2.
I know you can use a keyboard for Rivals (many top players play with one in fact), but I'm not sure of a way to make it work with ultimate. I feel like I've heard of an adapter you can buy to make it work on a switch, but I can't find it now.
Do you know if Rivals 2 will have full keyboard support? Or does it already maybe? One thing I was thinking about was a keyboard with some sort of programable feature so that I could create modifier keys. Or a program on your computer that can do it. A decent keyboard is a fraction of the price, and I'm thinking it could be just as good with a few custom keycaps. In fact, I have a 3d printer. What if I pulled off the keys I didn't need from a keyboard, and replaced the ones I would use with 3D-printed keycaps that were more ergonomic? @@atWisely
Good vid but i think at least a small mention of haxx for their effort on the early & many later designs of boxx for melee. Not sure a good segway so maybe im wrong. (They are on my mind a lot due to their shown effort on youtube with 1.03 & development / action towards so far so think a better direction for controllers for melee) Im a keyboard player though looking for boxx eventually for a rivals & traditional fighters
Man I love it when a controller that essentally macros perfectly precise analog inputs is compared to a controller that just, puts the buttons in a different place. (The idea that box controllers are remotely okay in a competitive setting is a brain virus that almost the entirety of the smash community has caught)

Yeah, when I said it saves you money, there's a huge asterisk of "unless you start collecting" LOL
Truly underrated
Watched this while fiddling with my custom rectangle. Lovely video!
Excellent video introducing this controller type. Good stuff my man.

ouch, the smashbox looks like hell

I know you're definitely able to, many top players use keyboard in both games. I've never set it up myself, but I'm sure there's guides out there!
@@atWisely thank you

Which boxxes do you recommend?
what if I want a circle?

This is actually my favorite controller that I own (and most comfortable)
hey Wisely, thanks for the video! Btw, where did you buy the rana digital?

I think it already does? But I didn't check myself
There's a HUGE DIY box/rectangle community, you could def put something together!
