First of all, thank you for for being foster parents. Those kids get so little stability and comfort in their lives, constantly being shifted place to place. Giving them a safe place even for a little while is so important. I guess I should talk about the vase, too 😁 I'm not a wood crafter but it's always fascinated me. I appreciate how you "read" the piece of wood before starting and point out the flaws and features, why you mount it in a given way, and what tools you're using and why. I admit, whenever you reach for any sort of coloring agent I go NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! because I like wood to be wood colored, but the ebonized finish with the silver wax came out quite well. Reminds me of owl feathers.
Thanks so much, fostering can be very hard work but it is always worth it. We have two sisters that have been with us for 5 years now and we are so proud of how far they have come 😀
Thanks Amanda, I have no problem with failing as I know that by doing so I will learn something, if you always bear that in mind then you are free to try new things with an open mind and just have fun 😀
When you start these experiments I am always worried that things will go awry. But then your logic hits and I begin to understand your journey. So, so inspiring. ❤
Comfort zones are where we rest between challenges. I like the elegant combination of the grain, the unusual color and the shape. And I particularly like the variability of your vases and bowls
Very nice vase and well done on achieving a new skill. I kind of liked the different directions of the carved strokes, it looked more organic and I loved the wavy lines top and bottom too. A beautiful design. I have two very large pieces of cherry slowly drying and I will certainly be looking into the ebonising fluid and the silver paste so thank you for always inspiring ideas and new directions in your content.
That ebonizing process is always so dramatic. tThis turned out great! I know I have strange taste, but I love wood items that are worm-eaten/ant-tracked. I saw a woodturner put blue (I think) resin together with a very eaten piece, and it turned out amazing. One of my fave pieces I've seen on youtube, although I can't find it now.
Now this one is Special ! YOU really put your own special touch on there, it looks so good. No one else will ever have one like this either. To me that really up's the value both personally & money wise. And the work you put into it.... Wow 😊
Very interesting project Mike. Love the carving. Not sure about the ebonized part though. All in all I do like it. Keep it up. Thank you for your videos and ideas.
What a stunning piece Mike! I tried this for the first time a few months back, with a mahogany finish for the main wood and a black/blue and white acrylic finish for the hand carve part.
Absolutely stunning mike have done something similar although on a smaller scale using a proxxon carver , after 50 years of turning have just discovered cherry can be ebonised never knew that thanks for that , again great work .
They do say 'The first cut is the deepest' 😅 Love the shape and the ebonizing looks good but the silver embellishment really made it stand out, even Gold or Bronze would l think do the same job. Great work Mike 👌
Hi Mike loved this one. I am really interested in your filming set up I was wondering could you do an overview video of your set up and how you integrate it so seamlessly.
Hello Mike! An incredibly beautiful vase, I must say.😘 I really like the slightly antique look of it. Just a small question to you...! What type (brand) of silver wax was it that you used on it? Thanks in advance.
Очень красиво получилось! Мне кажется, что угол атаки у резца для вырезания очень большой. Обычно угол острее. У меня отношение длины места заточки к толщине резца 3/1.

It's nice to watch you expand your resume and not be afraid to do so for us all to watch! Nice project!

Thank you Jayne, I really appreciate it 😀

Thanks so much! 😀
Incredible! I love how the ebonizing fluid changed the look entirely. Here's a smooch for Hooch 😘😘😘
Thanks Amie, the smooch will be passed on 😀

Thanks David, it's fun to try something new 😀
It's scary to go outside your comfort zone, but you did it well. And now you have a new skill.
Thanks Stan, it is but no matter if you succeed or fail you still learn 😀
Another stunning piece, Mike. Inspiration for us all!
Thank you so much Peter 😀

I loved your remark, you have a gouge shaped rubber (eraser) lol, but you did not need it. Absolutely unique and beautiful. Well done again Mike.
Thanks Ian, never be afraid to rub it out and start again lol 😀
I got in quick with my “Like” this time.
Haha thanks Neil 😀
That is gorgeous. I love working with Cherry but never thought of ebonizing it. Good job.
Thanks! It's the first one for me, done loads of oak but never cherry 😀
Nice work Mike! 👌
Thanks Steve 😀

Thanks Wayne 😀
I like that 👍.
Think I’ll have a go at something similar. Thanks for the inspiration 👍👍
You're welcome! Let me know how you get on 😀
Nice example of semi random chip carving.I should try that myself at some point!
You should, it's a lot of fun! 😀
It almost looks like stone after the ebonizing and silver, really cool.
Thanks! 😀
Very interesting project Mike. Love the carving. Not sure about the ebonized part though. All in all I do like it. Keep it up. Thank you for your videos and ideas.
You're welcome Paul 😀
Wow, I will check out those products.
Thanks Roger 😀
Very nice, Michael! You've got another winner there! I love the grooves. That's pretty groovy, man! LOL! I just had to say that.
Haha I know you did lol 😂
Beautiful 😁
Thank you Kathleen 😊
What a stunning piece Mike!
I tried this for the first time a few months back, with a mahogany finish for the main wood and a black/blue and white acrylic finish for the hand carve part.
Nice, I did think about using a colour in the grooves but decided against as I was using the ebonising fluid 😀
Absolutely stunning mike have done something similar although on a smaller scale using a proxxon carver , after 50 years of turning have just discovered cherry can be ebonised never knew that thanks for that , again great work .
You're welcome Robert, I've been looking at the proxxon tools, are they as good as they say they are?
Personally i think they are brilliant @MikeHolton
They do say 'The first cut is the deepest' 😅
Love the shape and the ebonizing looks good but the silver embellishment really made it stand out, even Gold or Bronze would l think do the same job. Great work Mike 👌
Thanks and you are right but I used gold the other week so thought I'd change it up a bit 😀
Hi Mike loved this one. I am really interested in your filming set up I was wondering could you do an overview video of your set up and how you integrate it so seamlessly.
Thanks, I will see what I can do 😀
🤠
😀
Well that’s interesting. Good effort. Looks like a stone flask that should be full of whisky. 👍
haha thanks Michael 😀
Hello Mike!
An incredibly beautiful vase, I must say.😘
I really like the slightly antique look of it.
Just a small question to you...!
What type (brand) of silver wax was it
that you used on it?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks Larson, it was a Hampshire Sheen wax 😀
Beautiful and so skillful! How long did it take you to complete the hand carving?
Thanks, it was about 30 minutes so not too bad 😀
Did you kiss the cherry's ring or something?
Haha 😀
Hi Mike. What type marker do you use. I need to get one. As usual love the video.
Thanks! They are just acrylic markers you can buy about 10 on Amazon for £7.99
I like it…enjoy watching you try new techniques.
Thanks Alicia, I love it too 😀
