    We take a look back to the Women's singles free program in Figure Skating at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville. Japanese figure skater Midori Ito, the hot favourite, only placed fourth in the short program when she fell on her triple Lutz jump. Her competitors Kristi Yamaguchi and Nancy Kerrigan completed their triple Lutz-double toe loop combinations and then placed first and second. In the free skating, Midori Ito failed her triple Axel but she did not give up and managed to land it successfully with a second attempt at the end of her program. Thereby, Ito became the first woman ever to land one at the Olympic Games. She won the silver medal for Japan, with Kristi Yamaguchi claiming Gold.

      yes it was impressive but we don t sum up a programm to a 3axel. she has no triple lutz. kristie had 2. ito had no 3.3. kristie had 3lutz 3TL. technicly and obviously artisticly kristie deserved better marks. 5.9 for ito was overated.

    How did the judges suddenly mark Midori's presentation .2 lower than her previous competitions all year? She had a fall but everyone fell. Midori was the only skater apart from 1 man to land a 3axel past the 3 minute mark. My opinion but she deserved 1st in the long. She landed 5 different triples as opposed to 3 different toe jumps from Kristi.

    wow it is insane how jumping and spinning techniques seem to have deteriorated over time back in 92 skaters where carring so much more speed across the ice, spinning faster, jumping higher and traveling more throughout the jumps, nowadays some skaters spin so slow that it seems like they are not gonna complete all the turns, and jumps look so low and under rotate and some are so locked and sketchy that look almost stationary.

    • @alexsdb9712
      @alexsdb9712 3 роки тому +6

      The extreme telegraphring of Bonaly when going into jumps was also a huge minus. Tonya could have won bronze, but remember that she was heading into the free skate in sixth place. I watched this competition and Olympics live on television back in 92, and I still feel that Midori won the free skate. I always agreed that Yamaguchi was the gold medal winner, but Midori winning the free.

    • @tumicduguar2583
      @tumicduguar2583 3 роки тому +1

      @@alexsdb9712 Tonya would have had to have beaten Nancy by 2 spots in the free to win the gold, the same way Midori would have had to have beaten Kristi by 2 spots in the free to win the gold. Since neither Nancy or Tonya skated well enough to beat Kristi in the free even with her mistakes, that meant MIdori could not win. Whether Tonya could realistically beat Nancy by 2 spots in the free is another story. I think Lu Chen should have beaten both in the free personalyl, and Surya deserved to be behind both, so I am not sure who that would be. Karen Preston maybe? I do think Tonya definitely should have beaten Nancy in the free, even though she didn't with the judges, but I am not sure if someone should have finished between them to let Tonya catch Nancy for the bronze. Karen Preston if there is anyone though.

      That's why it's been long said that the sport changed so much in the period of 1988 to 1992, perhaps the biggest change in the sport's history. It's a key period in the sport. And also why it's said by many that it's the reason why Katarina Witt got out of there quickly and turned professional, because she knew she couldn't match or keep up with the level (even in 88) and that relying on judges special help wouldn't work or hold up anymore if she continued to compete after '88.

    Midori Ito was the clear winner of the long program. She still would have been relegated to a silver medal because of the ordinals system. Why were the judges so blinded to Kristi Yamaguchi's solid, but far from captivating skating? Gifting Kristi Yamaguchi 5.9s and 5.8s for her passionless rendition to glorious Spanish melodies is laughable and speaks volumes of the questionable judging.

      演技と振り返りスローモーションの後 2:33:25 辺りからありますよ。嬉しそうな笑顔が素敵です。
      最後の映像はおまけという感じでしょうか

    What a pity about Surya, she used to be my favorite one. Kerrigan had always been too rigid and without smile, a real cold queen. Tonya Harding, on the other side, too circus.

    I can’t describe how much I hate Nancy Kerrigan’s program. She tried so hard to bring something that she thought would be epic and profound but all I can see are lame, totally irrelevant pieces of soundtrack from some US popcorn movie.
    Her style (if she has one) is just like US culture nowadays - superficial, frivolous, but somehow capable of brainwashing so many people.

      Your comment is harsh, but the part about " irrelevant " skating is so true.
      As pretty as she looks, there is no flow.

      А теперь еще смеют Этери поливать! Да ее девочки своими победами осчастливили бОльшую часть населения РФ!!!! Устали трястись и краснеть за своих спортсменок, годами не выигрывавших ничего или с каким-то спорными унизительными натяжками! А сейчас такие девочки, что можно только спорить какая лучше! Этери и команда, низкий поклон! А также спасибо Сергею Давыдову, Инне Гончаренко и Светлане Пановой!
