@susan ivy I don’t see the caring from Todt at all. Where do you? Do you believe it’s authentic? (PS. I saw the interrogation too, so it sounds like we both know he’s a liar and only cares about himself and his future).
I see a man who thinks he’s a victim and loves to yap about his experience endlessly. Despite being told repeatedly to shorten his responses, even by his own counsel, he continues… because that’s how important he thinks he is, that’s how much he loves to hear himself talk, so he chooses to not respect the court process. He acts like a bratty child when prosecutors do their job to stop his off topic monologues. I don’t see a caring man. I see anger and resentment from a know-it-all who didn’t do a dang thing when he supposedly found his children dead!! Who didn’t do a thing when his wife supposedly killed herself. But yelled? What a joke. No love. No care. And also a difficult personality from the stand. He actually thinks he’s a victim.

@susan ivy Sorry, but I totally disagree.
He’s trying to manipulate, and run -his- the show.
His demeanor changes when he doesn’t get his way. His tone is often aggressive. Leans forward and points at the prosecutor. Swinging on his chair, gesticulating excessively, snapping back at the prosecutor. Repeating questions is a tactic people use to stall for a second while they think. (need time? Just pause, then answer).
I’m no expert, but my opinion is that his body language isn’t that of a caring, loving person.
Eye rolling, combative replies, and being snarky are the last things someone should be doing while on the stand.
He’s in court, acting as if he’s having an argument with someone in his private home.

So he has to take the stand and provide some explanation as to why he said that. He can't just remain silent after having said he did it. Can’t believe him, this man might do the quivering voice and the sad face but not one tear rolls down his face. When asked a question from the prosecutor he repeats it to bide time for another pathetic answer. The “fatherly” thing to do was not to kill your wife and children. It amazes me when he’s on a role with his story and he’s crying as soon as the prosecutor intervenes the “crying” stops and he gives her a right dirty look.

He hardly answers the questions he's being asked by his attorney and instead goes on to give long winded explanations full of unneccessary details that tend toward showing what a good and caring guy he is. If you watch his interrogation shortly after the murders have taken place, he talks about it like it's just another day of the week and that it's perfectly reasonable to kill your family and the poor family dog too, because they "discussed it" and his kids didn't want to live without mommy or daddy. It's revolting.

This is my first time watching this testimony. You couldn't possibly be more correct. The difference was pronounced and instantaneous. It's like a switch was flipped. I don't think he did himself any favors with his hostile and aggressive demeanor towards the prosecution. It also seems to me that he wasn't sufficiently coached by his attorneys on how to behave under cross. Perhaps they, too, were painfully aware of his guilt and what he had done, and so didn't feel particularly motivated to help him out in this regard.

Also, I kept asking myself while watching his antics, "Does he not realize that the jury can still hear him even when he's facing away from them??" It was SO weird! Like, did he somehow think the jury wouldn't notice his entire attitude shift to rude and hostile, just because he wasn't looking at them? The whole spectacle was very creepy and odd to watch, for sure.

Although, based on what I've seen of this guy, he seems arrogant enough to possibly think that he knows better than any lawyer, and I could totally see him ignoring his lawyer's coaching because he thinks he's just so brilliant and charismatic that the jury will love him.

He does HORRIBLE during the cross examination, it's like I can feel his contempt through the screen, unbelievable lack of self awareness on this man.

Especially the part about his wife stabbing herself. He only mentions a sound, nothing about her screaming out in pain from stabbing herself. AND he weighed at least 200 pounds more than her so how could he not stop her from killing herself in his presences. He's a complete fool for believing anyone would believe him.

55:49 He catches himself here. The condescension in his voice sounds like he was about to call the prosecutor "Sweetheart."
