as an epidemiologist and agriculture engineer, i think that the relationship between food and human health begins with the quality of our soils. Soils that are rich in all main groups of microorganisms in the right ratios (fungi, bacteria, nematodes, protozoae, etc..) produce crops that are richer in nutrients compared to food grown on soil on which chemical products were used. One simple indicator is the brix index of foods that is significantly different in foods grown on microorganisms rich soils vs food from conventional agriculture that uses pesticides, and chemicals. the same goes for mineral and vitamins concentration in food. Public health begins with soil health. Keep up the good work

Another thing that is helping the body a lot : intermittent fasting.
I'm doing at least a 16:8 and not only am I losing weight but I'm not putting my body onto too much stress of not having enough to eat since when it's time to eat I don't refrain myself. I've always struggled to keep those pounds away after getting where I wanted but now I feel it's getting me somewhere else.
I heard a lot about food over the last year that, even if I'm not a specialist, I think I kinda understood that it's an inflammation problem that we're all facing before anything else.
Without getting too much in details...
-Cholesterol is now good for us.
    -Grounding helps our cells
-Why margarine (human-made and one molecule away from plastic) take butter instead.
    - All processed food and sugar.
That's where I am at the moment in my life.

I developed heart failure during my pregnancy at 31. That was 15 years ago now and I was doing OK until my husband passed away in 2018. His death caused my health to tank to the point of nearly dying.
I decided that I refuse to die without a fight! I’ve lost 80 lbs and eat mostly healthy fats, protein and low carb vegetables. Most health issues have cleared up, except I keep getting fluid in my lungs without significant edema elsewhere and no one can figure out why. I can only eat 500mg of sodium, sometimes less a day, and I can’t have much fluid.
I exercise, eat healthy, have lost a lot of the weight I need to lose, and I’m still suffocating at times. It’s terrifying and exhausting living like this, having no answers. Though doctors like you help people like me keep fighting, so, thank you! ❤

Control the controllables, i.e. the air you breathe, the water and food you eat. Emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing are equally important and to large extent can be controlled as well through healthy life choices and sometimes unlearning/ reconditioning unhealthy behaviour and thought patterns. There is positive bidirectional feedback from first three to the second and back also.

Very simple guidelines: eliminate the 13 bad foods and cooking practices and ensure that you consume the 200+ essential nutrients. Unfortunately there are many allopath medical born and manipulated terms that also need to be wary of including disease, supplements, food, health healthier healthy. First the body is not diseased, disease is only a legal term that entitles a doctor to treat a symptom. Health is the explicit domain of the body, the medical normalized theory was developed to manipulate the body and conscious mind for profit not for assisting the body to self maintain, protect and optimize the millions of functions and biochemical reactions which occur every day. Food is not only positioned it is nutrient absent as is every culture invented diet. Most chronic illnesses and birth defects including sexual abnormality on the other hand have been clinically identified and solved as a nutrient deficiency and or toxicity. Hopefully the reclaiming of genuine health will begin this November.

This was a great message. I think a lot of us are waking up to the idea that we have the power to control a lot of these issues. My husband at 53 by labs/physique/diet is healthy however genetics spoke a different message. Like you, discovered blockages but in his case needed bypass surgery. Former Marine, excellent swimmer, surfer and soccer player, this news hit us like a ton of bricks. Diet has been in my cross hairs for a number of years now so even that was being challenged. I really appreciate hearing your thoughts on functional medicine. Having just gone through this ordeal with him, it was only his thoracic surgeon who emphasized diet post op and was persistent about it. Very insightful! My dad died at 45 years of a massive heart attack. Arteries 95% clogged. Was a huge smoker, ate lots of fast food and was raised on very high amounts of refined carbs (Italian) and due to the age it happened I’ve always been very sketched about it being a genetic thing or just simply nutrition, esp being 32 myself.
I eat whole foods and have for the last 14 years (exception of whey proteins and the occasional cheat) but the biggest speculation I’ve found is, is fat of the saturated or high cholesterol variety (pasture raised eggs) really the reason for arterial calcification or is it the high carb intake and constant insulin spikes that gear you for calcification? Had my blood work done 5 months ago and came back with a 10 year cardiac risk (was eating 3 egg per day) since then I’ve dropped it to 1 and will get testing within the next weeks. But that topic really has me confused. Different per genetics?

I have permanently cut out alcohol, working on extra sugars. Started taking iron/vitc/b12 (was low in iron/b12) and magnesium at night. Plus doing at least 10000 steps a day. I feel amazing. Amazing. I’ll be 40 in a couple of months and have 3 little girls to keep up with! Thank you for all of your videos and advice! Love following you!
Ps I always wanted to be a heart surgeon 😆 but college Chem got me.

it's odd that doctor's aren't taught enough about psychology and human (all animals, really) behavior, addiction, dopamine 75% of the GPs who told me to eat less and exercise more were overweight themselves. I wanted to say "you first" but I needed them to not be hostile towards me as I was held captive by the services I could only get through them I had one young, slender doctor say "but you feel better when you eat better, you feel better when you exercise. If that were true, you wouldn't have to nag people. I hated the walk to and from school and work. It was awful. No, eating lean chicken and fish didn't make me feel better than when I ate tacos and yes, I did it daily for over a month and walked just for excise purposes for 6 months

Will you please do videos of you making meals and other stuff that you eat me alive. I'm very interested in seeing what the heart surgeon eats on a daily basis. Besides what you posted already I'd like to see more videos and I would imagine others went to of your diet the rest of the stuff you eat. And I would like to try the plant-based stuff too I know more about it. I've been eating salads a couple times a day maybe a bagel with light cream cheese some grapes some watermelon. Pulled chicken baked chicken.. no pizza no fries. Is salt added to anything. Or microwave stuff

Great content, Jeremy. Thank you for sharing this with us. So many doctors are more interested in pushing pills for certain medical conditions - and keeping us on them for life - than educating us in how to change our lifestyle for a cure.

As I mentioned in the video it took me 10 years of practice for me to come to this realization. Unfortunately this isn't a main focus in medical school or in training. Doctors like Dr. Mary Hyman and Dr. Casey Means are doing a great job of shining light on this issue. Thank you for your comment!

So if Americans would just increase healthy organic fruits and veggies or fish to 50% of their diet then they would reduce their risk by 30 to 40% eat bad on weekend, and exercise and eat good monday thru thursday. but I can assure you there is NO WAY Americans are going to all suddenly start eating right 100% of the time. Not with Fast Food places on every street.

    • @FlowerPower-r8h

Glad some surgeons are wakening up to truth and away from the medical fatalistic curriculum that teaches dependence of the patient on palliative medication and lack of personal accountability for their health. Also it’s a shame how the medical curriculum picks and choose from the treasure of science to create a practice of medicine that is about maintaining the status quo of things and support the nih big farm fda train leading the nation towards the catastrophic sad situation of health index we currently observe. As a professor I’m trying to do my part talking to students and sharing about my research in thermal medicine and lifestyle medicine. Functional medicine has moved things to s better place but still very contaminated by the pill paradigm. Additionally most immune diseases and mental health ones are caused or perpetuated by the mind and emotions and area that medicine has divorced itself from too.
Keep your videos going doc. Many colleagues and future clinicians will get the message

I am going to see the dietician in a few days for a serious discussion ways to create a diet that is sugar free. On the whole though, will doctors ever be able to treat high LDL cholesterol with wholeistic medicine?
