Nice to see a sketchbook from someone just getting back into watercolor. Thanks for sharing the journey. A nice study in "studies". This should be valuable for anyone wanting to know how to start and progress on their watercolor journey.
The Mind of Watercolor thanks for the kind words, much appreciated. I took your advice recently and ordered some small sketchbooks from eBay, 100% cotton paper. Trying those out now on a trip :)
Funny, I was going to suggest trying better paper, watercolor is hard enough, no sense handy capping yourself. In fact, in my opinion, the paper is the most important thing to spend money on, no matter how good you are, if you use crappy paper, your work will always suffer.
Loved this vid and your positive non critical view of your work! You can see the joy you had progressing through each work and your desire to learn and grow rather than stringently critique your work was inspiring i am even more encouraged thank you! My husband just took a watercolor pencil class with me on vaca last week and won’t stop watercoloring now lol i can’t wait for him to see your vid!
hey bro Im a painter too and im color blind people always make fun of me for painting while im color blind and the fact that Im aware of it is discouraging me even tho I think i can see colors and I hve not issue
Loved this and loved how you developed and made observations about what worked or didn't and tried to incorporate into your next painting. Thank you for sharing.
I love the way you simplify these sketches. Its so interesting to see an oil painter's ways to paint watercolor. really nice. hope you do more of these sketches to share with us
Enjoyed your video and it brought home the point that artist needs to explore the various effects of any given media. Lovely work. Thanks for the video.
Good video. Its so funny i can see that you started out trying to use watercolor like oils and the last one showed the most watercolor technique. I did the same thing when i started watercolors. Your next watercolor sketchbook will be even more grand
Love your channel, your calm humble demeanor makes the videos very watchable, not to mention the great art you create. Also your audio or maybe its your voice is at a great level and very listenable too.
Just want to say something nice... What lovely effects you kept getting, especially working in the environment but what beautiful inspirations. You have inspired me to do much of the same so thanks for showing us your outcome... What truly beautiful work and fabulous use of watercolors! Thanks!
Seeing your progress through the oages very inspiring and motivational! I'm a couple of pages away from finishing my sketchbook and totally agree, once I grab the brush I can't stop 😂
The last one before the Alaskan trip is the dopest for me. Your demeanor and voice are perfect for instructional painting videos, and i really enjoy them. Thanks for the dope content.
Great Job Brandon! Like you, I come from the oil painting side and am working to figure out watercolor. It's been a great learning experience to work in the opposite direction... light to dark. I think any medium you work in, can't help but make you better, especially if you can do it everyday!
i really liked this!!! thank you for sharing your progress of getting back into watercolor. makes me want to start trying some landscapes with my watercolors...
Thank you, he's a big influence of mine, but honestly I didn't even think about him at all during any of these so that's funny that you say that! His influence has stuck with me.
Hey where did all your watercolor videos go? I loved watching them and today I wanted to watch a few before trying out my first watercolor set. Anyways, I love your content and hope to see some new watercolor stuff !
great video. Love how you formatted your watercolors. I can buy it off the shelf! And love your critiques of your own works and how you went around to improve them.
Fun to switch back forth from oils to watercolor, huh! I've been working on watercolor too, after painting in acrylics for years. Nice thing about acrylics is, that I can paint in oils style, or watercolor style. But I love what watercolor paint does! :}
Very nice work, and thanks for sharing sketchbook. I'm very beginer in watercolor and at times afraid of creating live sketches and end up creating it from photograph. This video helped a lot, will start my sketchbook for live sketches soon :)
Subscribed and liked (very much). Great to see your development. I love watercolour but I haven't done enough to get good. In my hobby art class we use acryllic which is hard to get used to. But I am getting there. I think you are right it is easy to have a water colour box and a pad handy with a jar and get cracking. I have just bought a set of brushes with the water (or ink) reservoir in the handle so I wouldn't even need a jar.:-) Perfect. I will get busy. Thanks for inspiration.
Yes but it can be watered down a bit like water colour when applying though it loses its essential texture when you do that. But ok for a bland background. Just completed my second portrait in acrylic this week! Vincent self portrait, the previous one being a Lucien Freud self portrait.. I take forever though!
Very nice sketch book , thanks for sharing , I like your first sketches the best in a lot of ways , maybe cause I am a loose kinda gal lol Do you use any water color pencils in your sketchbook ? Very neat , how do you keep the edges of the images so clean , tape ? Winks Lisa
Where in Alaska were you? I was in the middle of the aleutian chain in false pass and got some great photos of mountains i was going to use for my paintings too! Looks great!
Your artwork is out of this world! I simply smile at each of your paintings. You did great with you first painting with water colour. I need some tips since, I myself is starting to learn water colour. Any tips? 😊
Thanks for the kind words. I would say to try to plan it out before you start painting and just keep practicing 😊 figure out the technical aspects, paint and paper and how they react and then have fun!
No. On this, my young artist friend, I must disagree. Into The Wild was a great movie. It was a, seriously, horrific story. I'll never watch it again. I love A Look Through Your First Watercolor Sketchbook. Thanks for sharing. Perhaps I'll try watercoloring-someday. Not today. :-) @@SchaeferArt
Very nice! I really enjoyed looking at these and hearing your comments. I think it is a very nice sketch book and you should feel very good about it. I hope you share the oil paintings when you have finished them. I had a few favorites and one was one your Esther Passage paintings. I feel inspired to go work on art now!

Pharoah just do what you do man, it’s what makes you unique and you!
You might well develop a unique style that people will clamour for.
Pharoah. Monochrome and black-white are perfectly viable. Maybe check out say... Agnes Martin for consideration. There are options.
Be like Bone thrower he gets paid for real, and totally color blind
What kind of cruel people would make fun of you? I think it sound very unique and interesting

Haha thank you very much :)
These studies are great. I love how you capture air and light with just a few washes and strokes. Good lesson to learn for me.
orkid box thank you, I do my best to capture that stuff. It’s mostly values and getting those correct.
I loved viewing! I definitely have a few faves! Always happy to see what's next too!
Joyce Gilley thank you, more to come :)

Cristina Danois thank you much appreciated!
Great pieces Brandon. A bit of Edgar Payne and almost in them. You have made WC look so easy. Of course it is more unforgiving than that as a medium.
Thank you, he's a big influence of mine, but honestly I didn't even think about him at all during any of these so that's funny that you say that! His influence has stuck with me.
Hey where did all your watercolor videos go? I loved watching them and today I wanted to watch a few before trying out my first watercolor set. Anyways, I love your content and hope to see some new watercolor stuff !

vidhi shah it’s definitely an intimidating task but you’ll get better. Just takes time and practice.

Sounds awesome, hope it goes well! Acrylic is quite challenging with the quick drying paints. But still can be fun too.

Lisa Lovely LPA thank you very much Lisa :) I have never tried watercolor pencils. And yes I use masking tape to keep the edges clean.
