Hello! It is another stage of my sliding dovetail planes project. The planes will work in pairs - left plane and right plane for booth directions of cutting. If you didn't seen first part of the video just check it :) Every step is decsribed on the timeline so you can easly read what i'm doing in any moment of the video. I hope you will like it! Regards!
the amount of love, passion, dedication and craftsmanship is evident in every beautiful tool you make...in every pull of the file or push of the plane, is a testament to your skill so that every chip of wood that falls away can rest peacefully in assurance that its legacy will be one of a functional and lasting quality only found in the works of masters and heirloom treasures!! these trees have been vindicated! bravo good sir, and God bless!
Thanks Tim :) in this project my chamfer plane couldn't been used properly because the sides of the blank were too narrow. That's why i finished the chamfers with my block plane and no 4. Regards!
Great woodworker! Awesome job! You sign your name in the wall of the Great Artisans of our time. The importance of this technics and of this way of work are bigger! Thanks man!
When you need to mark your irons to find high spots in your pockets, try a little laboratory alcohol lamp instead of markers. The soot from the flame quickly marks your iron and the soot transfers to the wood easily. Markers are ok but as your video showed, they don't always mark your part so well. Love your work, the quality and craftsmanship is superb.
When I see all the tools you use to produce other tools it reminds me of pictures from M.C.Escher. When I think I found a path it is only a new mystery. Impressing skills and knowledge.
Beautiful work as always. I love how you used the little infil plane and the smoothing plane in tandem 'just because'. I can't think of any reason why you would need to do that other than the joy of doing so! 😄
Hi there. Thank you, and again thank you. Your work is just from another time and so amazingly precise and humble. Bravo and again thank you for sharing your skills/passion.
Jak zwykle perfekcyjnie. Ostatnio kątnik od Ciebie miał zaszczyt popracować przy renowacji przedwojennego zegara... O lepszym nawet nie marzyłem! Pozdro :)
Another excellent video from, Gakos. Is the day just shine again? I really love this video, Gakos! It also reminds me that I should make floats, it makes plane making just a little easier. Another interesting part os this video is that you only use plane and tools you make. That's really nice to see and, I imagine, to use!
Your collection of planes are incredible, you definitely have great skill... I attempted to make a set of tongue and groove planes, which need to be exact between the irons, the plane groives, and to each other....but apparently accuracy was MIA in my shop at that point.... They work, kinda, but not with each other.... So im blown away with your ability
I’m curious about your floats. What kind of steel did you use and do you heat treat them? Your videos are a real treasure, thanks so much for sharing!!
if you can get them from lie-nielsen then do it. 100$ will get you the 3 of the most commonly used ones. Making them is super time consuming. Any good tool steel works well and heat treatment and tempering are highly recommended or you will be sharpening after every use.
Hello Harry! Thanks. My edge floats were cutted by laser cnc from c45 steel, than profesionally hardened and tempered to 40-45 hrc. My cheeck float is made from the same steel but i skip hardening - i make sharpening at the same time as edge floats. Regards!

@@StavrosGakos awesome man ! Thanks for the idea I might ask someone to laser cut some for me in the future. I have started building handplane recently and your video help A LOT really appreciate your effort!
I would love to watch a video where you explain the principles to build a hand plane. I saw most of yours videos and I still haven't shure what is essential and what is stetic, for example the shape of the hole, with that curve close to the blade. Is that functional or not? Thank you for sharing.
Stavros, when you make a dovetail plane does your plane cut with the leading edge of the iron (like a rabate plane) or do you have it cut with the following edge? Thank you Jerry
@@StavrosGakos It appears in your videos that your planes cut with the "following edge." Is there a reason vs leading edge. The nicker shouldn't matter, I believe.
Stavros, ignore this comment. I just watched your Workbench improvement video and see that your DT planes cut with the leading edge. Thank you for your comments
Stavros, I am going through your videos for the 4th time, and love them all. I have a question, where are the videos of the saw type files that you have. I would like to make my own. Can you help? Thanks Charlie
Beautiful pieces, as usual! Can I ask you about the products you use on finishing? Specially about the orange one. I'm looking for some natural or homemade finishing products and I liked this one that you use, surely we'll see it in the third video!
Another question: What is the purpose of the 20 ° bottom bevel next to the blade? I see that bezel in all the old ones and in the current ones, I have only seen a current manufacturer that has omitted that bezel in the large sized planes (hollow & round). Very grateful for your responses.
@@StavrosGakos ua-cam.com/video/-ee50RGrpl4/v-deo.html It is the bevel that you slide on the horizontal surface. This intrigues me a lot because most of the hollow & round planes that I see on Ebay all have that bezel, and most manufacturers, like yourself, still do with the bezel. But I've only seen one current manufacturer that doesn't make them with that bezel. So the question is whether it is something that is done without knowing the initial purpose from the first manufacturer, or it clearly has an intention very well known by expert carpenters, which I do not know for now.
Dear Stavros, I want to know how can I determinate the blade angle or griding angle in base of plane bed angle. Could you teach me? I have a lot of old Peugeot wood plane and the blades were sharpened in unknowing angles, and I wish restoring the right angles. Thanks in advance. Best regards. No music or fancy graphics, not a word spoken... just excellent work that speaks for itself.
Like Charlie Chaplin, no words needed... Music is the hiss of the plane blades cutting with precision, with some percussion coming from the mallet! ;)
