  • There are so many electric piano options on the Akai MPC Key 61! From Rhodes to Wurli's the electric piano sounds are endless. In this video I give an overview of the Stage EP instrument on the MPC Key 61and talk through the different sounds and ways you can customize the sounds with the edit instrument panel. Per usual I can't wait to compare these sounds to the Nord Stage 3 and other virtual electric pianos that I have to see how they stack up. Stay tuned for those videos!
What do you think of the electric piano sounds? Do they hold their own against the competition?

Very nicely done. You have just the right touch and personality to show how these modern sounds can be applied, so thank you. There is one area I would like to see explored in a video, how multiple tracks, say a 4 bar track as you made above, can be strung together into a much longer piece, and how automation can be used to alter the track as it records to give it a song feel, taking out instruments, putting them back in, adding overdubs in places, etc., and all the things that would be done in a real song... Does this seem doable?

At least for overdub recording and automation I found out, it's stunning easy. When the right upper button is lit red, you automatically record automation when changing parameters during playback. You don't have to press record before. On the other hand, if playback has already started you can press the overdub rec button at any time to just add further notes. Never explored something similar efficient before.

Can you please do a video on programing for live usage, and how you'd set up programs and change between them, and adding an expression pedal for volume for say strings, but not on the piano?

Trying to workout whether to get the stage piano and stage electric piano or fabric XL. Need to get a good idea of what the electric piano is like in Fabric XL. I love electric piano and this sounds pretty good.

Do you still have your MPC Keys? And how would you rate it next to the Roland Fantom??

Great video, im thinking of selling my stage 3 since i got the key61. I would very much appreciate if you could share your thoughts on how the 2 boards could perhaps compliment each other in the upcoming comparison video 🙏 im thinking maybe controlling the stage 3 through the key61 and sampling sounds from the nord then composing in the akai. The key61 is such a workhorse 💯

Make sure you get a 1TB SSD for storage. I’m happy with mine.

Nice overview. Is it possible to connect an external fully weighted 8-key midi keyboard to the MPC Key 61 and play all those sounds from that keyboard?

How does the touchscreen feel? Is it solid or does it have a little flex when you press with your finger (ala MODX, etc.)?

I feels solid. I haven’t noticed any flexing.

Can someone kindly tell me where to find on my key 61 how to get the sounds that are produced by artist "Kalax" or "Timecop 83" I find simular but not close enough. I'm pretty new at this being my first keyboard ,and wish I had somewhere to go for one on one training, however if come really far on my own with help from YOU DOUG, and others on UA-cam. Love this keyboard! Can you produce a demo piece on your channel. Thanks!

Hi, are those presented sounds exist already out of the box ? I mean what we can see on the first screen like fabric XL etc, is it the pack of sounds coming with the price for key 61 ? Thank you in advance.
