Way to go! I was almost in the exact same situation a year ago: never good cardio, ran 5k less than 5 times in my life, same age, decided to do a half marathon with a goal of under 2 hours! But I had 2 months to train! That’s a huge accomplishment and congrats!!
PS: this is just the beginning! I now run pretty regularly, really enjoy trail runs for the scenery and will decide to run 10k on a whim without much thought. I would’ve never thought that I could do that.

Way to go! Excellent run and ambition! As a 40yo, I was in the same shoes and can totally relate to wanting to be fit at 40 and choosing endurance running as a way to keep healthy for my two younger boys (3 full marathons now in the past 14 months) and have the drive and energy to show them the world like I did with my older teenage kids when they were younger. Starts with the half, and now I bet you’re looking at the full - you can do it! Keep the momentum from this effort, most full marathoners train to 19 or 21 miles. Keep going, you won’t regret it! It’s only a couple more miles 😀 Great video btw

Congrats!! Very very happy for everyone who did this 🎉❤ Just one comment for anyone else watching this video for whom this may be helpful: For beginner runners, running any goal distance should not be hard!! If it feels hard, you’ve done too much too soon, which is a really really really common mistake. It can very quickly lead to injuries, and burnout and hating running, and it just goes against focusing on enjoying the process. I’m so glad nobody got injured in this video, thank god. Also, it’s very ambitious to pick both a new distance and a new time when you don’t even know your own average. A time goal is sort of meaningless unless you know what you normally do it in, and are trying to improve on your time, because time varies sooooooo much even by something as simple as stride length. For example Louis is of course very tall. And the best running goals pick either distance or speed to focus on, both for any single run and for overall goal setting. This is because its just less effective over time and too taxing to both increase distance and increase speed. My final comment - don’t be afraid to go slow, there’s nothing wrong with taking an extra three weeks to do something properly and give your body the time it needs to make the adaptations required. That’s how you get healthy and fit and increase your health span. And it’s always worth doing at any point, no matter your age. You can always always push your body to do something like run a half marathon in the short term, but that’s not the same thing as having a really really strong aerobic base. All those miles should be easy easy easy!!! Sooooo easy. Anything that doesn’t feel easy, like a super easy conversational pace, is too hard. Anytime your joints hurt, they haven’t built the adaptations yet and it’s too much too soon. Any muscular injuries means it’s either too much too soon or not good recovery. If you feel like you’re running out of energy, you’re running too fast.

Well done! Not easy to go sub-2hrs on your first try! BTW, when running a HALF marathon, you usually don't need food/nutrition, but for the FULL marathon, when you run that, make sure to get about 800 calories down on your way around or you'll hit the wall. Good luck!
