    I just got a huge rhizome from such a pretty huge bromeliad. I hope just sticking it in nice soil will make it grow. Im in the lower Keys and I hope it takes bc then I have a bunch of deer proof plants 😅 key deer are my nemesis and all my plants and orchids r in a very large dog kennel or in my house or hung up high. I need more ideas for deer resistant tropical plants😅 thank you and Idk if u remember me I won the ticket to the orchid show up by you 2-4 years ago but couldn't make it, and made sure the next person got it and went. I love your channel and have been following on Tiktoc 💚🍃🌿🥰

    Thank you for sharing this technique. I will do this with my broms. I have two mother plants with one pup each. The pups might be ready for separation in two weeks.

      HA HA HA!!! IT SOUNDED LIKE A WORD TO ME! ...It's what I call a "Mariaism"! LOL! I think it is a wonderful idea too! I am one that believes that NOTHING should go to waste especially when it comes to our beloved green pets! Thanks for watching and sharing your feedback! HAPPY GROWING DEAR FRIEND! :)

      P.S. I looked it up and guess what! Not only is rhizomatic a Mariaism...but it is an actual word meaning "of or related to rhizomes, so even when I think I'm wrong...I'm right...HA HA HA HA!

    Please tell us what you use to sterilize it? Please provide a link for the other video you mentioned about poting bromeliads. Do you have a video on what soil you use? I use the Orchid mix but it seems awfully dry.

      I use peroxide to do most of my disinfecting but if I need stronger stuff, I will use Physan 20 which can be purchased online. I got mine off of eBay. I have several videos on bromeliads and have a playlist under tropical plants I believe that show them all. For the majority of my bromeliads, I use regular potting soil mixed in with orchid bark, coal and perlite. I do have some wire baskets though that I simply added some sphagnum moss in the basket. I also have mounted a lot of them into my tree as well. I grow all of mine outdoors so I am able to grow my bromeliads in different ways. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING!

      It was quite an amazing discovery for me! No one ever talks about it...so I wasn't sure if it could be done. I am glad I am a curious cat because I wouldn't have ever known if I weren't. Contrary to my husband believes....sometimes it is good to be nosey!!! LOL!!!

    When you say disinfect, how do you do that to the plant exactly? Dip it in alcohol??

    Thank you so much for this video. I am going to try it. I have a lot of Bromeliads and live in North East Tennessee. I know crazy right? Trying to grow tropicals so far north! Anyway, moving them in and out according to the weather gives me exercise.😊

    Can Coco peat also be used instead of spagnum moss? And is this procedure applicable to ANY variety of bromeliads?

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  4 роки тому +1

      I have never tried it but I am sure it can. I do believe that this will work for any variety of bromeliad. The sphagnum moss is a great form of media that if contained holds good moisture and humidity.

    Rhizomes are stems, not roots.
