Hi Matt, on the strength of your video on SUV's to buy, i traded in my Hyundai Getz 1.4 for the 2010 Kia Sorento 2.2 CRDi. It's a fantastic car with above average kit (for the year) and great handling. What really blew me away was the unexpected turn of speed i got from the turbocharged 2.2! I gave a few hot hatches a run for their money over 30 meters!🤣🤣. Really enjoy your channel here in South Africa
Saw a slightly newer one in Sainsburys car park earlier - caught it from the corner of my eye and thought - thats big and looks nice...wow its a KIA. In a gun metal colour it looked like if you parked it on your drive the neighbours would think you were doing OK. My brother-in-law has a 14 year old CRV on 140k miles that he bought new. Its become totally unreliable recently ( though I think he is too tight to pay for dealer repairs ) but when I suggest a Skoda or KIA replacement would be a decent cost effective replacement he says he wouldn't have them because of "that badge". Give him a wave when you pass him - he will be easy to spot his is the black CRV on the hard shoulder of the M62
I have the Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 SE 150BHP DSG with 7 seats when required. Had for 4 years and very happy, and as a grandad on the school run its ideal with good fuel return and very comfy on longer journeys.
Yeah heard so many problems with the US 4cyl. In the uk we only really seen to have the 2.2d and it’s both a lot more economical & reliable from what I’ve seen online
Rear diff bushings can wear as the car ages too. The two small bushings at the front of the diff seem to be the most common ones to wear. Also, make sure you change the automatic transmission fluid every now and then. Once the fluid wears out you will have issues with the lock up clutch (feels like an engine misfire at certain speeds). Keep the fluid fresh and the transmission is very reliable. Still driving my 2011 model to this day. Great review.
Great review of what is a terrific vehicle for people who don't want to oay today's silly money for transport & have something reliable & comfortable & not bad on the eye 👌
I drive a Santa fé 2012 3.5 v6 petrol, 100k km here in Brasil, sister car to the Sorrento, great car, no problems aside from drinking a bit too much petrol, but it is fast, comfortable and really reliable.
Hopefully you'll add the skoda Kodiaq to the list, Great looking suv in my opinion, i had one for two years a 17 reg never any problems with it, the DSG gearbox was ok did the job, amazing room inside i only had the 5 seater but it was wasted on me always felt i should be doing the school round when in reality i only had a dog so i got rid.
Feel safer in a well built car with some size like that though which is important on today's roads. I was sad at feeling the necessity to change a cracking little Fiat I'd bought new and liked after being tailgated at speed by a cattle transporter one night and a big suv on another occasion, sad about driving standards and enforcement nowadays, but safety of loved ones came first, not that my car is going to protect me from another Scania but feel safer facing yobs in cars.
i used one for my work, but was the new 22 plate models. was a 7 seater self charge hybrid. over 50k worth of car it was that high spec. hadnt driven one before nor an auto which this one was and it was so easy to drive , both fast and cruising. for a 1.6 petrol turbo with electric motor putting out 226hp it was very quick especially kick down on the move. going up hills was a breeze. chuck it in corners without concern and does also 600 miles to a tank. i would have one if i had the money and i dont need such a big car. dont know what these older ones are like but you'd have no regret getting a newer one. kia do make really nice cars, my work car now is a 22 plate awd auto sportage and while the 1.6 turbo petrol engine shifts the car quickly and effortlessly for 150hp without any electric motor aid and rides well for a car on 19" wheels. its fun to drive fast in, but the serento handled much better.
Had one in 2015 as a hire car for about 5 weeks .Did about 3000 miles all over the UK .TBH it was a very decent car and much better than my old Volvo XC90 that I had .The great thing was it was just a very easy drive ,and these days that is what I am bothered about!.Also it would carry a load of stuff.I remember a slightly scary emergency stop on the A55 expressway ,but it stayed on the road and did not crash .When I was looking to swap my old Volvo I seriously looked at one of these to replace it .
Ahaha, thanks Matt, it looks just like a well all rounder. I was curious about the off-road ability, if it kept the old Kia’s roughness, but I think for that you’d better of with a LR of course. It’s another great tool for the job. Cheers

A couple grand more get you a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe 7 seater, manual which is what I've had the past 5 years from new and it's an amazing modern family car.
1 thing I’ve always tried to figure out-if you need all 7 seats, 5 kiddy’s, going on holiday you’ll need some luggage etc. what is the biggest boot 7 seater, when the seats are all up? Q7, x5, LR discovery, Mercedes ml/gl xc90. Or the people buses-vw sharan, fords galaxy/smax, etc etc. It stands to reason, that if you have 7 people, you’ll need plenty of luggage. And each 1 I’ve seen, the boots are woeful at best.
Great honest review. Nothing like experience when reviewing a car. You should open in Ireland, major shortage of second hand cars here. Prices soaring on 2nd hand cars. I was put off by Kia’s after I owned a 2009 Kia Rio. The build quality was incredibly poor and one thing that really annoyed me about it was as soon as you shut the car door, the interior light went off, leaving you scrambling to find the ignition. That was one of many annoyances. Though Kia seemed to have really improved since my ownership. I have a Ford Kuga now and I really can’t fault it at all.
Your answer to that question is quite creative, but why does everyone think they need an SUV?? Estate cars are so much nicer to drive and do all the same things as these crossovers
The massive number of SUVs on the roads demonstrates that buyers WANT them!! It's no good bleating about them being no good if YOU don't like them..... I've noticed that there's a 'fashionable kickback' against SUVs in some groups of car buyers....but really, it's nonsense - people buy what they like. And, let's face it, SUVs are supremely practical family transport.......
@@andymccabe6712 Totally true that buyers should get what they like, after all it is their money, and if someone genuinely likes driving a crossover then good on them. The reality though is that many buyers don’t really care that much, their car is an appliance. Most of these things never go off-road, so people are buying them just for the tall form factor and a sense of “practicality”. A full-size estate has more cargo room, a much lower CG making it safer for rollover and better for handling, and uses less fuel because it has less frontal area hitting the air. Now, if someone looks at all that and still decides they want a crossover, awesome. They’ve made an informed choice. But I think a more realistic scenario is that buyers have come to associate SUVs with practicality and luxury because manufacturers want them to.

Hi Matt, suggest you get it up on a ramp with all four wheels aloft, stick it in drive, if all four wheels turn it’s ok, if just the front turn big problem, failed awd. Rear shocks also problem. Good luck
Hi Matt I liked this video, funny you should say about 4x4’s having more road noise because my 2021 Sportage AWD is noisier than I expected, is it the chassis/tyres/aerodynamics of a brick? Or maybe the higher ground clearance?

Rear number plate a bit shabby..😂😂
Nice review !
Knew you’d be a blue. Will look out for you in South Stand. See what you think of S5 ( had mine 6 months and love it).
Or would it be more likely Tunnel Club these days… 🏆🏆🏆🏆
Please do an affordable reliable used suv video
I rented one about 5 years ago , a deer ran out in front of me and the car almost put me on bonnet 👍
Decent for the caravan as well
Great value for money.
Kia Stinger? Great car in need of a review....
Please do a review on the HYUNDAI iX35
I'll do one for you now. Boring, uninspiring, ugly and the sort of car for people who don't like cars. The definition of beige.
A purchase with the head rather than the heart
If you get any vehicle's with knackered key fob that look crap go on ebay you can pick them up
for £5 as Long as the Original is still working got my son 4 of them for different use
ie electric garage door and electric barrier for work
have a look there's all different one's with A. B. C. D. or Symbols like door boot and so on hope this helps you stop you stressing about having one Fob you got dun over £25 use thumb 👍 and index finger Lot cheaper 😀
Would say is pretty good ,you say for 6 airbags ,was thinking I got 10 airbags on Tucson MK1 ? That way get beat up by the airbags haha 😂but will love to see the cheapest SUV used ones
Nice one Cyril (Matt )
Kevin
Nice car and another good video 🚗🚙🚘👍👍👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks
Nice review as always man ! Is this bigger than 1st gen ? bigger cargo space ? more room for peaople ? Thank you
More room because you get the extra row of seats but not sure about cargo space
Hi Matt, suggest you get it up on a ramp with all four wheels aloft, stick it in drive, if all four wheels turn it’s ok, if just the front turn big problem, failed awd. Rear shocks also problem. Good luck
Hi Matt I liked this video, funny you should say about 4x4’s having more road noise because my 2021 Sportage AWD is noisier than I expected, is it the chassis/tyres/aerodynamics of a brick? Or maybe the higher ground clearance?
Hey there,
I'm looking to purchase a large(ish) SUV. I'd be using it for my video work(transporting c-stands, camera gear & lighting equipment), explore as well as sleep in it.
I've narrowed it down to the:
1_Landrover Discovery Sport
2_Skoda Kodiaq
3_And the Kia Sorento
The LR Discovery Sport would be my preferred choice! But sadly I've read horror stories with reliability.
What would you advice?
Ps. Thanks for the great content!
Cheers,
J
On the topic of recommendations. What would you guys recommend for a 20 year old's first car? We've got a budget of ~6k.
We're driving a
2019 nissan cash cow at the minute it's on hire while the wife's car is getting repaired. I think it's a good car but not sure all the electrics will hold up.
When anyone says "I'm thinking of buying an old Disco" I always say if you not using it for towing buy a MK2 Sorento.
Love the writing on the road Matt. P.S Glad you've earned enough to ditch the Jeans with holes in off the 370z vid.
Top review as always.
No mention of cup holders.
we looked at these as we needed something heavy to tow with. Then I sat in one and it was just so cheap and nasty. Bought a 5 series touring instead!
I’m in the market soon for a 7 seater suv. This looks like a good option on a 16 plate I’ve seen on auto trader. Can you compare this with the Santa Fe from Hyundai ? Which is best. Looks like more for your money with Hyundai.
It's like a lot of other family SUV things really. I'd rather just use contraception.
Great vid, but why have you reviewed the 2d gen Sorento and not the 3th gen that has now been replaced by 2022 4th Gen ?
He is a car dealer and not surprisingly he shows car he sells I believe. Nothing wrong with that.
