  • Lovech, Bulgaria, is a hidden gem in the Balkan region of Eastern Europe. Despite being overlooked by many tourists, Lovech played a significant role in Bulgaria's struggle for freedom from the Ottoman Empire, but also in the over 800 years independence from the Byzantines.

This is the town I was born in! :)
As you showed in the video - it is related to major events in Bulgarian history. Also it used to be a big industrial center during Socialist era. But unfortunately, nowadays, it's a dying town - the population is mostly elderly people, most young people have escaped to big cities such as Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, or abroad. I really hope things will turn around, because Lovech is a beautiful town and I enjoy it every time I return there.
Thank you for showing my town to the people! Lovech is not enough advertised as a tourist destination. And thank you about not forgetting your Bulgarian roots.
And if you allow me - just one correction. Cyrillic alphabet was not created by Cyril and Metodi, it was created by one of their scholars - Saint Climent of Ohrid. He named the alphabet after one of his tutors - Cyril. But Ciryl and Metodi are very respected as well, because they set the foundations of what is now Bulgarian script and literacy and they were also tutors of some monks, and as I already wrote later one of them created the Cyrillic alphabet which nowadays is the alphabet of not only Bulgaria, but also Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and even Mongolia.

Thank you Nikolay for clearing it out. I had not heard about the Saint Climent story!! Yeah, I hope the future of the city will get brighter than ever. I am also deeply connected to the city. Thank you for the support too!!

It was not made by Sait Climent of Ohrid. The cyrilic alphabet was made in literally school of Preslav and there are clear evidences for this. The oldest cyrilic writings was found there in monks caves. And now about Saint Climent of Ohrid most of the books written during his time and after him was mainly written in glagolitic not cyrilic.

Unfortunately, I do not have a Bulgarian keyboard to answer you in Bulgarian, but I want to say thank you for the nice words and for the support!! I did not know about all these islands in the Danube and I know very little about northern Bulgaria as I have also mostly frequented South Bulgaria or have been visiting my grandparents in Lovech, but was very cool to hear about it. I will have to go soon to check them out!! Have a nice day!

@@martinverzillo Hello from me again, bro. Just one hint - you can use an ordinary qwerty keyboard with Bulgarian, if you use the so called Phonetic order of the keys. For example in this order the Latin "b" is equal to Bulgarian "б", or "p" is equal to "п", "m" is equal to "м" and so on.

@@nikolayrusanov8714 Yes, it's true, I know but I do not like doing that so much, I would much rather use a Cyrillic keyboard or write in English as long people understand me, which I assume as the video is in English, Thank you again though!!

The houses in varosha are build in bulgarian revival style architecture and are similar to the one builded during the second bulgarian empire(1187-1396) and the style was addopted by the byzantene empire, also the turks addopted byzantene architecture, cause previously they were living in tents and had no citys made of stone....so there is no such thing like ottoman architecture

Actually lovech was the revolutionary capital of bulgaria during the turkish ottoman yoke, and vasil levski made it the center of his revolutionary network of comitees and was visiting the city often to collect the comitee archive and documents ,thats how he was caught near lovech in the village of kakrina in local han(hotel and restaurant)levski was called by the turks jin-gibi or the ghost, cause he was always escaping in some ways that seemed supernatural to the turks like jumping over a high fenses or just dissapearing in the crowd....it is known that levski was imposible to find cause he used some disguises and the turks were seeking for help from the british and german inteligences and with their help they caught levski....infact the cia when was a new agency took some of levski laws about the revolution and conspiracy and they even have some of his verses put in cia headquarters in langly verginia...they use his knolidge and experience to create the agency.....levski means lion-like,cause he jump over a big hole or ditch that no body could jump over and they start calling him lion-like,or lionhearth

What else to say, than wow!! This is a very thorough explanation of the connection between Levski and Lovech which is awesome to learn about. Last year I was in Kakrina and saw the reenactment of the capturing of Levski by the Turkish soldiers. Very cool to see the story first hand!! Thank you again.

@@babiyarnazarismaily6207 Thank you for the explanation!! I am indeed very proud of my roots and of being Bulgarian. I know quite something about Bulgaria and its history having grown up in a multi-cultural family, and with my mom and grandparents having always wanted me to learn about where I come from. I have passed all of my first 20 years of life visiting Bulgaria at least one month per year, diving into the culture so I am very glad with that chance. True, though that I could learn much more about the ancient history of the country. Wish you all the best!!
