  • This Bulgaria 4k video continues my Bulgaria trip on the road through Central Bulgaria, one of the best road trips in Eastern Europe and not on major tourist maps, where I will show you more historic sites in Eastern Europe. In this Bulgaria travel video, I am exploring Lovech, one of the small historic cities in Eastern Europe, that are not on major tourist maps, at least not yet. It's a beautiful small town located in central Bulgaria and is yet another amazing historic site in Southeastern Europe. This travel walking tour through this great place in Bulgaria takes us to all major site in Lovech Bulgaria. Stick around to the end for some amazing drone footage from this beautiful city and some really cool nature shots during a beautiful sunset in the city and ruins just above Lovech, and a tip for an amazing traditional Bulgarian Restaurant.
What I like in Bulgaria is that there is so much to see and explore everywhere. Lovech is located about 150 kilometers (93 miles) northeast from the capital city of Sofia. Lovech is a pretty small town with only about 36,000 residents. But it is actually one of the oldest towns in Bulgaria and a truly historic place in Eastern Europe. In 1187 the peace treaty between the Bulgarian Empire and the Byzantine Empire was signed in Lovech. This marked the beginning of the Second Bulgarian Empire and Lovech became an important trade centre and one of the most famous towns in Bulgaria.

This was my first time in Bulgaria and this Bulgaria travel video should serve as an introduction with information that is good to know about Bulgaria before you go to Bulgaria. Bulgaria is a good idea for your next vacation if you enjoy the beautiful nature in Southeastern Europe and you want to get history in Southeastern Europe. It's a bit off the major tourist maps and is still very affordable as a travel destination. So if you're looking for Southeastern Europe vacation ideas, definitely check out Beautiful Bulgaria. And should you visit Bulgaria for yourself, this Bulgaria 4k video will give you a good head start.

I admire the fact that you show off so beautifully the Balkan countries that don't seem to be getting that much attention. You paint them so lovingly and it comes through clearly. Your sunset videos are especially gorgeous. The music complements it perfectly. Thank you Janus! 🤗👍🥰

A great video! Thank you so much! Lovech is really outside the main tourist destination in Bulgaria, nevertheless, this town can offer a lot to the visiters. You show the sights of this beautiful town. You mention important historic events. I would like to add that the covered bridge was built by the famous self-educated constructor Kolyo Fitcheto. You mention the name and the activity of the great Bulgarian revolutionary Vassil Levski. He chose Lovetch as a centre of the Home Revolutionary Organization in Bulgaria. Levski is called "the Apostle", as he goes about the country and founds revolutionary committees. Levski is arrested near Lovech.

I agree it is a gem. Enjoyed the bridge and the shops. I always wonder how people get up to the homes on the hills when the roads are hardly big enough for a car. The food looks amazing, I can see how you loved it. Have a super week.

Thanks for showing Lovech. Even in Bulgaria it has dropped off the tourist map and there is so much to see there. There is so much to see there from different eras. The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times! Long before the Thracians. Please watch your historic references. There were no Ottomans in the 8th century but the Bulgarian tsardom. The Ottomans didn't built anything new in Bulgaria. If they didn't destroy existing fortresses or palaces, they preserved them only if they used them, hence most fortresses are in total ruins. The only truly built Ottoman fortress I know of is Medjidi Tabija in Silistra and it was built by German engineers. Silistra is another historic town off the beaten tracks in Bulgaria, by the way.

Great video! I just want to mention that this is not the original covered bridge built by Koliyo Fitcheto. The original bridge burned in 1925 and was rebuilded at 1931. The exterior of the bridge was reconstructed several times after that.

Historically, the Northern towns especially by the Danube were more developed especially after we began trade from the Danube with Austria and Europe in the late 19th century. The architecture is also kinda different compared to the south. If you go to Ruse, for instance, its central part has Viennese styled buildings. It is known for the city of first inventions in Bulgaria such as first railway line ever constructed in the country connecting it with Varna, first elevator, first streetlight, first printing office, etc, etc.
So is the case in Pleven, Svishtov or Lom with central European architecture in the central part. Vratsa is also really beautiful surrounded by its characteristic mountains.
Sadly, now it is the other way round. The south seems to be more developed with more roads, rail links, etc. Also receives much more tourism. Most people head to Sofia, Plovdiv, Bansko and the southern part of the seaside (Sozopol, Nessebar) as well as the incredible Rhodope Mountains and 7 Rila Lakes. The people in northern Bulgaria are more interesting and authentic in my opinion and personal experience whilst travelling around the country.
Btw, you seemed to have learnt quite a lot and share important historical facts. Well done and respect.
P.S. 19:23 - The menu prices are so affordable! Nothing in comparison with the ones in Sofia.

Old houses in lovech and other places in bulgaria, are called bulgarian revival style houses and the building style is similar to the old houses build during the second bulgarian empire wich are taken from the byzantene empire and the stile used out there....while the ottomans did not posses their own stile other then soldiers uniforms everything was taken from byzantenes they even still use some buildings that remain in tact from roman times
