I just have to say that you have entirely changed the way I look at skincare. A subject that used to send my head into a spin and put me to sleep is made so exciting and interesting with your sense of humor and the way you explain it. I agree that you would take the gold in analogies. Thank you for making learning how to care for my skin such an experience. Love and hugs.
I love the original good genes and am disappointed to see the shady process by which Sunday Riley has encouraged fake reviews AND by their half-assed apology to it :/
After I read about the fake reviews it has made me not want to buy from them anymore. The reasoning behind why they did it makes no sense. I'm so sick of these companies.....
I just wanted to know why brands like Sunday Riley are so expensive? I know formulas would be totally different but essentially if you are mainly paying for a glycolic acid exfoliatant then there are much cheaper alternatives. For example The ordinary glycolic toner 7% at ph around 3.5 / 3.7 and also pixi do a 10% glycolic acid serum (couldn't find ph level to this). You have educated your audience so well over the years that we have become savy in asking questions like this but aren't in the industry to understand and justify why some products are extortionate and other products are made at a much more affordable price, again I know as you say 'formula is king' but if you're buying something for the same main ingredient then why are prices world's apart? Would love to see a video of you discussing this topic. x
Honestly it all comes down to formula and then eventually the brands preference. The Ordinary is ‘ordinary’. It’s a tough glycolic recommended for use 1 x a week. This can be used twice a day. And then ultimately a brand has a right to set their price you know? A Mini is a car. So is a Rolls-Royce. They both get you there, one is just a more luxurious ride. ☺️
@@CarolineHirons01 You have the best way of describing things in a way we can understsnd 😄. Would still like to see this topic discussed more in depth, especially when people use the term 'dupe' in which there are clear differences sometimes but other times when a product is marketed that it includes a certain main ingredient and another product claims the same then a consumer sometimes it's a head scratching moment figuring out which one to get if all you paying to get the same results of which it claims and one maybe packaged or feel slightly nicer.
you kind of answered your own question there. two products could have the exact same ingredients but the slight difference in percentage could make all the difference in performance and texture. not to mention brands source their ingredients differently, the origins, the qualities, whether it's ethical or not, there are so many factors that go into these things, all ingredients and formulas aren't created the same. also brands with a corporate backing can get ingredients at a drastically different price point, not to mention production and lab support, while indie brands have to pay everything out of pocket. everytime a formula gets sent back to the lab for a fix-up, it's a another huge bill to pay, and god knows how many times it might take to get a formula right (brands like the ordinary aren't known to have the most sophisticated formulas so that also naturally cut down the overhead). a similar t-shirt could cost 5 pounds from primark (sewn by child in china) and 300 pounds from a parisian luxury brand, they could have the same exact mark-ups, and in many cases the 5 pound t-shirt might have a higher mark-up. that's just how supply chains work.
I reckon you are right. I was looking into UK return policy on beauty products last night (USA are very lucky in that regard) anyway I read on a blog last night that if products don’t do what they claim or are not as described most reputable places SHOULD provide a refund. Just something to keep in mind I guess.
skeletondance I owned my own apparel company and this is morally reprehensible to me. So I would like to say that not all companies lack morals and credibility.
When Sunday Riley takes your good advice and offers both on their website to those of us in the US, how should we incorporate both in our routines? Inquiring minds need to know! 💖
Good thing you posted this video Caroline. If Sunday Riley has any sense they'll take note of your advice and do the good genes L, G and then the good genes mandelic. I would so buy the mandelic good genes!
Forgive my ignorance, but if L would be for texture, G would be for aging, what Mandelic would be specifically for? I used Mandelic Acid in the past, as well as Lactic, and loved them both, but struggle to understand what exactly differentiates them.
I dont know why so many people are against glycolic acid just because it penetrates deeper than lactic acid. Ive used almost all kinds of acids from many products including Alpha H, DCL and DE, and it is glycolic and mandelic acids that work perfect on my skin with clogged pores. So im so excited to try Good Genes this time!
Good genes in Australia is 5% lactic acid. It’s one of the few exfoliants that don’t irritate my rosacea. I never get an immediate sting, instead I deal with red sore skin hours after glycolic application. It can last for a couple of days.
Hi Caroline, I would love to hear your thoughts on the latest news about Sunday Riley's employees being asked to post bogus reviews for the brand. Thank you!
I am 36 weeks pregnant and started my maternity leave this week, I and don't think I am going to achieve anything before wee one arrives because I am just bingewatching all your videos Caroline! :D I am sure the world is a better place with you walking on it, never stop what you are doing, I love you! xx
I hope you can do a dedicated video on Glycolic acid and how all your favourite, tried and tested, Glycolic acid products stack up against each other. Judging from your glowing review here, I assume this must have made it to your hall of fame. But I remember not too long you introduced us to Alpha-H's liquid gold and the Pixi Glow Tonic and you were waxing lyrical about them too. I get what you mean that it all comes down to formulation and I love that Rolls Royce/Mini analogy but for us the consumers, it's really important to know if a skincare product is really worth sacrificing a week's meal (depending on which country you live in) for.
Pixi and Alpha H were first discussed around five or more years ago. This is a more sophisticated product but obviously if you have budget concerns then stick with what you can afford. And yes I can start compiling products for a vid. :)
In case Sunday Riley really are coming to the comments :) Can you tell us if the silicones in the serum might block absorption of any ingredients layered on top? If the answer is yes I’d use cheaper products on top rather than wasting anything special, so it would be great to know. Thanks!
@@CarolineHirons01 I am so glad you answered this. I don't have a problem with silicones, and have noticed some products with them help my skin. (Especially with epidermal water loss.) But, I was under the impression that they did block absorption as they are occlusive. Although, I do know silicones are different. Can you do a vlog/blog post about the differences in silicones? How to tell, etc? I have been only using products w silicones at the end of my routine, and no more than two, if at all. There are some serums I would love to try, but have avoided because of the silicones. Ty!! #skinfreak 😉😂😘
Hi Caroline, love the video as always! Quick question, I'm 23, have oily, hormonal spot prone skin, usually around my chin and jaw, nothing major, and my skincare regime up until a few weeks ago was just a foam cleanser and moisturiser morning and evening, but since discovering you I have completely revamped my routine (no foaming cleaners in sight!). I'm now using an oil cleanser morning and evening (budget is a concern), and a concoction of other products that contain most of the ingredients on your anti-ageing cheat sheet (a godsend!) and am now also hoping to try Good Genes at some point, preferably the Lactic version if that ever becomes available in the UK again... I'm not usually prone to sensitive skin and I've had no burning or redness with any of the products I've started using (I've started on acids, mists and different moisturisers and will ramp it up again when I can). However, I've been breaking out more than usual in the past week or so, and around a different time of the month than usual. My question is, is this to be expected with a complete skincare overhaul such as the one I've had recently or is it possible that this is my skin reacting badly? Sorry for the long-winded question, I just wanted to give you all the info I could to make it easier for you to give an answer appropriate to my skin!
Holy Duran Duran!!! JOY!!!! I'm a newbie to Good Genes - and Sunday Riley in general - I know living under a rock and all that!!! I have the UK Good Genes and Luna night oil... I am aware that these two products are sold as a 'Dream Team' in the US - but I'm not sure if I can use these both together with the UK version of GG???? Should I just not - at any cost??? Or wait for a bit??? Or ??? Any and all wonderful advice very happily received!!! Ciao Duraners! X
Got to love an EU change that alters a companies main product 🙄 I love Sunday Reily Good Genes and look forward to the change and see if it matches up to the original. Sometimes life works in mysterious ways and it might be a blessing. The Christmas calendars in the back you tease us Caroline x
Thank you so much for the technical info on the two products. I reached out to Sunday Riley about the acid percentages and pH of both products and they replied “We are unable to disclose this as it's proprietary information”. Were you able to get the info because you are THE Caroline Hirons? 😜🙂 Just wondering! Nowadays I think consumers are more knowledgeable and want transparency from brands when it comes to formulations and the chemistry of products.
I honestly agree with them. It’s no different to Coke not giving the complete recipe for their drink. There’s a big difference between transparency and being an actual scientist, something that a lot of customers think that they now are, in large thanks to The Ordinary. 🤷♀️😄
They've taken out the Orchid, Agave, Arnica, Meadowfoam and Aloe extracts from the GG L, I find that more disappointing than the switching of AHA's tbh. I've a sample on the way, I'll be interested to see how it performs on my skin.
Caroline, excellent summation as always. As an older, over 50 and breathing on 60, gal with oily mature skin should I lean more towards to SR-G? I'm thinking this may work quite well for me. I take it that we can order either L or G in the states and only G in the UK, correct? But, if someone really wanted to get their hands on the product, L specifically, couldn't they just have someone mail it to them? Ok, let me stop before the FDA and EU police come drag my old tail out of the house. Haha. We've got to find someone else for you to swear to besides Duran Duran. Let me stew on it and I'll get back to you.
What about those of us who seem to do better with lactic acid? Glycolic seems to irritate my redness with regular use. Well you knew we would say this didn't you?
I absolutely agree. Glycolic Acid seems to really irritate my skin no matter what. So I’m sticking to the lactic acid. It’s amazing!!! The way I like to use this especially when I have a few break outs or slept in my makeup SEE BELOW 😒 🙈 judge not...my days are so long. Use Fresh Sugar Face Polish, which exfoliates the dead skin cells. It leaves an oily feel on the skin after rinsing it off so I use a dab (dime sized amount) of Fresh Soy Face Cleanser and rinse with cool water. After I pat dry, I use the Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid. After 1-2 minutes, I use a q-tip dipped in tea tree oil and spot treat the areas where I’m breaking out. WHEN I SAY THE NEXT MORNING THE BREAK OUTS ARE GONE, I MEAN IT! The combination of all 3 literally leave my skin baby smooth. 💋 💋 💋 Cheers to great skin and staying hydrated! 🥂
How bizarre! I've just googled some of my fav lactic acid products and there are a few 10%, some 8% PH's of 3.8 for example... Also Pixi glow pads are 20% glycolic acid right?? When did the EU issue the memo?? I'd better stock up!!
I tried their lactic acid and it gave me many pimples or spots. I think it's because I have a severe allergy to milk products. Not that it contains milk but that It mimics it on my skin. I hope it comes to the USA in glycolic acid. I have no allergies to that and would snatch it up right away.
So interesting and wonderful of Sunday Riley to be so great about this video! I do have a question -I’ve read the ph is actually 2.6 from multiple websites to include UK websites and US websites. Are these websites incorrect as I would think Sunday Riley would know their PH better than independent websites. A couple of these claim to “test” actual ph hence that’s how they got their ph number. Are these sites incorrect on the ph? Thank you as always for such excellent content both on UA-cam and your blog!
Hi Caroline I tried the Sunday Riley Lactic Acid version and did like the instant brightening, it was elegant. Then I tried The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% and I cannot tell the difference except one costs $12! The Ordinary Glycolic Toner 7% pH 3.6 for 240 ml is elegant with Tasmanian Pepperberry and ginseng it’s hands down my favourite ...is there a point where you ask Sunday Riley why 100 quid? Are consumers getting too savvy about ingredients and find this a tad insulting?
Only 5:16 in but have to ask: so if on March 31, 2019 Brexit does happen, does the UK get the same product the US gets and the EU continues with this new one??? As a business owner, I’m not sure I would have made that business investment until after the Brexit date. Happy to see you today Hirons-💕
Thank you, Caroline. US resident here! I'm actually out of good genes and I think I will benefit more from the glycolic formula so I will be trying it out. Question, if anyone knows : if glycolic is a stronger acid, why would it cost less? Trust me - I am not complaining lol. 💜
Hi dear Caroline i would love to know your thoughts about face devices, like Nu face wich uses microcurrent to lift the facial muscles? Going back to topic interesting i like good genes lactic acid, but it didnt wow me at all. I recomend to who likes lactic acid serums to check Fom London brigthning nigth serum. Its everything that good genes claims to do and more,it contains more anti aging active ingridients and leaves your skin hydrated luminous and fine lines praticly gone, plumpes your skin and its a natural anti polution brand . No perfumes, no alcohol ,no parabens. And with the good genes i strugle to get any resultes . Lots of love dear Caroline
Does anyone know if Australia has the new formula? Their skincare ingredient rules are usually similar to the EU, but on checking the good genes ingredients on Mecca it still seems to include lactic? Thanks!
Ok. I’m currently in the USA so am able to purchase this. However, I did use the drunk elephant baby facial and I heard you mention on another video that space NK won’t be stocking that either. Which would you recommend? I have a LOT of sun damage btw x
Am gutted...I can only use lactic acid, never Glycolic (weird, because I use tretinoin), but will try it because Sunday's skincare is beautiful. just really loved Good Genes :-(
I just got the Glycolic from Cult Beauty and used it last night and honestly, I am SO HAPPY with it and relieved because I was worry about the switch to Glycolic x
Amanda Sifoni can I ask what kind of skin you have? I'm 34 with dry, dehydrated skin that I've managed to finally get in control of. I love GG, but I'm curious about this new formula! 💕
Thank you Caroline for a very informative video! I'm in Canada however, I would really be interested in the UK version of Sunday Riley as my skin does well with version G :) I think 2 versions with a possible 3rd is good idea. What works well for 1 isn't always good for another. It will be interesting to see which way SR goes with this dynamic product. p.s, I was holding my breath over the Duran Duran comment!!
Hi Caroline, I have a question about using acids in my skin, I’m getting since the last year some capillaries around my mouth. I got a facial, they are only a few ones but I’m obsessed with them. I have sensitive skin, easy redness... in a facial they told me not to use lactic acid, is that a factor that make it worst? I’m using retinol in the night, is that also something that can affect it. If you have any tips for it, I would be eternally grateful! Thanks for your content!
Great video thank you for the clarification. I actually had more questions then I realized so when you went through the points and touched on them you cleared it up for me. Thank you for being thorough.
Do you like this more than the TLC Framboos by DE? Great and very informative video, as always. Can’t wait to try it out, as I love glycolic and we get along quite well.
Thank you Fairy God mother of skincare🙏🏻 I could cry when I found out good genes was gone and being reformulated! I’m going to buy it now, resting assured that it’s got your seal of approval ☺️🌹
Caroline, if you have used this product... FARMACY Honeymoon Glow AHA Resurfacing Night Serum with Echinacea GreenEnvy can you please do a quick review on your thoughts.
Do you know what’s happening with Australia. I found the lactic after my second bottle was too heavy for me and my skin was getting oily by 12. I have very oily skin to begin with and I hadn’t changed anything in my skin routine. Which one do you think would be better for oily skin? Or any similar products that is better suited for oily skin? Shall I say oily skin again 🧐
aao1122 Mecca website sells lactic acid version. Sunday Riley answered someone else in comments and said Australia is unchanged. I’m not an expert but maybe use it only at night if it upsets yr skin and makeup during the day😀
Pfff, every time I've tried Glycolic I've ended up with those massive under-skin spots and they last (and hurt) for months.. That's going to be a pass for me. Thanks for the info Caroline!
+Caroline Hirons Rather off topic, but what do you think of facial massage tools like the Nurse Jamie roller or jade rollers? I wake up in the morning with really puffy eyes and I don't know if they're worth the investment. I did a quick search in your video list and couldn't find anything specific about facial tools. Thank you!
I have the jade roller, not a essential product butttt so lovely on the skin, love to give myself a massage when I apply a facial oil. Definitely can see a glow it gives my skin along side my skincare routine!
+Caroline Hirons That’s why I was asking. If Caroline Hirons tells me to use it, I’ll use it, but if Caroline Hirons tell me not to use it or that I don't need to use it, then I won’t.
quadbox I don’t know if this helps but jade rollers are ok but the methode Jeanne plaubert one is (for me personally) better. The jade one cools your face down, which is nice but you need stimulation more than cold to get rid of puffiness. Hope this helps
@carolinehirons my daughter is going also through pimply forehead phase (it's not acne)...I use Sunday Riley Good Genes and votary to help her. Could you make a video on how to treat "pimply forehead"? She has dry skin and I need some help here...merci ❤️
I had that as a teen.. back then, I used a Bebe toning lotion that worked like a dream and all my school colleagues started using it as well. that was the mid 90s though so maybe there s better options now :) but why not try it? it s a German drugstore brand..
dinavienna aren‘t those toners basically just straight up alcohol? I remember using one in my early teens and it smelled like straight up vodka. I had those pimples on my forehead after I started taking thyroid hormones and the only thing that helped me was a cream that my dermatologist prescribed.
Honestly I have no idea! Back then I did not really know whether a lot else was available for teens? I can say the toner helped clear up my forehead pimples perfectly, and did not dry out my skin (clearasil, another brand which was popular among teenagers back then, I definitely was not able to use way too harsh). I reckon better options mgiht be available for teens, but again - with very good skin all through my teens except for the forehead bumps, the toner by Bebe helped perfectly and after 1-2 years of use I had flawless skin.. I used nothing else back in the day.
My issue definitely was not serious enough to see a dermatologist though.. so if one is very bothered by an issue, seeing one might be a good idea. My only experience with one in my mid-20s where I had one short period of what looked like acne was not a good experience though. The dermatoligist thought it was a classical case of adult acne, and prescribed something horribly harsh that messed up my skin completely... when I stopped using that cream and with patience for a few months my skin went back to normal by itself. So to find a good dermatologist probably is the correct advice :))
Caroline!! You are my hero! Lactic works really well on my dry/dehydrated and blemish prone skin! Any advice on lactic products available in the UK? Glycolic is too harsh for my skin! What purpose does mandelic have within the regime/ for the skin? X
gabriellestars Have you tried PHA? I have similar skin and am using the PHA Plus serum by GOW at Victoria Health. There’s an article about PHAs somewhere on their site if you wanted to read up.
Am in Germany and really wanted to sample the GC products and could only order from Beautylish from the US since Cult beauty doesn't stock the power couple sample set. I got the lactic acid. I loved it, then decided to order the full bottle from Cult Beauty and got the Glycolic acid. Just opened my mail and noticed it's Glycolic. Was thinking of returning it but thought I gotta search for you since I love your reviews. And voila, now am thinking of keeping the Glycolic!! Still have my lactic 15ml though. 😊😊
You can still buy the lactic version on Beautylish and Revolve in case you were wondering. Dunno if anyone would want to know considering the recent controversy...
Totally love lactic Good Genes, and I would definitely try the glycolic version (I am a rude American of a certain age). But here’s the problem I have with glycolics: they dry out the inside of my nose to the point where it’s painful. Anyone else have that problem? Or, am I just a flaming weirdo? I never get any other sort of irritation, other than the painfully dry nose.
I might have missed your point on this - isn't lactic acid also a humectant (and glycolic isn't)? I think that is in part why my skin loves it so much :(((
Hi Caroline....have you had a chance to try or look into the Ole henriksen glow cycle Retin-ALT serum and the goodnight glow Retin-ALT sleeping cream? Would love your opinion on those two products. Thanks!
Ok, I'm pretty dedicated to good genes but I can't use it every night so if the brand is watching, get it to Sephora asap for the holiday shopping season!!!
I loved how informative your video was! It gave me a better understanding on what I put on my skin. I just started watching your video, and look forward to the insight on ingredients and what it does for the skin! Thank you!
Is there silicon in the UK version? If there is does it have as much as the lactic version? I loved the effect of lactic in good genes, but the silicon made me break out.
I have a question , if Good Genes isn't allowed to be sold in the EU due to lactic acid level and PH, does this mean that BP PIGM 400 isn't going to be sold also ? :-S In general , could you do a video on lactic acid products available in EU / Uk that have a high percentage of lactic acid and a good PH level ? Thank you xxx
My favourite night serum is Alpha H’s Liquid Gold intensive night repair serum, but that claims to be 14% Glycolic Acid. Does that mean we will have trouble buying that in the U.K.?
Do you think that me at 27 years with some sun spots and no other skin problems should buy one of them to prevent wrinckles and other problems? Thanks !
I had right strop about this, loved the lactic! Wasn't even going to try the glycolic, not that I can’t tolerate it I use liquid gold however, Caroline has changed my mind. There goes the 85 quid I thought I was going to save 😊
Would it be very greedy of me to want both here in the US? Seeing as you all over in the UK/EU can only have the one. If not where’s the petition, would happily sign it. Sorry guys and gals.
When i go an email notification that the Good Genes is back on Cult Beauty i literally almost fainted. At that point i knew sooner or later it will be back on Space NK (yes a loyal customer :) … and sure it was. i was just about to press PAY when i thought ok wait lets see what Caroline has to say about it first ;) We love you CarHi!!
Old good genes is the only thing that worked on my skin. I used many glycolic acid exforliators and never got the same effect even with the DCL penta peptide :(
I have a question on an aging skin that is just starting to suffer with acne spots because of menopause. My skin is still combination to dry but spots on my jaw line chin area. Which acid would you recomend? I've been using lactic but everything seems to agitate it. I'm at a loss with what to change with my skin care help ? (AGING IS Sooooo..... fun)
*Caroline, can you please recommend a clinical strength Tretinoin 0.5 or 0.75? It's been a couple years since I ran out and didn't know where to buy without first paying my local dermatologist $350 just to get the prescription, then i have to buy the actual cream on top so it winds up costing alot of money. So I've been using the Paul's Choice 1%. I'm hoping to save the $350 to see the dermatologists in my area and just buy a clinical strength Tretinoin or RetinA. Is this possible? Can you recommend where in Canada or the USA that I can buy this clinical strength product? I live in British Columbia Canada, but I travel to the USA monthly so I can buy there as well. I just don't know where to buy it. Without paying a dermatologist $350 first just to get a refill of a product is know works great for me from the previous dermatologist who prescribed it years ago! I'm looking for the faster results like I had before with the clinical strength. Your help would be awesome, even if you point me in the right direction and I'll look from there. I'm asking you Thank you for your time Caroline. I respect you and your vast knowledge. I appreciate any suggestions you can offer to me.*
Jillian Joy hey you should check out dr. Dray she’s a dermatologist from Texas. She has a really informative playlist on retinols, retinoids, retinoic acid derivatives (tretinoin) etc ua-cam.com/play/PLUM_QJFLRbNKT1uTgy_v7QQhJAgJgVgPJ.html
There’s no such thing as 0.5 or 0.75% tretinoin. The strongest tretinoin available is 0.4, iirc, and it’s practically impossible to get as it’s mostly made for clinical studies. The most common % you can buy are 0.1, 0.05, 0.04, 0.025, 0.02 and 0.01. Tretinoin is prescription only in the US and quite expensive, you’d have better luck with buying it in Mexico, if you get there, it’s dirt cheap. otherwise, there are website that send it from countries like India, where it’s widely available and very affordable.
@@cristinabalan4037 @Cristina Balan I don't have my tube of product infront of me here since it's in the garage used up, my apologies if I wrote the wrong word or %. I used the glycolic one today and it made my skin quite red and made it feel tight, is this normal. I have normal skin with dark circles and the occasional spot I’m not sure what skin care or what I should be doing with my skin I’m only 18 so not sure what’s best. Have you Any advice? I find these videos really interesting. X
Hi, thank you for this video. Do you know why Sunday Riley changed the formula for Ceramic Slip? I haven't tried the new formula yet but have just ordered it. I love the old version of Ceramic Slip so can't understand why they reformulated it.
I don't know why they changed it, but I'm loving the new formula. This formula seems IME better for sensitive skin; the prior formula stung my eye area badly, whereas this one does not. It's definitely got less of a scent, and spreads very easily even though it only foams slightly. Overall I'm much happier with the newer version.
Andrew Smith thanks for letting me know. I’m quite apprehensive about the reformulation. I like the “punch” the old version has. I don’t use ceramic slip around my eyes so it wasn’t a problem I faced. Hopefully I like the reformulated version
Hi Caroline, love your REAL posts. Please can you help. I have started using The ordinary vit c 23% and have broken out in raised spots. I do not consider my skin to be sensitive. I heard you talk about skin purging before, might this be happening and just need to stick with it. Any recommendations appreciated
I have used glycolic acid in peels etc but I find useing Rx Retin a micro one night and mix acid serum usually glycolic & lactic and then a day off was to much. So I ordered the lactic acid one. I live in the US hoping it helps with those under the skin bumps that eventually turn into breakouts with being to much. But if I got sample of the glycolic one I would try it out.
Maybe someone has already commented on this but The Ordinary Lactic Acid and Biologique Recherche P50 come to mind immediately!!! So... how does that work?
I just have to say that you have entirely changed the way I look at skincare. A subject that used to send my head into a spin and put me to sleep is made so exciting and interesting with your sense of humor and the way you explain it. I agree that you would take the gold in analogies. Thank you for making learning how to care for my skin such an experience. Love and hugs.
Ah that’s so good to hear thank you for sharing xx

Cheyenne Findeis Formulation.
Good question! Would love to hear the answer!

you kind of answered your own question there. two products could have the exact same ingredients but the slight difference in percentage could make all the difference in performance and texture. not to mention brands source their ingredients differently, the origins, the qualities, whether it's ethical or not, there are so many factors that go into these things, all ingredients and formulas aren't created the same. also brands with a corporate backing can get ingredients at a drastically different price point, not to mention production and lab support, while indie brands have to pay everything out of pocket. everytime a formula gets sent back to the lab for a fix-up, it's a another huge bill to pay, and god knows how many times it might take to get a formula right (brands like the ordinary aren't known to have the most sophisticated formulas so that also naturally cut down the overhead). a similar t-shirt could cost 5 pounds from primark (sewn by child in china) and 300 pounds from a parisian luxury brand, they could have the same exact mark-ups, and in many cases the 5 pound t-shirt might have a higher mark-up. that's just how supply chains work.
Has anyone seen the tea on Reddit about Sunday Riley?! Sounds like really questionable conduct on their behalf...
Ciara Kennedy they actually admitted to it. I’m so glad I saw it before I bought this.
you might as well stop buying from most brands, i'm sure almost ALL of them do it
I reckon you are right.
Michelle Yu this is hardly a question of morality, credibility maybe.
When Sunday Riley takes your good advice and offers both on their website to those of us in the US, how should we incorporate both in our routines? Inquiring minds need to know! 💖
"I swear to Duran Duran." 😂😂😂
You know she's serious when she says that!

@@CarolineHirons01 I 'am their fan for so many years, so happy to hear that you are too!
Good thing you posted this video Caroline. If Sunday Riley has any sense they'll take note of your advice and do the good genes L, G and then the good genes mandelic. I would so buy the mandelic good genes!
KellyJelly9976 totally agree as my skin loves Mandela acid. I use the DCL penta peel and my skin says thank you!
Forgive my ignorance, but if L would be for texture, G would be for aging, what Mandelic would be specifically for? I used Mandelic Acid in the past, as well as Lactic, and loved them both, but struggle to understand what exactly differentiates them.
Shhh don’t let it catch on in the EU that glycolic is stronger.
I know right?! who is in charge of these regulations and do they watch this channel lol
The EU is giving us wrinkles! Put that on your bus, Boris.
Boris is giving me wrinkles...
Boris gives me worst things than wrinkles..
Screamingggg lmaoooo. Put this on the sign for the anti brexit march next week
😂Brilliant ;)
I am sure the world is a better place with you walking on it, never stop what you are doing, I love you! xx
I wouldn't be so sure about that. Look up what Brandon Truaxe from The Ordinary had to say about all those "celebs".
I literally gasped out loud when you sweared on Duran Duran 😲🤪
me too!!!
Yep, me too. She’s not kidding. That got my attention
I had to pause it cause I was laughing just so I could get myself together lol. Cause I knew it was about to get serious!
Girl Duran Duran loves of my life!!!
Geez I do hope they will, at the very least, offer both options on their website!
Would love to see the glycolic available here in the states. :)
and for us Canadian girls
Neostrata makes a good one!
You can buy 20% Glycolic Acid from Walgreens very cheap -- same thing
Thanks!
Allow me. No they won’t. I personally love a silicone.
Caroline Hirons Thank you! And thank you for the video. Loving your recent work 😘
Thank you x
@@CarolineHirons01 I am so glad you answered this. I don't have a problem with silicones, and have noticed some products with them help my skin. (Especially with epidermal water loss.) But, I was under the impression that they did block absorption as they are occlusive. Although, I do know silicones are different. Can you do a vlog/blog post about the differences in silicones? How to tell, etc? I have been only using products w silicones at the end of my routine, and no more than two, if at all. There are some serums I would love to try, but have avoided because of the silicones. Ty!! #skinfreak 😉😂😘
Caroline Hirons Oh! Off-topic, but will there be a Cult Beauty box this year? Do hope so.
A Good Genes range would be fantastic!
I know I can’t turn back the clock but your tutorials are seriously having a wonderful impact on my skin 🙏🏻❤️💐
I would so buy the Good Genes Mandelic Acid!
Caroline Hirons fair point. I understand where you are coming from. Thanks for the feedback!
Yes you would be GG x
I was typing ‘you would be GG Glycolic. :) x
What about those of us who seem to do better with lactic acid? Glycolic seems to irritate my redness with regular use. Well you knew we would say this didn't you?
LOL yes. Can you get to a store? This is much more gentle than I expected. X
I’m allergic to Glycolic acid so I can no longer use this & I love the original lactic acid version, wish I’d stocked up on my last US visit!!!
💋 💋 💋
Cheers to great skin and staying hydrated! 🥂
How bizarre! I've just googled some of my fav lactic acid products and there are a few 10%, some 8% PH's of 3.8 for example... Also Pixi glow pads are 20% glycolic acid right?? When did the EU issue the memo?? I'd better stock up!!
What other products from brands are the EU looking at taking ...do we need to stock up x
I’ll give you a heads up :)
bobbie pops hopefully you won’t have to when Brexit happens.
I don't even use good genes I just love any video you make dear Caroline.
Can you do a Cheat Sheet on pH please? 💋
Frida Skoglund if you look on Instagram or blog @goalstogetglowing she as done a whole PH wheel which is fantastic and explains it all.
Not necessarily - the CTPA are in constant discussions with the EU so we won’t really know until we know. If you know what I mean :)
Thank you, Caroline. US resident here! I'm actually out of good genes and I think I will benefit more from the glycolic formula so I will be trying it out. Question, if anyone knows : if glycolic is a stronger acid, why would it cost less? Trust me - I am not complaining lol. 💜
I believe she gave the price of the glycolic in pounds as it’s not currently available in the US. Once converted it’s roughly the same price.
Exactly this /)
I used to use the REN glycolic goo, and found it very effective. I do wonder how this new version will compare for me. Thanks as always, Caroline!
YES YES AND MORE YES!!! I was so surprised when this information came out. I managed the SR counter at Bergdorf Goodman
You are brilliant! Add to the list of reasons why... I love the idea of Good Genes - L and Good Genes - G
Am gutted...I can only use lactic acid, never Glycolic (weird, because I use tretinoin), but will try it because Sunday's skincare is beautiful. just really loved Good Genes :-(
This is weird timing. Someone just leaked out company emails on Reddit about Sunday Riley forcing employees to write fake reviews on Sephora. Awkward!
Well at least I have something to talk about in Bun Friday. :)
I was in London a few weeks ago and legit looked for you everywhere that I went, especially when I passed by any store that offered skin care. :-)
I just got the Glycolic from Cult Beauty and used it last night and honestly, I am SO HAPPY with it and relieved because I was worry about the switch to Glycolic x
We are so happy you are loving Gylcolic!
Amanda Sifoni does it still smell of lemongrass? I loved that scent (though I know not everyone did).
Yes it does!
Zoe White Yes!! It smells exactly the same!! I’m so pleased!
Amanda Sifoni can I ask what kind of skin you have? I'm 34 with dry, dehydrated skin that I've managed to finally get in control of. I love GG, but I'm curious about this new formula! 💕
Dear, dear lady!! I cannot respond on insta, but am so very relieved for you and sweet Monty, I have tears. Many hugs for you both!!!!!
Neostrata makes a good glycolic acid!
@@decorrater8548 thank you for sharing 😊
Yes.
Love love watching you Caroline. You give us the level of information we are looking for. How does good genes compare to the Ordinary‘ offering?
Caroline, Which do you recommend putting on first, GG L or Luna and same question for GG G. Thanks
I do glycolic first then retinol, Sunday suggest Luna first then the lactic - from memory!!
Thank you Fairy God mother of skincare🙏🏻 I could cry when I found out good genes was gone and being reformulated! I’m going to buy it now, resting assured that it’s got your seal of approval ☺️🌹
Swear to Duran Duran??!!!! WTH? I’m in US and now I want what you have! I use Good Genes faithfully, but curious minds…..
Ah therein lies the problem LOL x

Caroline, if you have used this product... FARMACY
Honeymoon Glow AHA Resurfacing Night Serum with Echinacea GreenEnvy can you please do a quick review on your thoughts.
+mariyam khatoon Can you notice any depuffing? I want to buy the Nurse Jamie one, but I don't know if it's just a gimmick or not. 😂🤷🏻♀️
It depends if you’re actually going to use it? I don’t but them I’m lazy with tools.
Watch hair products especially with a fringe, cleanse face after washing hair, conditioner is a bitch to rinse off. This cured my daughters
So to find a good dermatologist probably is the correct advice :))
better than the OG?!!! This lady in the USA would love to try it..
Caroline can you suggest a good Mandelic acid product for at home use?
*now
Totally love lactic Good Genes, and I would definitely try the glycolic version (I am a rude American of a certain age). But here’s the problem I have with glycolics: they dry out the inside of my nose to the point where it’s painful. Anyone else have that problem? Or, am I just a flaming weirdo? I never get any other sort of irritation, other than the painfully dry nose.
What exactly is it about Lactic Acid that the people in Belgium don’t like?
I might have missed your point on this - isn't lactic acid also a humectant (and glycolic isn't)? I think that is in part why my skin loves it so much :(((
Hi Caroline....have you had a chance to try or look into the Ole henriksen glow cycle Retin-ALT serum and the goodnight glow Retin-ALT sleeping cream? Would love your opinion on those two products. Thanks!
Have you tried Farmacy Honeymoon Glow? How would it compare to theses since it's a blend? I love the sound of it!
Which do you find gives a better plumping effect?
Ok, I'm pretty dedicated to good genes but I can't use it every night so if the brand is watching, get it to Sephora asap for the holiday shopping season!!!
I loved how informative your video was! It gave me a better understanding on what I put on my skin. I just started watching your video, and look forward to the insight on ingredients and what it does for the skin! Thank you!
I’m curious, how would the glycolic version compare to the drunk elephant glycolic?
Is there silicon in the UK version? If there is does it have as much as the lactic version? I loved the effect of lactic in good genes, but the silicon made me break out.
I got the new one today. Never tried the old one. Do I put moisturiser on top? Can you use around the eyes it don't say?
So glad they asked you to do this. Sunday Riley from one Htowner to another please.... do both! I will run to buy it 🏃♀️
I have a question , if Good Genes isn't allowed to be sold in the EU due to lactic acid level and PH, does this mean that BP PIGM 400 isn't going to be sold also ? :-S In general , could you do a video on lactic acid products available in EU / Uk that have a high percentage of lactic acid and a good PH level ? Thank you xxx
Good Genes "G" vs. Pixi Glow Tonic? Obviously the GG is higher glycolic but........
I used many glycolic acid exforliators and never got the same effect even with the DCL penta peptide :(
SAME here :((((
I have a question on an aging skin that is just starting to suffer with acne spots because of menopause. My skin is still combination to dry but spots on my jaw line chin area. Which acid would you recomend? I've been using lactic but everything seems to agitate it. I'm at a loss with what to change with my skin care help ? (AGING IS Sooooo..... fun)
I hope Sunday takes into account what you had to say! I think your idea of bringing different acid formulas into Good Gene's is BRILLIANT.
Hi, thank you for this video. Do you know why Sunday Riley changed the formula for Ceramic Slip? I haven't tried the new formula yet but have just ordered it. I love the old version of Ceramic Slip so can't understand why they reformulated it.
I don’t but I’ll find out. X
Thank you so much for the reply. Looking forward to what you find out 😊
Yasmin Akther I was wondering the exact same thing about Ceramic Slip! Thanks for asking :)
I could listen to you all day! Ad or not, we get the facts. Thanks Caroline x
Thank you for the information! I hope that they offer the glycolic version in the US - my mid 40's skin needs a little stronger acid than lactic.
