@@kellismith4329 Both teams were not only stacked, but pumped! As a Canadian, I've never seen such a strong American side 👍 as a fan it was great viewing 🍻
John Leclair was one of ghe strongest players I've seen. When he hit people they just went flying. When people tried to hit him they just bounced off him. I also forgot that Lyle Odelein played for Team Canada in the tournament. He didn't play in the Sweden game. I always liked Lyle. Good, tough stay at home d-man.
2/3s of the legion of doom in their prime playing against each other for their country to be #1 in the world! lol wow as much as I hated Richter as a Devils fan, I’ve got to give him his due respect and credit! He took a Cup away from us in’94 and a gold medal 🥇 from Canada in ‘96! Mid 90s prime Richter was world class man! Thank God the Flyers beat him in 95 so we didn’t have to face him again lol!
Odelein was great for us in Jersey as well those few years we had him and he never backed down from anyone 🥊 wish he would’ve stayed to win a Cup with us but we needed to make those upgrades in ‘99, 00’ to win that Cup and rookie Colin White was just what we needed to compliment Brian Rafalski!
Both teams were stacked!!! It just popped up on my youtube and man did this bring back memories. I don't care if Canada lost, I even forgot, but what a f***ing awesome game!!!!
Richter was such an underrated goaltender during the 1990s. It's a shame he's only in the US Hockey Hall of Fame right now. He should be in the Hockey Hall of Fame as well too.
Granted, he never won an mvp or vezina but then again we are talking about 90's when possibly the 2 greatest goals to every play were in their primes, & winning championships. Not to menton guys like Vernon and Cujo who had epic single seasons in their own right.
That was some scary looking shit at the end seeing Lindros, Theo Fleury, Sakic and Claude Lemieux all out of character looking all sad and depressed and you can tell how much it means to them 😢 hockey in the US got a whole lot more popular after this game
:21 - Canada not asserting any physical dominance at the end of game two has America coming right out of the gate in game 3. 1:00 - This Scott Stevens didn't show up enough in this tournament. 1:28 - Weak ass goalie interference call on Claude Lemieux. 1:57 - That wasn't a hit by John LeClair it was Rod Brind'Amour bouncing off a brick wall. 2:47 - Same TERRIBLE coaching we saw with Alex Ovechkin through his entire career. On the power play him and Hull (both right handed shots) just stood over at that left wing face off circle and buried one timer after one timer for PP goals. Fuck that. Shadow them. Get a player to stand right beside him the ENTIRE power play and completely remove him as an option. Make a 5 on 4 power play a 4 on 3 power play. You have a better chance of killing that off. 3:56 - Mike Richter was USA's savior in these finals. 5:58 - They let 20 seconds of stick work, elbows and punches go between Coffey and Guerin but called that "goalie interference" penalty on Claude Lemieux earlier........... Nice and consistent. 7:14 - A move taught to Eric Lindros by an old junior coach named Jason Voorhees. He should have played like this more often. 7:42 - See "3:56." 8:44 - See "3:56." 9:14 - NASTY slash by Chelios on Coffey. 11:29 - Keith Tkachuk proving that even though they won this tournament, baseball was stlll "America's pastime." 14:17 - Nice hit by Stevens followed by a little spear. Seeing this in games 1 and 2 would have been nice. 19:27 - I think everyone in Canada thought this game was over when Adam Foote's shot made it's way into the net.................. 20:38 - One of the biggest opportunities of Claude Lemieux's career and he produces THAT. 20:56 - But it got WORSE for Claude here as he rifles the puck around the boards to....... WHO? He's in the corner with 2 players beside him, 1 player behind him, and another at the faceoff circle. He didn't shoot the puck hard enough to get it out, so who the fuck did he think was going to get to the puck other than USA's defenseman at the blue line? And It was a high stick and shouldn't have counted, but Canada got the off-side call so it evens out. 21:42 - I just have to point it out. Replay of the winning goal. Pause it right there and you can see Curtis jumping in the air with both feet off the ice as the puck is going in. Mike RIchter he was NOT. 22:50 - Wayne Gretzky' goes after the loose puck like a baby kitten and 5 seconds later the puck is in our net. 24:27 - DROP THE FUCKING PUCK 24:44 - Wayne Gretzky's has a chance to atone for his earlier play and fails. Eight seconds later the puck is in our net again. 26:00 - Everybody on the ice for the expected winning team playing like beer league Scott Stevens. I don't know if they had quit or were just completely defeated at this point, but this sequence of hockey leading up to the final goal was goddamn embarrassing.
Not to take from Joseph who played great, an all time best, & the hot hand; but Canada has poss the best goalie to ever play in the NHL producing farts on the bench in one of the biggest games in nation history. Just weird.
I was at that game. Best sporting event I ever attended. Play like that in 2023, you’re barred for life.
Back when hockey was played the way it was meant to be played
Mike Richter was amazing in this game.
One of the dirtiest, chippiest ,balls to the wall tournaments I've watched, including '72 Summit series
Yanks tested Coffey every shift this match, he was playing in pain and they were fully aware
@@moemanncann895 ya if you can’t beat ‘em at hockey you can always swing an axe

Richter won that series. His goaltending was some of the best of his career.
curtisjoseph couldn ever win the big game
Wow!! Was in Niagara Falls on the Canada side at a bar watching this game. Haven't seen video of it ever!! Great Game!!
Fucking legends in this game
I was always surprised Ludwig wasn’t picked for that US team
@@kellismith4329They probably had so many great players to choose from that they couldn't have them all.
Richter was on his head for the series culminating in this beaute.

Mmm, in '23 maybe hes thought of as underrated, but wasn't underrated at the time. Clearly, as team USA #1 in championship tourney.

1:23 Claude doing what he does best.
I didn't fully remember what happened but i knew that John Leclair would have at least been on the ice for the game winner.
Real hockey!! Fuck yes!!!
Miss those old rules when u could do slashings, crosscheking, and all nasty shit😮😢
wow, that was one of the top 5 hockey games in hockey history! Up and down action, intense battles, and USA comes out on top!
The pinnacle of hockey was the mid 90s

Brodeur top 10...best ever is a stretch
Noice
Get Gretzky off the ice...
He's retired
Curtis Joseph is not Fuhr. Garbage goaltending.
i agree if fuhr was younger at the time and he was the goalie he would of find a way to win that big game
Refereeing was horrible back then. I thought today was bad but damn how horrible back then.
