I would be afraid to come up with a product. I use to use wen as a co-wash then lock in the moisture with oil. I never got more compliments than using that. Not everything works for everyone but people are sue happy and now I must pay twice the amount. You could make a product that works for the majority of people but then you still need to deal with lawsuits.
@@timeforchange3786 people usually copy one another as well. I can not find anything on what was the cause of their hair fall from Wen or the FDA. If anyone knows what the FDA found please let me know. Could it be a case of not thoroughly cleansing the scalp. It is a cowash after all. Which is not wens fault entirely. They should put warnings on cowashes saying scalp must be properly clarified. Now that it is known. I loved Wen but I always switch my products around. Same with Divacurl. The girl with the initial Divacurl video had a zillion me-too comments underneath. If I ever made a product I would put warnings like the surgeon general.
I have been oiling my scalp for growth and moisture for many years now, since I stopped using hair grease. After watching a previous video of yours in which you said that it is more beneficial to oil at night, I have been oiling my hair only at night for almost a year or so, and I must say that I have seen a significant growth in my hair. I use a hair oil that has a mixture of avocado, grapeseed, castor, olive, amla, fenugreek, rosemary, licorice root, sweet flag, hibiscus, rose petals, alkanet, among other ayurvedic herbs. Thank you for the wealth of information that you share with us in this community.

I need to start incorporating oils into my haircare routine again. Because of the Twitter natural girlies who started the hair detox/no butters & no oils challenge, I stopped using oils and saw so much breakage in my hair. Now, after so many tears and exercising patience, I'm starting to regain some more health in my once damaged hair.
Why do many licensed hair stylists say no oils on your scalp? They say oil CANNOT moisturize or seal in moisture, as well as stimulate hair follicles in any phase. So, why are they saying this and what is correct?
I grew up not using one specific hair oil, it was used depending on various conditions of the weather, ur mood, health, scalp condition and season. So, the hair oil changed often. 3 favs of mine are Moringa, Amla and mustard seed oil. And we expressed gratitude before applying it. But don't overuse it curlfriends!💯
Favorite scalp product is a DIY grease that contains Blue Magic bergamont, olive oil, sunflower oil, coffee, fenugreek and sublimated sulphur. Only used on wash days and I have been itch and dandruff free since
Thanks for this. Im Post Menopause with an Autoimmune disease. I recently tried to heat train my hair, which is already fine. I decided against that idea and went back to my curls. Now the curls are looser, but yet, with many protein treatments, they're coming back. Now I used to wash my hair frequently, meaning every other day. The Menopause along with Rheumatoid Arthritis has caused my hair to be very dry. I used to be a hater of oils. Now I actually have started back using them and my hair is responding well to them. I have started doing twist outs, and washing only once a week, instead of daily

I have a question about the moisture cycle. I’m seeing not to “wet” the hair everyday because it can be damaging to the hair. How was it possible to have hair wet most of the time when folks used to have Jheri curls and the hair wasn’t damaged? Just curious. Thanks.

I've noticed that my hair may be in need of "end trimming" since my significant hair growth (no split end just tangling and loose strands at the ends). Nice video! Oil never hurt our scalp when growing up. Oils are in the hairdressers that our parents put on our scalp and hair, and it stayed moisturized until the next wash day, every 2 weeks. Exactly, you don’t need much. My mom let the hair air dry until damp, then greased the scalp & hair lightly and brushed through. And that would be the only product used on wash day. I’m looking forward to trying hairdressers again but, not for my “wash n go”. Peace and blessings! 🙏🏾❤️
The best oil for my scalp is the Curls Blueberry and Mint scalp treatment. My length doubled in 1 yr because I was consistent with wash day, deep conditioning, and scalp massages.
Who (if anyone) should oil their scalp? There's alot of conflicting information on UA-cam University about this. I don't suffer from dandruff or dry scalp flakes. However, I have done a sebum production test where I went 2 weeks without washing my hair and tested my scalp with tissue to see how oily it was. The results was very little, if any sebum residue. As a result think I have low sebum production and my hair growth might benefit from oiling my scalp. However, I've also heard that oiling your scalp can inhibit your body's own natural sebum production. Would I benefit from oiling my scalp? Is their anything I could do to inscrease sebum production? What do you think? This might be a good idea for a video.
I use Pattern's scalp serum treatment and its great. The serum will usually hydrate my scalp for three days, then its time to oil. As I Am itchy scalp oil is good when itchiness is a problem. Belle Bar organics garlic & onion oil is another favorite. Thanks for all you do. Keep up the good work!
I like JBCO and EVOO used separately. For a hair growth oil for non DIY people I like Mielle Rosemary Mint Scalp and Hair strengthening oil. Got it at CVS with a coupon! Has lots of things that I’ve heard on this channel promote hair growth AND a little goes a long way. Not to go off topic but I’m LOVING that cute hairstyle this week on you Tanya.
Interesting. For me, I had much better luck after I quit using oil on my scalp. It would cause bumps especially on the back of my head. My hair is a lot healthier now. I just use leave in conditioner. Oil was very counter productive for my scalp. Maybe that’s just me though.
My favorite oil is my DIY hair oil. Grapeseed Oil is my carrier oil Horsetail Grass, Peppermint, Rosemary, Clove, Thyme, Fenugreek, Castor oil, lemongrass, & evening primrose are my add ins 💕💕💕
I just started using Design Essentials Peppermint and Aloe Soothing Scalp Tonic. I have a very dry scalp and I have tried dozens of products. This one is my fav so far. By the way, does drinking water help with dry scalp?
Question: How do you keep blow dried hair moisturized. I don't always want to wear my hair in a twist or braid out. I would like to wear it blow dried more often but I don't understand how to keep my scalp and hair moisturized when blow dried. Also how long can in retain moisture blow dried before I need to wash it. Help!
I have an oily scalp and manage seborrheic dermatitis. I've been told to avoid applying oil and oil-based products directly on the scalp because it feeds the Malassezia fungus that's more sensitive to those with SD.
I also have severe SD and a dry, tight scalp, but I've found the only way to control it is but applying oil directly on my scalp. What oil(s) do you use?
@@farrahc7055 I don't use oils in my hair routine. There'll be oils in my hair products already and that's enough for my hair. I personally never liked using oils and the oils negatively affecting my scalp wasn't helping lol
I was told this for so long and it really depends on the state of your scalp, you can still have dry scalp and active fungus at the same time. if your fungus is controlled you can oil if it's dry etc
It has been reported that grease etc should not be on the scalp. And even the other oils you referenced should be put on the hair shaft. What is your thoughts on this?
I use my Ayurvedic oil...fenugreek, alma, brahmi, bringraj, henna, aloe, moringa, tulsi, hibiscus n curry..gives me instant relief. After wash day 2nd/3rd day my scalp gets so dry and itchy. Still don’t get it..I’m like it’s clean it shouldn’t be itchy. Going to apply right after DC, thank you for the tip!!
Same here... Try good old grease. It worked growing up until influencers convinced us otherwise. Also some of the ayurvedic herbs cause more dryness over time so I now prefer to drink them as teas. Hibiscus is my favourite
I do a DIY mixture of Pumpkin seed, tea tree, peppermint and Rosemary on my scalp as soon as I rinse out my deep conditioner. For sealing I use Black Castor and Olive oil. Question if I oil my scalp once a week is that bad?
I have seborrheic dermatitis and was told not to use too many essential oils by a derm, is there an oil that is good for itchy scalp and hair health? All the hair washing is not helping my hair so any info is appreciated!
My favorite oil for my scalp is the Jamaican Mango & Lime Pure Jamaican Black Castor Oil. Fantastic video Thank You for All of the Wonderful Information and Wisdom that you share🥰.
Ive noticed my scalp doesn't like oil? Is that normal? It gets really itchy after I apply it. I've noticed the best thing for me is to do an oil treatment nd just wash it off. Is that sufficient? Help🥺
Great video Tonya! I primarily use oils for scalp care, growth, and sealing in moisture. I fortunately have not suffered with itchy scalp or dandruff for years. My favorite oils to use are JBCO, coconut oil or sweet almond oil (to prepoo). I also currently have a DIY oil w/Henna Sooq Ayurvedic powder infused w/avocado oil for growth. Koils by Nature and Bask & Bloom each have an oil I have used and liked for scalp care and growth.
This was Super Helpful! Thank You CurlyChemistry!! Quick Question: Do you recommend sealing your hair with oil after using a gel. I use Ouidad Climate Control Heat and Humidity Stronger Hold Gel after using SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave In on my hair. When should I apply an oil to my hair strands during my styling process? Before the gel or after applying gel? 😊🙏🏽
Hello: I started using Rosemary & Mint scalp oil at night. The next day my scalp is dry like it wasn’t oiled. Why is my scalp soaking it up so quickly. Is this good or bad? Do I need to find another oil to use? Thank you.
Hello, Thank You for the video and content; it sounds like there is an echo in your video's, maybe sitting closer to your Mic will help. Have a great weekend.
I’ve been looking but I don’t see anyone saying how long should I keep it in is it okay for me to keep it in on my 8hr work shift then shampoo and conditioner when I get home
Confused now as some say to wash your hair daily to wash off the sebum that sits on our curly hair because it'll clog the pores on our scalp. So when do we reap the benefits of oiling our scalp if we are to wash our hair daily. They even said they've seen faster growth doing that method. But I love oiling my scalp, say 3x a week, plus Asian cultures oil their scalp frequently and they're ok.
I was gonna ask I’ve had problems with my crown for years it’s the coarsest part breaking tangling like damaged kinda hair I make sure l wash the middle part separate from the rest of my hair. I do have low porosity hair but this section is on another level. I really don’t know what I’m doing wrong and why it’s this way. I’ve never straightened my hair or used dyes heat none of that can you help in anyway??? Your help would be greatly appreciated 🙏💕
I have a combination oil that incorporated essentials and carrier oils. I use it only on the scalp then I apply the moisturizer (rose water w/ collagen) followed by a butter. Tremendous reduction in breakage and shedding. Thanks CC for these shorts.
I haven’t found the right oil for my scalp just yet. I’ve tried a lot of blends, tea tree, and rosemary. My hair just flakes right up and because very itchy. I plan on trying peppermint next though.
How do you treat a itchy scalp cause by oiling? I have tried several oils s on the scalp and boy does it itch. Please respond because when I oil my daughter hair too she experienced the same thing, excessive itching to the point she says mom don’t put oil on me
When you get outta the “scalp” 😂 A helpful video AS USUAL. What a gift of wisdom you are! Question? Do you need to apply water on your hair before adding a “moisturizer cream”? (Even if aqua is the first ingredient)
I have tried the Kuza hair grease. I don't oil my scalp alot, always forget on wash day. I an trying to come up with a plan so I don't miss a step. Making clove juice and Rosemary rinse as we speak.
I developed an itchy scalp for the first time in my life (28yo) after I moved to the US and was exposed to terribly hard water. One year later, it seems to have become a permanent condition, because my scalp was still itchy even after I spent one month back home, outside the US. Any tips on how to manage itchiness caused by hard water? I've already installed a shower filter that has helped with other symptoms (e.g. my dry hair had suddenly become oily at the roots), but the itchiness is not improving. Would tea tree oil help? Or something else? How and how often to use?
Very informative video. I have a question. I have a DIY mixture of oils that I use for my scalp with emphasis on my temples because they have thinning. I am not sure if it is the oil or something else but it seems like when I use oils on my temples my thinning looks worse after continuous use. Is it possible that oiling your scalp could have a negative effect on your hair, as in hair loss? I really only oil my scalp for hair growth, after washing my hair and making sure my scalp is cleansed I do not typically have an itchy or dry scalp. Your advice/response is greatly appreciated. I came here because I am trying to determine if I should stop oiling my scalp to see if I see a difference with my temple thinning. For reference I am natural and I do not wear any wigs, weaves or anything that would cause tension on my edges/temples any longer. Thank you! Sorry for the long comment.
Omg that makes so much sense re oiling on clean exfoliated scalp! I usually do it the 2-3 days PRIOR to wash day! Tks for explaining what each oil does, etc… I always learn so much from your vids. ❤
I'm new to this channel and found the content here very helpful. Quick question, what's the role of Shea butter/oil interms of PMP. Is it a Penetrating ingredient? Or Moisturiser?. .
Thank you!!! I love grape seed. My hair only likes dollar tree leave in conditioner. Low porosity hair ingredients glycerin and Shea butter. Only like few ingredients.
I just wish I knew why some say never oil your scalp, for instance Black girl curls says that. They say there’s no benefit in that. I’m grateful for your information but it can be confusing for new naturals. ❤
Hey y'all I need some help, I have bought most of the products from the low porosity video. I've also bought some herbs such as green tea and cloves to help with my shedding. I'll also purchase some coconut oil for my prepoo wash day. However I need steps on what to do first second, and third. I've also bought neeme, to help me with length retention as well. Also can anyone please tell me, if I could soak cloves in aloe vera juice and use it as a rinse?
I just started to oil my scalp after washing my hair in the shower, and I’m starting to notice the difference. My scalp is now less itchy and my hair feels soft and nourished. Thank you for that wonderful and important tip.
Doesn’t moisture come from water? I don’t oil my scalp or hair. The conditioners and moisturizers that I use already contain oils. I also wash, condition and style my hair every 4-5days since my hair usually dries out by then. This works for me but some might need to use oils.

Favorite oil is Mielle rosemary mint scalp and hair strengthening oil.
Rosemary oil is my fav🥰
Yes, rosemary is one of my favorites! :-)
Same!!❤
how do you mixed it. Thanks
How do you mix it?
@@LexiNc8284 just a few drops with a carrier oil (almond, olive, grape seed).
My favorite oil is my DIY hair oil.
Grapeseed Oil is my carrier oil
Horsetail Grass, Peppermint, Rosemary, Clove, Thyme, Fenugreek, Castor oil, lemongrass, & evening primrose are my add ins 💕💕💕
Jojoba oil is great for people with SD. It doesn't add to the oilyness and is closest to our naturally produced scalp oil.
@@shellym9504 i Will try. Thanks
I was told this for so long and it really depends on the state of your scalp, you can still have dry scalp and active fungus at the same time. if your fungus is controlled you can oil if it's dry etc
How do you remoisturize after your 2 days? Re-wet then add product and oil?
My fave scalp concoction is: Castor oil + peppermint oil/tea tree + fenugreek oil.
Scalp has never been healthier.
I like 100% lanolin as a scalp and hair lubricant.
I’ve never been this early. You look so pretty in this vid.
Thank you! :-)
I have itchy scalp. When I washed my scalp feel good but 20 minutes later. My scalp is itchy again
Castor oil and leaving my hair alone, works magic on it ❤
My favorite oil for my scalp is the Jamaican Mango & Lime Pure Jamaican Black Castor Oil. Fantastic video Thank You for All of the Wonderful Information and Wisdom that you share🥰.
Hey Tonya! 1st
Hey!! :-)
Olive oil.(Psalm 23:5)
Yess! 💜
Ive noticed my scalp doesn't like oil? Is that normal? It gets really itchy after I apply it. I've noticed the best thing for me is to do an oil treatment nd just wash it off. Is that sufficient? Help🥺
Yes! That’s fine! Always do what your hair and scalp responds best to. ☺️
@@CurlyChemistry thank you🥺❤
And I like 100% Rosemary oil & 100% tree tea oil.💯💯🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍
Great video Tonya! I primarily use oils for scalp care, growth, and sealing in moisture. I fortunately have not suffered with itchy scalp or dandruff for years. My favorite oils to use are JBCO, coconut oil or sweet almond oil (to prepoo). I also currently have a DIY oil w/Henna Sooq Ayurvedic powder infused w/avocado oil for growth. Koils by Nature and Bask & Bloom each have an oil I have used and liked for scalp care and growth.
Thanks Tonya, we appreciate your scientific approach. Please see my email regarding purchase of your products. 🤩♥️
Coco Nibs and Honey oil by Camille Rose
Thank you for sharing!
Just arrived for the video...yay!
Yay! Glad you’re here! ☺️
Can you talk about how we can better take care of of skin/ face. What product are good for black skin.
Please respond because when I oil my daughter hair too she experienced the same thing, excessive itching to the point she says mom don’t put oil on me
I like the DIY aloe Vera oil and pumpkin seed oil
Beautiful combination!
Can you leave oil on your scalp after washing? What is the best carrier that won't clog pores on an itchy scalp. So far, nothing is really working.
Happy Friday Queen 🌹 I love ethnic gals miracle oil for my scalp
Love it!
My absolute favorite oils are rosemary oil, rosemary essential oil, and carrot oil.
When you get outta the “scalp” 😂
A helpful video AS USUAL. What a gift of wisdom you are!
Question? Do you need to apply water on your hair before adding a “moisturizer cream”? (Even if aqua is the first ingredient)
Thank you sis! And no you don’t unless you want that extra moisture from the water spritz. Either way is completely fine!
Thank you for answering my question beautiful!!
I only use oil doing a pre-poo or as a hot oil treatment, grease works better for my hair and on my scalp.
JBCO!!! Love the video as I always!
Thank you! 💜
I use almond oil or sulfur 8 on my scalp.
Rosemary stops itchy scalp
I love peppermint and rosemary in avocado and olive blend carrier oil
Yea tree oil with jojoba is my absolute fav and works so well for my hair
I’m so confused, people like Cyndoll says not to apply oil to the scalp, no idea what to do now.
Neem oil!
I'd see a dermatologist
🦋Can having henna-dyed hair and using olaplex...damage hair?
No you should be fine, however everyone’s hair responds differently to everything, so I would space them out between treatments if you could.
Thanks for responding🌿🙏❤️🤲🙂🌿...we seemed to have messed up and trying to fix it
I'm new and using veganic oil what do u think bout this oil
Is it good to oil your hair and scalp every day for hair growth
My favorite is Nature's Blessing Pomade
Question: If you want both growth AND moisture, should you use the suggested oils on different "oil days"?
Jojoba for scalp and avocado oil for hair
Listen to her she knows her stuff! I use the pattern serum and Rosemary hydrosol on my wash day and my scalp has never felt better!
is the rosemary hydrosol by Pattern?
To answer your question I love Jamaican black castor oil my last relaxer was in July I'm thinking about maybe waiting until next summer before I get another one I want to see how much my hair grows between now and next summer 2023 without a relaxer I was thinking about purchasing the cards for hair care even though I have a consistent hair care routine will the cards benefit me if I'm not natural
Definitely rosemary 🌿❤❤
