    I’ve had one of these for over 2 years and agree that it is a good product. I use it with an extra extension for cutting the summer growth from the top of fruit trees, though it is very unwieldy and fairly tiring. Less risky than ladders though. The blades have two sections, the one nearer the base has a deeper comb for dealing with thicker wood, the other is for lighter twigs. The optional plastic’Hedgesweep’ bar for the back of the blade is quite effective for moving cut pieces away, particularly from the top of hedges.

      Thanks D.B., some interesting info there. A friend who used the extra extension with the ryobi pole saw made similar comments about how unwieldy it became.

    Thanks for the review, I have several Ryobi 18V tools for landscaping work around the house. Last year trimmed down 3 big Oak tress with 18V Ryobi pole saw I have for several years, now I need to shape them nicely with pole hedger, got one electric cheap wired but go to be heavy really and I don't have long ladder, this is perfect for me, since I have charger and 7 batteries, just need to get the tool only. I can extend up to 12' with my pole saw extension on this one so I can reach the top of the trees. Thanks love Ryobi tools

    Very good demo you made of the product. The machine cuts fine. Personally I do not like the way it is extended. I find the stepless extensions much better, a shame Ryobi have not made that. Several other brands have been making the stepless extenders for years. I have owned both types, and definitely an advantage with the stepless, at least for my hedge.

    • @bigtedshome
      @bigtedshome  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the feedback. I can see your point about having to extend in 90cm increments. I find it to be a simple, robust way of extending the pole that works well for me but can appreciate that a telescopic style extension would offer more flexibility.

      As an electrical engineer, it really irritates me that they never state the motor power in Watts for these cordless trimmers. They just state the voltage implying that 40v will be more than twice as powerful as 18v which is not necessarily the case. The mains version of this states the power as 450W, is this one more or less powerful? There is no way to tell from the voltage alone! Even the petrol versions often state the power in Watts!

    I have several +one tools. Love them! No issues in 4+ years. I buy the brushless version when available.
    My question, I have the chain saw with the pole extension and was wondering if the trimmers are interchangeable and available without the pole, as 2 are not necessary?

    • @bigtedshome
      @bigtedshome  2 роки тому

      Yes, the fittings are the same. I've not seen the trimmer head available separately though.

      Thanks for commenting. Personally, I don't find the weight of the Ryobi hedge trimmer a problem ( it is much lighter than my old petrol pole hedge trimmer). Looking at the specs on amazon, the Bosch is only 240 g (

    I m a bit reluctant to use cordless power tools because of battery life.i have had to throw them away.even a home base representative said to me , they have got you over a barrel because once they stop recharging,,it's another 50 quid.Please Advise

    • @bigtedshome
      @bigtedshome  2 роки тому +1

      I've got 6 ryobi cordless tools and 2 batteries which I swap between them. One is a genuine ryobi battery, the other is a generic one bought from amazon. Both are about 3 years old and still going strong. Personally, I wouldn't go back to corded tools and when my petrol mower dies I will be replacing it with a battery powered mower. Most tradesmen use cordless tools these days (mostly makita). Everyone's circumstances are different but I would go for cordless tools over petrol or mains powered. Hope this helps.

    have you used the extra extension from your pole saw? I've got a big conifer and need it longer I've not used mine yet but thought the extra pole might snap with the weight

    • @bigtedshome
      @bigtedshome  3 роки тому

      I haven't had to use an extra extension pole with this hedge trimmer so far. I think I would be more worried about being able to handle the extended pole safely rather than the pole snapping. From experience of using a 24ft window cleaning pole, try to keep the pole as vertical as possible.
