  • If you own a Native Instruments Z2 and ever wondered how you can make the mini Innofaders that are installed just as smooth as the Magvel faders in a Pioneer DJM-S9 - here is the solution. It's simple, but takes some skill. Oh, and you will definately loose your warrenty on the mixer. If you try this mod, do it at your own risk!
WARNING! There is a little tiny spring at the bottom of one of the two black plastic bricks that hold the rails. DO NOT LOOSE IT! After you have reassembled the rails (one with the rubber rings), thhe slider and the two black bricks, and have put this back into the black metal housing you have to make sure that you put the tiny spring back into the hole. Otherwise the rails will have no contact with the board and you will have reoccuring sound drop outs.
Also, you need to re-solder that middle foot onto the board to make sure that the metal housing is connected to the board. Otherwise you will suffer from sound dropouts.

Did you try your mini Innofader after you did this mod? Because by yanking the circuit board out, you are breaking the ground connection of the PC board. The result is the audio cutting sound will stutter multiple times every time the mini Innofader crosses the cut point and won't be clean at all. If you do this mod, you need to unsolder the ground connection then resolder it.
Another thing: Please notice around 3:17 there's a small spring sticking out of the mini Innofader on the bottom left. You didn't say anything about this spring. Again if it falls out, it will cause the same stuttering problem.
Please if you can fix this video. I'm starting to get many complaints from customers about cuts suddenly not being "clean" after they do mods like this.
We put the spring in there because without it the fader might slide on its own. This would be a disaster in some club situations where the bass causes the table to shake. But to make this easier for customers looking to attempt this mod, we are thinking of offering these faders as standard without the built-in spring as an option. We've heard this feedback from many people like yourself.

      HI Elliot,
thanks for your comments. I actually do mention the tiny spring at the bottom. I mention it when I put the fader back together.
Sofar, I haven't noticed any sound cut outs at all. I even installed this Innofader in a Vestax 06pro VCA and it works perfectly!

Hi Elliot, I put another warning into de description regarding the tiny spring and the metal foot that needs to be resoldered to the board.

Any update on if you'll offer it without the tension spring? I'd love to have one in my S9 but the mini in my raiden mixer feels tad too stiff so that's the only thing that's putting me off getting one in my S9
Would buy one in a heartbeat if it came without the spring tension installed

@@NastyRhythm I have been using the Innofader now without the spring for a couple of months and I actually find it a little too loose.

@@DJServiceFrankfurt interesting. I personally prefer an ultra smooth and loose fader. Only mixer I've used that had the best feel was the Ecler Hak 360
