It made me feel the same way I felt when I used to look at gems as a kid. The deep desire to possess it not because it is expensive, but because it is beautiful and flawless.
Admit it; you’re 1/4 magpie on your mama’s side. You just need it because it’s shiny.
I have the same urge about most pretty things
I have the urge to steal shiny things, especially clear things like glass and crystal. Even plastic 😃
I'm pretty sure it's that beauty and flawlessness that made stones expensive in the first place
@@jollimaiahtacksworthYeah, and they are worth every cent that they cost
This is absolutely BREATHTAKING. The reveal at the end doesn't even look like it could be real life, it looks like a 3d model
I was thinking along similar lines! I felt my breath catch when we saw it finished and just so beautiful! Breathtaking is a very apt word
i like that he doesn't hide any of the imperfections at the end. you can see the faces with 6, 4, and 18 have imperfections on the numbers and on the faces numbered 15 and 7 you can see imperfections on the dice itself. gives it some character and lets you know it's not some perfect 3D printed object made out of perfectly consistent materials. a person made it out of a stone. cool that it doesn't look perfect.
I was thinking the same as well, looks more like 3d render, such a great job with this one
Yay, 1,000th like. 😊
Speaking of 3D models, It would be pretty awesome if you would release an STL of the D20 model for Resin printing.
i scrolled past this a couple times and SO GLAD i finally went "yeah alright fine" and clicked
god i love seeing a master of their craft make creating something this beautiful look as easy as breathing
same!
Hahahahaha that’s how it got me
Somewhere in my brain, it makes sense that D20s were originally carved or sculpted (and that they're not all made of resin) but actually seeing the process is mind blowing. It's so neat to see all the instruments and tools that go into making them
fun fact throughout history lots of dice including d6s were carved from bone

Glad to see Im not the only one who thought this!
I don't think I've ever seen such a clear topaz, or maybe just never seen one polished so well. That's amazing.
The way the light dances and reflects off the surfaces is absolutely magical. Well done.

Absolutely beautiful

It should be illegal to use Clair de Lune when creating things so beautiful. It literally holds you ransome as you dive into a trance from the mastery being displayed in front of you. Awesome work man, its absolutely stunning.
Uh sir this is a wendys
Agreed. It was an inspired choice to accompany a piece that shines like a star in the night sky with a piece titled Moonlight.
i gotta say dude, this d20 is absolutely stunning, and i can hardly believe that topaz could be so clear and sparkly. i don't know the first thing about gemcraft, but i can still appreciate how much precision and effort must go into making these works of art,
Fun fact! Topaz is naturally quite clear like this. The many varieties of colored topaz we see in stores is induced using chemical/biological reactions. One of the most common is to irradiate the stones, (This is why if you were to take a Geiger counter into a jewelry store, any colored topaz would register as having a very minimal radiation signal.)
its actually called faceting! not gemcraft, although that name is very cute
People like you are why the internet was invented. Bringing together a comparatively tiny population of enthusiasts and enabling brilliance like this is just awesome.
Every now and again UA-cam recommends me a true artisanal video. I have literally no interest in dice but I could watch a 100 of these videos. Really beautiful! Keep up the amazing work and thanks for sharing with the wider world.
oh my gosh, a whole video about making a whole dice set would be stunning, You make such incredible work and I'm always mesmerized by the process and finished result! you make it look so easy despite my clear knowledge that it WOULDN'T be!
That one looks SPECTACULAR! I didn’t even know people could just buy topaz that big and unblemished, wow
According to Breath of the Wild, topaz is common AF.
Edit: just to clarify, I was thinking amber when I wrote this. Opps.
@@meeponinthbit3466Topaz grows wild in Hyrule, but we currently have an embargo on imports from Hyrule due to Ganondorf exceeding UN gloom emissions standards.
@@Merennulli Damn, didn't realize that had passed That totally explains why I can't find anyone that'll ship me Chuchu jelly too.
Topaz is such a common stone that its really not that surprising
I remember as a child I had a rock that looked almost identical that I got from a science museum. I don't know if it actually was topaz but it was pretty damn similar in appearance.
And here, we see precisely why topaz is so highly sought after.
Absolutely gorgeous.
How can you tell if its topaz or quartz? I think it looks exactly the same as quartz....
@@sapphiretoffee1100 topaz has a significantly higher refractory index, so light shines through it much more.
@@Thrillrider10 oooooo that's so cool! Thanks for the info :D
@@Thrillrider10 Quartz has a refractive index of 1.544-1.553 and topaz of 1.609-1.643, you wouldn't be able to tell with the naked eye. This could be quartz, glass or topaz. If it cuts glass, then it's topaz as it's hardness is 8, quartz won't cut glass.
@@terabyte3763 quartz can go as low as 1.4
i love to watch this while Clair de Lune is playing, and the result is beautiful
I make DnD dice out of epoxy but also have a love of gems and stones and watching your videos just brings me straight dopamine to my brain. Thank you for sharing your craft.
Products like this simply made out of things like topaz or quartz make me question why people are willing to spend so much on something like a diamond when you can find something with a similar composition that will look just as beautiful. Love your stuff, keep it up. :)
There is a category of products known as "Vleben goods" which exist *solely* to demonstrate the wealth of the owner/purchaser. They are usually, of course, the highest quality that can possibly be produced, but more than that, they are *needlessly* expensive, to the point that their expense is their fundamental feature, and their greatest appeal to a certain type of person.
It’s a flex
Diamonds won't break or scratch. Other gemstones will, but can be avoided. But yeah, diamonds are overrated. I checked his website and he explains to be careful when rolling his dice to avoid breaking them on hard surfaces. I would still love to have one though, this is amazing
@@Alchemist09 fun fact, they do burn
@thehoodedteddy1335 just checked it on UA-cam. That's pretty wild. I never thought about it, but it makes sense since it's carbon.
Have you ever considered leaving a half finished die in the stone? After you get your initial flat and finish cutting in the geometry of the die, leaving it in the rest of the unfinished stone and only polishing some of the faces to give a “die trapped in stone” kind of look. It could be stood up as a paperweight/desk bauble and I think it would look incredible
That sounds super cool!
4:35 ive heard this background music so many times its so calming and nice, also thats a good dice.
It's called claire de lune if you were wondering
I have always been into rocks and gemstones ever since I was 9 and seeing what you can carve them into blows my mind away. and this is 1 out of millions of shapes that it could have been, yet each rock is so unique within an icosahedron and can tell so much about someone's personality. I would love to see more of this and wish to learn from this. 😊
YOU ROLLED IT!! AAHH that was beautiful. You have no idea how much it added for me seeing it roll. This is also probably my favorite one so far! No wait maybe the Amethyst... ahhh they're all so good!
Honestly I make these in the hopes they will be rolled. I had to roll that darn die like 200 times to get good looking rolls in camera.
@hedronrockworks and we all Thank you kindly, sir! The turn out was breathtaking. Thank you for sharing your passion and craft
How many good records did you have to drop because they were 1s? lol
@@hedronrockworks is it hard for any of these d20s you made to chip when throwing?

Thank you very much
I can't help but think dice carved from semi precious stones have got to be magical ❤
The dedication to your craft is a thing of beauty, I'd say on par with the sparkles this die creates
i recently discovered your channel and your videos never fail to entertain me. Theres something so peaceful watching someone make somthing so beautiful.
Right?
People who say diamonds are a girl's best friend clearly haven't seen this gorgeous piece of art.
That turned out very well. As a gamer, UA-camr, and CNC hobbyist, I enjoyed watching the manufacturing process and seeing the glorious D20 you ended up with. Thank you for sharing the journey.
Gemstone cutting and faceting is so fascinating. Thank you so much for making this video and sharing the process with us!! I love the shot where you show the light patterns traveling through the stone! :D
As both a gamer and a hobbyist faceter...I'm doubly in awe of your creations.
The craftsmanship, not only for the stone, but for the video is absolutely incredible. It's a beautiful process to watch each and every time and the final product is absolutely stunning! Something almost therapudic about watching and I'm curious of making it has a similar effect
It does. Sometimes I listen to a book on tape and just zone out. Other times I just listen to the machine.
it's pretty cool that such an ancient art is still awe inspiring to us
Holy cow, this is so beautiful, it doesn't even look real
Im always amazed at the start, the point where you look at your stone and how you can "see" the dice already inside. I think that is the most impressive point of your videos, art and skills.
Its fascinating watching your journey on revealing your image and bringing the dice to light
Its a human trait that has existed all the way back to the Palaeolithic era when people were knapping flint into tools by breaking of just the right bits that at the final hit you get the tool shape popping off in one piece. The ability to visualise just which angles you need to process (whether by percussion like flint or grinding like here) a block into the desired object is just incredible. Plus really cool that its stayed with humans for so long.
seeing the potential in what is still raw, and emerging the beauty and meaning with dedication and sweat, sharing with the world, this is definitely art!
I love how each face lights up fully as it rotates. It's like looking at Christmas lights.
Came for the geology; stayed for the music. Stunning to both.
Absolutely brilliant. Thanks for sharing!
So not only is the product completely stunning in its beauty, the video _itself_ is also very, very well done.
The crystalline dice works really well with Claire De Lune playing in the background. Very nice.
Wow. The ending, finale.. Is a finale. Beautiful. It must feel great to create such beaty.
Not only are you creating an amazing product but the video itself is so high quality! Cut, music, voiceover and picture quality. Truely a pleasure to watch your work!
Your dice just keep getting prettier, keep up the great work! It's really cool to see the process behind making them
This dice somehow looks like the most high end 3D animation I ever saw. Just it is real and not animated what makes it blow my mind 🤯
I find it amazing you can be that accurate by hand. The star-shaped bevels at the joining of every 5 numbers is crazy...
Wow. What a pleasure to watch. Thank you for sharing!
Best recommendation that UA-cam has ever given me. What an amazing process to see. I'm always fascinated by other mediums outside of wood. I've wanted to try my hand at making these type of dice in wood but have not done enough research on how to go about it. With that said you did a fantastic job on this. The close ups of all of the facets and the beauty of the material is just outstanding. So happy I got to watch this.

@@helentee9863 that looked like sand blasting, but I could be wrong
Stunning. I also feel video games and wrongfully lead me to think topaz are more of a gold tint. But that looks crystal clear, just absolutely beautiful. Nicely done
There is variety in color. At high-end gem shows they also sell sapphire rainbows from synthetic sapphire that go red-orange-yellow-green-blue-purple and back to red over like 30 stones.
I think this would be considered silver topaz but a lot of topaz is yellow !
There's a rare black topaz that my local rock shop sells. Tons of possibility.
I think for colored Topaz, sun exposure can reduce color vibrancy, but not sure
From ancient times to the Middle Ages, the name topaz was used to refer to any yellow gemstone.
And Topaz as a silicate mineral of aluminium and fluorine is often a yellow (Nov. Birthstone) or light blue (Dec birthstone) based on which impurities are present when it's forming. But it's popular to heat treat it to emphasize the color and develop it to a more golden yellow, blues are usually enhanced by using irradiation and heat treating. While it CAN naturally be pink or red, that's VERY rare and most Topazes those colors are a result of heat treating. When Topaz has a reddish, orangeish, or pinkish hue it's referred to as "Imperial Topaz", the pinkish tones in some stones are prone to fading in prolonged, bright sunlight.
Or, and this is fairly common in mid to low end jewelry stores, they'll sell something called "Mystic Topaz" that's a clear Topaz that's been treated with metal vapor so it sparkles with greens/pinks/purples. This is often used to mimic Alexandrite. But since this is just a surface layer, it can be scratched off or damaged with cleaning, though it does look pretty while it lasts (you can google it.)
But it's real trick is it's VERY dense, much denser than glass, it will happily sink when quartz or citrine (other clear to pale yellow stones) or aquamarine (pale blue beryl) is floating and depending on the specific stone, Topaz can have a higher SD than Diamond. It's also takes a much finer polish than quartz.
