Yippeeee for me!!! I just bought tickets for their show in Memphis this fall!!! There is not a group out there that has brought me more smiles than the B-52's!
One of my favorite songs and videos by the Athens, GA New Wave legends. I always look at this and see that they must have had such a nice time with the folks there. I wanna go down there and get some of those good vibes. There's a very big communion between all those great Athens bands like The B-52's, R.E.M. Pylon, etc. It's unlike where I'm at in NYC where all the bands are competitive.
Well put. Fantastic vocal harmonies is right. I think my favorite is the blend on that line from 1:05-1:08 (& whenever it repeats). Then I love the sudden unison on "rain" (at 1:22, and later).
A fabulous track: beautiful harmonies; great lyrics and the video really compliments it. I never really could understand why Love Shack was the single from the album and not this. One of the best songs the B52s ever did.
I fell in love with this song when I went on a road trip in early 1990 to Athens with a friend who was attending the wedding of a friend in the music scene there. The song is filled with references to stuff in the town. For instance, "Normaltown" refers to suburban Athens, which is demarcated by the local K-Mart (assuming it is still even there). Allen's was the local watering hole and apparently beer is just a buck now nearly 20 years later. Mike Stipe of REM also makes a cameo here.
I really love this song... I cannot understand why people don't like it... My friends say that this song and video are really boring, and that the band sucks :(. What perfect lyrics, I say. What a great melody, I feel it... I would like having been a teenager when this band originated.
The west side K-Mart is a Hobby Lobby now and the east side K-mart is still around, but that whole area is really expanding, so it could go at any time. The old Allen's is gone but they changed locations. Gonna miss the christmas lights downtown this year, later days Athens.
My friend used to work in radio in Athens GA and really went to Allen's for 25 cent beers. Even in '96 when I finally made it to town it was still a cool place to be even if my pal was long gone to "MinnySoda" by then.
Mine too!! Tho I've got a def soft spot for: Roam, Planet Claire and Private Idaho. I would mention their breakthrough track-Rock Lobster also, but I've heard it a few too many times-Haha. Peace :)
There were 3 singles from 'Cosmic Thing': "Love Shack", "Roam", and "Deadbeat Club", which hit No. 3, 3, and 30 on the Billboard chart respectively. A fourth single, the title track, was considered but ultmately didn't come out.
Sorry to intrude on your life but I used to do the same thing to the first two albums. Yes, I said albums and yes I'm old but I also had a great mirror in my room too. I WAS FRED!! My sisters were Kate and Cindy when I could convience them. Where are they now as I still dance around the house?
This is a terrific song from an album full of terrific pop songs and I don't mean to sound disparaging by calling it pop, but "Cosmic Thing" is about as perfect as pop gets. Kate and Cindy's voices were never better than on this album.
The B-52s are so fucking hip that if they stepped out of this video and on to the streets of any major city, showed up at any bangin' club, they'd still be WAY cooler than anyone around.
I belong to the deadbeat club, Cleveland chapter. Come to think of it, the whole goddamn city belongs to the club. Nobody around here seems to work. Regardless, it is rather nice getting up at 9 in the morning everyday.
Great song, but Fred Schneider kind of kills it sticking his head out of that convertible and uttering "Deadbeat Club" like a bi-polar on some mood stabilizer drug. Check out "Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland".....their best song and video in my opinion!
I can't believe that Love Shack only made it no. 3. It was SO huge when it came out. Not that no. 3 is something to sneeze at. That's just an expression.
I'm 45 and retired. It's great. I can sleep in tomorrow. No alarm clocks for me! "But how do you spend your days Jim?" Anyway I want to. I don't have to answer to some unsavory boss.
I love it too. I'm a deadbeat. I wear $950 english shoes, own a mercedes s 600 and don't work. It's nice getting up at 8 or 9 in the morning everyday. People who work are kidding themselves. They are just suckers!
Yippeeee for me!!! I just bought tickets for their show in Memphis this fall!!! There is not a group out there that has brought me more smiles than the B-52's!
This is by far one of their best songs ever. It's amazing!
I love so many of their songs and videos, but this is my absolute favorite.

I like this video and his song,i believe that this video is a treasure of music during the 80`s

I haven't heard this song in ages...Thanks! Sends me back in time to high school...
A fabulous track: beautiful harmonies; great lyrics and the video really compliments it. I never really could understand why Love Shack was the single from the album and not this. One of the best songs the B52s ever did.
I LOVE this band!!!! I remeber when Cosmic Thing came out-- those were the days-- i had my own "deadbeat club"-- awesome memories
I'm a member of the deadbeat club, Cleveland chapter.
I spend my days eating donuts and listening to you tube of course.
the harmonies are beautiful
Killer song, so original, so overlooked! Ah, the 90's! Nobody sounds like them!!!
I love "Deadbeat Club", my personal fave from the band. I love the harmonies and the lyrics - the band looking back on their beginnings.
This is one of my favorite music videos by the B-52's. :) I love the way they portrayed here, especially Cindy. :) Keith looked hot here. :)
Great band, great song. Michael Stipe on the couch at 1:37 Thanks for posting!
i adore this song im so excited to see them back
She looks so stunning driving in that convertible. Such an eclectic look throughout the video.

A sad tune for reminicing about the past. has to be one of the classic albums and this is one of the classic tracks on that album.
My friend used to work in radio in Athens GA
and really went to Allen's for 25 cent beers. Even in '96 when I finally made it to town it was still a cool place to be even if my pal
was long gone to "MinnySoda" by then.
Just saw them live - I finally got to meet Keith and I got to kiss him on the cheek- he was like Elvis to me when I was a kid- They sounded great!
I heard "Funplex" on the radio this morning. It was great. Look out world, they may do it again...
I love this song, this is a best goup of all the times
"...we'll dance in the garden in torn sheets, in the rain..." beautiful!

Mine too!! Tho I've got a def soft spot for: Roam, Planet Claire and Private Idaho. I would mention their breakthrough track-Rock Lobster also, but I've heard it a few too many times-Haha. Peace :)
The best B-52´s song ever !
Yes. They are all friends from Athens, Georgia.
B-52's baby!!!! One of my all-time faves...A more serious side of the band...
There were 3 singles from 'Cosmic Thing': "Love Shack", "Roam", and "Deadbeat Club", which hit No. 3, 3, and 30 on the Billboard chart respectively. A fourth single, the title track, was considered but ultmately didn't come out.
I love this song...I wonder how Kate and Cindy sing those high notes?
I love this song!
great moments that i remember with this song.
OMG thanx for sharing it love your story, i mean its sad but its so ahhh i dont know how to say it but thanx for sharing it
amazing song!!!!
Fair play! Good luck to you! Ireland!!
does anyone notice the head of REM at 1:21 ??? Athens Georgia. I've always loved this song. Makes me so so sentimental for my time in high school.
B52's are my fave group ever. And that's saying something given my heart is in 80's synth pop, late 70's punk and noughty's Slipknot.
i love it!!!
Lovely song, with or without the video. I'll always remember remember Cindy lying on the couch and singing to us.
I love the fact that this is considered their serious side!!!
definantly my fave!!!!
Esta cancion me trae recuerdos de cuando te conocí..Mi vida, tanto tiempo¡¡¡¡
I was thinking more like pagliacci in the bonfire scenes. And Cyndy too. I love the shot of her at 4:23. Stunning.
HA! So that WAS Michael Stipes!!!! I thought I saw him. GOTTA LOVE REM and B52's!
Sorry to intrude on your life but I used to do the same thing to the first two albums. Yes, I said albums and yes I'm old but I also had a great mirror in my room too. I WAS FRED!! My sisters were Kate and Cindy when I could convience them. Where are they now as I still dance around the house?
Together with "Roam" the best Song on the album "Cosmic Thing"! I love this harmonic vocals!

Lindo recuerdo de cuando te conoci..Te amo
one of my favorites from B52's....=)
so awesome
This is a terrific song from an album full of terrific pop songs and I don't mean to sound disparaging by calling it pop, but "Cosmic Thing" is about as perfect as pop gets. Kate and Cindy's voices were never better than on this album.

This song is my anthem.
This is my favorite too. :)
Have you ever heard of Lawrence Welk?
i have always wondered who the guy is at 1.19 he has amazing eyes
Anyone have a live vid of this song by this band?
Is that Michael Stipe at 1:21? I know REM are from Georgia too, so maybe? Peace :)
I don't know what some of you are talking about....."Deadbeat Club" is my FAVORITE B-52's song and video.
Any vids around of this song being done live?
Que lindo recuerdo..AMORCITO, te Amo
never realized Michael Stipe was in this video. I thought this was more in early 90's wasn't it?
Just my opinion, but this is the best B-52s song ever....
Without losers, there would be no winners like I'm sure you are. Your so important, that's why you spend your time on this site.
GREAT SONG. Video different somehow than how I imagine the song but great.
Where was she (Sandra Bullock) in that video?
Martha Quinn at 4:48
Sure looks like him! Athens music scene, so why not?
Love Cindy in the brown wig.
Great song from the B52's. It makes you realise that there is a God and there is hope for humanity.
The B-52s are so fucking hip that
if they stepped out of this video and on to the streets of any major city, showed up at any bangin' club, they'd still be WAY cooler than anyone around.
i worked at kfc as a late teen and listened to this song in the back with my co-workers. we were the deadbeat club!
Love Kates expression at 0:05
I'm not just a member, I'm the president! :)
I'd kind of have to agree.
hmm, I would tend to think yes
its Keith Strickland their gutarist
Cindy's got the soul voice, baby.
Does still play music__?
Is it me or does Fred have a Michael Madsen thing going on in this video?
Tarantino should have put him in Reservoirs Dogs...
I was going to post your comment! you beat me to it! "i could talk a mile a minute!"
I belong to the deadbeat club, Cleveland chapter. Come to think of it, the whole goddamn city belongs to the club. Nobody around here seems to work. Regardless, it is rather nice getting up at 9 in the morning everyday.

Check out "Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland".....their best song and video in my opinion!
3.54 and keith just looks so dreamy lol
this song was actually pretty cool...it was like the b-52's were sort of in a mode of the go go's!!! Belinda Carlisle could easily cover this!
I can't believe that Love Shack only made it no. 3. It was SO huge when it came out. Not that no. 3 is something to sneeze at. That's just an expression.
this reminds of the cover of the "goo" album from sonic youth dunno why...
I don't know why, but this song makes me wanna dance in torn sheets in the rain.hhmmm
We'll dance in the garden in torn sheets in the rain
I'm 45 and retired. It's great. I can sleep in tomorrow.
No alarm clocks for me! "But how do you spend your days Jim?" Anyway I want to. I don't have to answer to some

Was That Gordon Ramsay at 0:59 ??
I love it too. I'm a deadbeat. I wear $950 english shoes, own a mercedes s 600

People who work are kidding themselves. They are just suckers!
