The GWS Slowstick was some of the most fun I have had with RC. It helped that I was new to the hobby when I had them but you could fly them anywhere, they were cheap, easy to make way over powered and still could fly for 45 minutes or more on a 2200mah 3 cell. I had one that I used to drop water balloons. Would spend hours flying at the park by my parents house dropping water balloons at a hula hoop.
My yard is decent sized but not big enough for a fast rc plane so I have been thinking about picking up a slow stick. I like the eflite vapor because it is extremely slow but I don't know how it would be outside. This looks nice but maybe a little to fast. Right now I have a WLtoys cessna that is actually pretty cool for a cheap chinese crap plane. It is easy to fly and extremely durable. Not bad for $60.
Heck, yeah. I used to work at the largest LHS in my area back when electric was just coming out for planes. I think a Futaba balsa and monocoat geared 400 was my first, but the GWS slow-stick was one of my absolute favorites. It was easy to control, could fly at a walking pace with a light breeze, easy to repair, easy to assemble and with those tiny GWS receiver and servos it was just a blast to fly. I really kind of miss the early days of electric RC.
I had a few of them. I flew them with LensRc Brushless Motors. We knew all the tricks with it, like trimming the elevator to allow max rudder throw for indoor flying, or moving the rudder hinge. Adding a carbon fiber rod leading edge. Fun times.
We had so much fun with all the GWS sticks. But especially the Pico and the Cub sticks. At first we flew them with nicads and nimhd. Then the Qualcom lipo batteries started showing up. They were heavy, but they gave these sticks 30-40 min flight times with the brushed motors. When we added CD Rom brushless motors, the fun really started!
The Beauty of this airplane is it's simplicity and its versatility. So many upgrades can be done to this airplane for next to nothing. Great video Brother. And thumbs up to Wifey for her support.
I was designing and flying my own version of this with a 56" wingspan and a Rimfire power system, 35 anp ESC and a 3 cell 2200 mah lipo. Unlimited vertical climbing and 10 minutes flight times. Hovered at 3/4 throttle, slightly undercambered wing with full span ailerons, weighed 28-32 .oz depending on the amount of covering and bomb loads, I dropped a 16 .oz soft drink bottle and it had no problem flying with the added weight. 12 years ago. Just to prove a point but not sure what the point was. Fun? Yes.
I can foresee this one becoming a very popular airplane. Put some Timber wheels on it and fly it like a Bush Plane. It has a Flaperon / Spoileron option.
It is so cool for Eflite to bring this platform out again. The ailerons are a good addition. I have a GWS Slow Stick and a UMX Ember and I always have a good time with them. I am looking forward to getting one of these.
I want back into flying. I'm kinda ugly too- and a woman actually fell in love with me! lol. And I just fell in love with this BEAUTIFUL air machine. I'll miss my balsa and nitro- but I'll love this PRETTY airplane with all my heart. Be well from the old goats in Michigan :)
I just saw this in a Tower Hobbies add this morning. If Buy (and I very well might) I shall of course use your link. Thanks for another excellent review!
At one time like 20 to 30 years ago. Pipe dream was the name of the airplane that was much bigger. great flyer. Flying a knife edge needs a true fuselage. I am ordering one of these sticks
You guys make great content and I definitely defer to your channel when I’m interested in a purchasing a new plane. Congrats on the addition to your family
Great video! I used to have the Slo-V back in the day, and even though i fly planes of all sizes, these are a lot fun! I like this updated version. I'm probably going to have to add this to the hanger.
My latest RC arrived today. A Redcat Racing 10th scale rock crawler. And then I saw this in my inbox and knew right away I'll be buying one as soon as my bucket has enough money in it. The guy flying it in the clip at Horizon hovers it, so I know that is possible. I love the Night Vapor and I had another stick plane long ago. It had Luftwaffe markings, so I guess WWI was the idea. Misjudged a loop one day and a very exciting near-explosion happened at zero feet AGL. That thing was in a LOT of little tiny pieces. :)
They remade the ugly stick now with 4 channels and a solid core wing instead of an under camber...... Haven't seen one of those in a while still have my original but this is a nice update 👍
Cool little plane. Love you guys, been watching you guys for a couple years now and you are definitely one of my favorite channels to watch! Airian May Santa Barbara California
Thanks to both of you!!! I've been into rc cars. Now getting into places. My trainer cub s2 has been fun. Looking forward to finding my second plane. Keep the contend rolling. Thanks a bunch!!!!!!!
Gotta agree with you there. The S2 has been my first larger scale plane and I absolutely love it. Crashed it probably half dozen times but a little C.A. glue, epoxy, and shishkabob sticks for structural support and she keeps on flying! Definitely looking for my next plane.
Looks very cool! Appreciate you two and your fun and informative videos. So, I just ordered one via your link to do my part in supporting you two and your family 😊. Excited and eager as I wanted a larger than UMX size to see easier and a slow flyer that I could grow my skills with. Good times!!!
I'm 60 yrs old. Planes like this were called Ugly Sticks when I was young, and they're good planes they're rugged and fly good, as the video mentioned planes like this like to float along and not fly very fast, maybe 30 knots.
This is a big Daddy Vapor! I bet it's fun as all heck! I have a GWS slow stik and Micro slow stik, still not built yet. But I picked em up because I know they are getting harder to find. I just finished assembling my Durafly Das Ugly Stick, hoping to maiden it today!
This looks awesome. Back in the day I learned to fly on an H-Ray which was a three channel trainer/race plane. It was rudder, elevator and throttle. Powered by an O.S. Max ,025 schnerle gas engine. I would bounce back and forth between a 9-4 and a 9-6 prop depending on what I wanted to do. One was for speed and the other for power for doing stunts. Then came the "Big H" which introduced me to ailerons. Grand total for years flying was from 1977 - 1985 which includes scale models. My P51B Mustang and F4U1A Corsair both bought built gave me hours of great flying. So this plane would be a great trainer plane for someone starting out or getting back into the hobby. You don't have to fly 100 miles per hour all the time, low and slow works.
Abby, great job! I have to tell you i really enjoyed watching this video, Nate, you were great you guys looked and sounded like you were having fun and have a true picture. I'm thinking of getting one of these, you sold me it was fun to watch, thank you guys again. ❤
Original Slow Stick was and still is a great entry level plane, if you can get one. For under $100. Electronic stabilizers, in my view, have always been an unnecessary extra for people who rather rely on building the control skill on the human hands instead. Got one Nate, in the 70's there were kits called the ugly stick and the sweet stick. They sure were a blast not only to fly but to build as well!! Hi Abby!!!!! Ralphie

At first, I said, “Not for me”, but once it got in the air, I really liked what I saw. It’s a delightful plane that looks like a person can have a lot of fun with. Great find!!!
I glued together the remains of a pico stick and made a gigantic depron wing and tail, and it was probably the most fun I ever had in a gymnasium, it bounced off beams and walls and never stop flying, was it ugly? YES was it fun? YES!
I just love your '4 wheeled machine' vids. Oh man, they bring out Abby's aggressive side. There's nothing on YT like the way she grabs the truck and THROWS it out of the box.. almost as if angry at it! Those vids bring out the pure show-woman in her. I talk about her like she might not see this. lol Be well and peace :)
Dxs 7 channel tx...still use my gws stick with 350 brushed can motor, gws naro rx, picco naro servos, gws 10amp esc, all on a Hi-Tech 72mhz 3 channel fm modulation...old school.
I’m just getting back into RC after a multi-year break (except for using the real flight sim regularly). I think I’m going to purchase this bnf plane. Thank you for this video; it’s my first time seeing your channel.
Wow, great review, I really like what Horizon has released lately, the Eratix is one cool aircraft, that makes an average pilot look like a skilled 3D pilot. Now this release, what a cool aircraft. We really enjoy the content of this channel, you guys rock...
I'm sold I like a good larger size slow flyer. Plus it looks like it is durable and price point is perfect! For some reason I love it! Because of this channel my first plane is the aeroscout. It kinda reminds me of it. It looks like flying a large VAPOR just a fun relaxing flight. I'll be definitely picking up one of these I'll make sure to use your link thank you for another great video
Absolutely Adam!! I couldn’t agree more, and honestly not a bad price 👍😁 If you ordered yours with our link, our channel and our new baby boys fresh diaper Thanks You!! Hahaha 😂😎⚓️
Days of old I believe there was something similar in gas called the Ugly Stick-Performance over Aesthetics....I'll be a new RC pilot, tried to order the Pioneer but is out of stock till Sept. or Oct..with that said, been thinking of a BNF option. Considering the Arrows, E-flite - HobbyZone (Spektrum) planes and an Open Source transmitter-don't want to be locked in to one brand/line.. being budget limited, looking at the RadioMaster TX12 MKII.. My question for you is ELRS vs 4-in-1 vs CC2500 (no idea what that all means) ..for these types of airplanes..not into drones etc..not sure which version I would need..any input/advice would be Most appreciated. Thanks, and appreciate the videos.. learning a lot!..
We had a little extra time to get out and make it happen! It’s So Challenging to do everything we do, with the kiddos but we still make it work. Makes life more fun, to be insanely busy, non stop haha 😂😂😅😁⚓️
im building something that lloks like this in the garage. same size a little bit smaller and on mines the wing is higher up and it has 2 servos for the ailerons
So I actually have history with e flite. Most of my "beginner" experience came from flying them. Their bind and fly is good technology. Their training modes, and being able to switch some airplanes to "advanced mode has been amazing, but... they always leave you wanting more. Going from 0 experience myself, spending 2 to 300 on an airplane you want to be able to push yourself... your skills and in order to do that, you have to move from something like what e flite offers to something more advanced. In fact they had a program you could plug into any tv, and fly a number of airplanes... from experience, that served me more than any of their models. And im not nocking their models, they all work... but, its a lot more cost effective to think about things like this... enjoying your hobby. More than anything I wish they would offer a model you could upgrade easily, and quite far as you advance your skills. That would be a better marketing ploy for them. As far as i know, nobody does this yet....
What do you think about this plane vs the Valiant for a trainer, if I'm working with an instructor at an RC flying field? You seem to really like both of them, and you say that both can fly gently or aggressively. I like that they're more "interesting" than a typical trainer and have room to grow with your skills.
TBH, they both fly extremely similarly, despite their extremely different looks. I will say this though: the Valiant is only 3S capable, while this is 3S and 4S capable. Having said that, the Valiant flies just about like it’s on 4S, so I’d really boil it down to whichever you are most excited about. Both very easy to repair. Both super beginner friendly with room to grow! Do you like scale? Or strange looks? Up to you and you’ll love either one 👍 Go BNF for sure, as a beginner. It’s totally worth it! And finally, if you would please consider ordering yours through our links, we would be very grateful. Happy Flying! 👍😎⚓️

Sold! One of my very first RC planes was a slow stick. Forgot all about them. I defiantly need one in my collection.

This is such an awesome throwback, in a modern way! Love this plane and love this hobby! 👍😁😎⚓️

0:18 that chase footage is great, like the slow big turning prop
Looks like it’s just as smooth as the Aeroscout to
Some of us learned to fly with something called a Duraplane. This is right up that same alley.
I was designing and flying my own version of this with a 56" wingspan and a Rimfire power system, 35 anp ESC and a 3 cell 2200 mah lipo. Unlimited vertical climbing and 10 minutes flight times. This plane isn't ugly.
I love it!
Reminds me of my old 3 channel Swizzle Stick .20 from probably 26 years ago! What a fun plane!
I love this throw back, mixed with all of the modern goodies and performance! 👍😁😎⚓️
Reminds me of the rubber band planes I flew sixty years ago. Will have to get one.
I’ve never heard of a “box roll” but that was a nice square loop!
It's a big night vapor
My latest RC arrived today. A Redcat Racing 10th scale rock crawler. And then I saw this in my inbox and knew right away I'll be buying one as soon as my bucket has enough money in it. Not to mention, most clubs REQUIRE AMA to fly. Nice video man. Nice little plane. I prefer larger stuff, but do dabble in unique ones such as this.
I WANT to get something larger this year. We will see if that happens or not 🤷♂️ Either way, I just love flying 👍😎⚓️
I'm 60 yrs old. Planes like this were called Ugly Sticks when I was young, and they're good planes they're rugged and fly good, as the video mentioned planes like this like to float along and not fly very fast, maybe 30 knots.
What a great flyer!!!! Almost makes me want to get back into this
This is a big Daddy Vapor! I bet it's fun as all heck! I have a GWS slow stik and Micro slow stik, still not built yet. But I picked em up because I know they are getting harder to find.
I just finished assembling my Durafly Das Ugly Stick, hoping to maiden it today!

I really do like this plane. I would have thought it would be for a beginner. Thanks for video and review.
Totally beginner friendly in my opinion, but also tons of room for growth! The Perfect Second airplane, but a solid first, or 100th! 😉👍😁😎⚓️
I'm with you on liking the Aeroscout look cause it's different. Who wants a bunch of planes that look the same? Not me lol 😆 Great video as always!
Thanks Jay!
Epic fist bump brother!

Original Slow Stick was and still is a great entry level plane, if you can get one. For under $100. Electronic stabilizers, in my view, have always been an unnecessary extra for people who rather rely on building the control skill on the human hands instead. My true ultralight conversion kit I developed for the original GWS and HK Slow Stick kits should also work on this heavily glorified Slow Stick clone.
Got one Nate, in the 70's there were kits called the ugly stick and the sweet stick.
They sure were a blast not only to fly but to build as well!!
Hi Abby!!!!!
Ralphie
Great flight and camera work.
Got me one. It’s pretty good for the price. It’s a lot heavier than I expected but it flies pretty well still. It slows down decent. Can’t wait to try flaperons with the addition of another servo.
I stuck a cheap fpv camera and transmitter on mine and it’s a good balance between agile and stable.
OMG Slow Stick is back.
Way cool I think,,,I'm so ready to get back to the hobby.. You guys are awesome. Keep up the great job.
It’s all about the fun.
SWEET BABY RAY'S BBQ SAUCE!!! I THINK YOU HAVE FINALLY FOUND A PLANE I CAN LEARN ON!!!!
Old school slow stick is a classic.
Such an awesome plane!! 👍💯😎⚓️
I remember these planes, they weren’t exactly cheap, but had the receiver and transmitter. When I crashed mine I just built my own wings and kept flying. I was considering going with this style plane as I have a couple of wings doing nothing. So surprised to see them back. Fair price even. 👍
I need one! Looks like a blast and nice flight time.
YES!
DXS is the basic RTF transmitter that comes with AeroScout, Habu STS, Apprentice, etc. RTFs
I am getting one of these. I have a gws slow stick with aileron's and a over powered motor and it's probably my favorite plane
I just love your '4 wheeled machine' vids. Oh man, they bring out Abby's aggressive side. There's nothing on YT like the way she grabs the truck and THROWS it out of the box.. almost as if angry at it! Those vids bring out the pure show-woman in her. Dxs 7 channel tx...still use my gws stick with 350 brushed can motor, gws naro rx, picco naro servos, gws 10amp esc, all on a Hi-Tech 72mhz 3 channel fm modulation...old school.
Would love to see a "mini" version of that !!
Parkzone Ember was the bomb back in the day. I wish they would bring it back!
Not ugly, just the basics no flash. I like it👍
I’m just getting back into RC after a multi-year break (except for using the real flight sim regularly). I think I’m going to purchase this bnf plane. Thank you for this video; it’s my first time seeing your channel.
My first plane was a Dura plane. 3" PVC square with an aluminum rod going for the tail!
I had one with the rubber covered wing! Was a fun nitro plane, especially with a .45 engine 😂
They’ve gone back old skool. I flew one very similar to this in the 80’s.
you're correct DXE is packaged with the Aeroscout
Abby and Nate y'all rock! Love the channel and content! Peace
Thank you!! 👍😁😎⚓️
I'm sold!
I enjoy watching you guys occasionally and appreciate that you are people of “faith”. Keep up the nice work and thanks!
We’re always happy to have you stop by! Have a great weekend! 👍😁😎⚓️
never flown a plane...really want to...but subbed cause i enjoy watching you fly
Very cool, like my GWS Slow stick.
That one reminds me of a GWS slow stick
Supper cool
Just amazing flying
Wow, great review, I really like what Horizon has released lately, the Eratix is one cool aircraft, that makes an average pilot look like a skilled 3D pilot. Now this release, what a cool aircraft. We really enjoy the content of this channel, you guys rock...
My favorite trainer was the GWS Slowstick. Can't find them in my local hobby shop anymore unless its special ordered.
When I saw this it reminded me of the rubber band powered planes, which I still see whenever I go to Schaefer Hobbies.
My 2 favorite airplanes were my 60 size glo powered ultra stick & my gws slow stick!
How slow can you go? I've been hoping for the return of slow sticks. I love my night vapor but wanted something a little bit sturdier for breezy days.
It was called the Pole Cat in the 70s
Late squad today happy flying all 😎😎😎⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️
It may not be the prettiest but it does everything well. It's like the KLR 650 of rc airplanes. 😁
I still have an original GWS Slow Stick not started, like new in its box. I bought it back around 2003.

@@TheRcSaylors just now seeing your reply 🤣 when I do order it I will make sure I use your link! 👍🏼🤠
Love it and have mine on order
Hey Nate is remote ID going to be mandatory for horizon hobby planes?
Why do people like you keep falling for that crap?
@RCSailors - How compact does the plane break down for storage and transport?
I Absolutely love it, definitely plan on snagging it
that plane is awesome!
Cool to see some chase footage again :-)
We had a little extra time to get out and make it happen! It’s So Challenging to do everything we do, with the kiddos but we still make it work. Makes life more fun, to be insanely busy, non stop haha 😂😂😅😁⚓️
im building something that lloks like this in the garage. same size a little bit smaller and on mines the wing is higher up and it has 2 servos for the ailerons
Cool plane, Reminded me of several of my first 4 channel planes. Great review!!
The footage with the drone behind is really cool, i think you should include more footage like that..
We try! It’s hard to find the extra time, having little ones and all. But thank you!! I’d do it way more often if we had a little more time 👍😁⚓️
@@TheRcSaylors well done keep up the good work..
Interesting looking plane!
I flew my exact orange stick, but where did you find that field?
Love it. I just picked my first!
@@TheRcSaylors thanks so much for the advice!
@@TheRcSaylors This plane is 2s and 3s.
Very cool plane. Will it bind with a Night Vapor controller?
