Do not underestimate this plane🛩 This model is my favorite stick I start as my "warm-up" plane. It is very responsive, flies well upside down, spins, loops, acrobatics are amazing and fun. I call it my paper airplane because it is So Light Weight! The "chicken sticks" aka carbon fiber landing gear may snap or break however, $10 for 2 and they are interchangeable. You want a VERY FUN stick this is the one. I love to climb near-full height and cut the throttle and glide it across the sky catching updrafts. On a 3S 2200 I can easily get 3, 5 min + flights or more for a total of 15 (I love to bring it down after 5 and re-flight)
@@ModelAV8RChannel Your videos and content are fantastic. I really think that this modle will become kind of a cult airplane with all the Mods that can be done to it. If you have some extra time, do another video on this airplane, demonstrating how to program the Flaperon / Spoileron option on the transmitter. I do plan on getting this model, programing the Flaperons / spoileron , and putting some Timber wheels on it. This little airplane has so much potential to become whatever you want with just a few minor mods. I can see this airplane becoming one of their top sellers. Once again. GREAT video.

Thank you for the awesome video lots of valuable information right here. I am a newer pilot with about a year of flying so a slow flyer is perfect for me. That tree hit was crazy I would have lost it. I should be able to advance my limited skills with this airplane.
Never flew a stick plane, they do look like a lot of fun though! Awesome flying, and you got me taken a deep breath when i heard you hit that branch in the street, I was like oh 💩! ☠ Semper Fi
Great review, Adam! Looks to be a surprisingly versatile sport flyer. Ordered mine, will provide a much different experience vs my FMS Pitts and Flex Pirana. I like that it’s different than all the (many) cub variations!
Now this I really like! I bet it will fly great on a 3s 1500 to 1800. I really like the way the wing mounts compared to the old GWS ones that I have. 😎👍Great review Adam!
What a great video & have no idea how I’ve missed your channel, loved how informative you are with detailed information & of course the flying!! Thanks for taking the time make the vid! New subscriber here!! P.S. - my first plane was the ParkZone SLO-V in Aug 2004 & I am gonna add this to my hangar!
I wish this had been around years ago! As it is, I am now well served by a selection of Twisted products ranging up to 48". However, none of those went together in minutes and none came with everything in one box! Watching the flight footage, I agree that this could be a first plane and second plane all wrapped into one. It deserves to sell well.
Sounds and looks 👌 This plane can take you from learner through progression into a proficient R.C. PILOT. am new to this hobby started on the 400mm class mostly war birds This is a must buy when I can save my £'s ...
@@ModelAV8RChannel LOVE 💘 R.C. PLANES NEW to this only been flying the little...mini 400mm class .since January 2023... Can't wait to save up and get a proper versatile trainer that I can progress with.
Outstanding review Adam! As others have already said, great flying, you really showed just what this little plane is truly capable of! Not exactly my cup of tea, but I'm sure she'll sell like hotcakes!
Thanks brother John! Hmm...I'm surprised a little bit. I know you are mainly a scale guy (so am I lol), but I also know you like a laid back good time too. Anyway not every plane is for everybody, but I bet you could bush fly the crap outta this one!
SOLD.... Heck I'm even gonna buy it thru your affiliate link... So much good to say about this airframe and this vid... Adam.. Like others have posted you checked ALL of the boxes.. Like the Eratix this is NOT a plane we were expecting, BUT it is a plane that will add HUGE loads of fun to the Hobby.... I have been lookin for a plane that I can point NEW pilots towards as they evolve in their flying skills (without breaking the bank) don't get me wrong I LOVE my UMX planes also (who am I kidding I love ALL planes) but I see HUGE potential in this airframe as a trainer.... Still laughing about that midair with the tree branch... Way to Go Adam and HH....
Brother Mark thank you man! We really appreciate it. And thanks for using our link, it really helps! Bro, this thing is FUN! I can see it now...you dancing in the wind with it while Journey's "Winds of March" is playing in the background! That is what it's all about. BTW...now that I said it, I know you're gonna make that video...lol
What a interesting robust and capable plane Adam - I like it. I would have bought one of these if it had been available a week earlier when I bought a Hacker Super Zoom XL 1200mm (Hyperion Re--brand) after a newbie student incident with my Hacker Edge 450 1200mm.
Great video. I really liked how you also displayed what battery type and flying style the particular video was. I just gutted my original Slow Stick since it was beat to death haha. I think the reason HH says it's not a beginner plane is that the "stick" planes tend to be a bit fragile. I think it would make a good beginner plane just not a good first plane. Once you know how to fly but are still in the beginning stages this could be a great plane for you.
Another nice review Adam. I was truly wondering how this one went together. The suitcase deal is interesting. It certainly has a wide flight envelope. I know I'll probably end up getting this one but I'm going to see what I have laying around first ;-). AirHammer out!!
Great review Adam!! But I can't decide if I like the plane or not, it does look a great slow flyer but I thin I would prefer a bit more meat to the fuselage as opposed to just a stick!! It did look very easy to put together!! Maybe it will grow on me Lol well filmed and edited Heidi, you make a great team 😀👍
Thank you Ian! It is a bit different, while this is a genre that has had some famous examples, there have still only been a few ever designed and produced. This is by far the most capable in that genre ever. It is really fun to get slow too though! May not be for everybody though, but I do like variety!
Interesting plane. Hopefully Horizon will create an updated version to solve the main gear strut breakage issue. Perhaps a SUS 1.2 V2 will find its way into my hangar if so...
Michael the SUS gets a bit of a bad rap, and in my opinion not always fairly. There may be a gear upgrade in the works, that said two things can also work in the meantime. It isn't that hard to do a bit of modeling and reinforce the gear legs. Quite often many planes can be made better in some way with a little modeling. The other thing...I have about 70 flights on the SUS so far. I've landed on a gravel road, grass, pavement, and geotextile. No broken gear yet. Obviously, less experienced/skilled pilots and experienced pilots that demand a plane take abuse have showed us the gear on the SUS will break in situations where the gear on many other planes would not. I concede this...it is clearly a fact. That said...nobody has broken the gear on a good landing. (Like the multiple landings in our video) If you want to "bush fly", and bush flying to you is banging it into stuff like trees, boulders, and the ground at a 25 degree down angle, then maybe the SUS isn't a good candidate for that...lol. The simple fact is, it still requires a bad landing to break them, and honestly...the SUS is really easy to land well, probably the easiest plane to slow down and land smooth I've flown in a while. I like it the way it is, then again, every airplane has operating parameters, and I understand and accept the parameters it must be flown in not to break the gear, and that is no challenge for me personally. What we did in the video to me is plenty fun, and that type of flying, at that level...doesn't break the gear. Too each their own though. Happy flying!
@@ModelAV8RChannel I get it, and appreciate your perspective as being very valid. And I understand that this isn't a Bush plane like a PA-18 that can take abuse. With that said, I have seen gear breakage on the SUS in landings, that while not butter, weren't that abrupt either. And seeing that I am NOT a highly skilled pilot, I know that not all landings will be butter smooth. As you say, I know there are likely "fixes" worked out in the community, and hopefully Horizon will address this concern themselves on the next iteration. Not to imply this is a "hard pass" issue, but nonetheless, does give me pause since it appears to be very common for many.
Very nice informative video on the SUS :-) Regarding a prop change, what would happen if you would use the 11x7.5 three blade prop from the Turbo Timber Evolution on this plane. I still have two of those lying around because i went with a 2 blade prop for 4S on the Timber Evo, so would be nice to be able to re use these. Also stock prop is not in stock over here, not even listed.
You should be fine with that. Diameter is the same and the slight increase in pitch on the 3 blade will probably be negated by the fact that it is less efficient. However - The best way to know for sure you're in the safe amp range is to use a watt meter and check it with the different prop. If you don't have one, I'd get one. It will come in handy for much more in the future. We have a video on Watt meters you might want to check out if you're not already familiar with them.
I just bought because I love my foamy Katana with a 1800-2200 as it can float around and jump into any trick AND I expect the SUS to be one of my main planbes for smaller areas where high trees on each end make landing a 1500 challenging? I have had 25 planes at one time and am down to eight that are lighter and will fly in smaller places as the rules keep getting worse with the Fed?
I was going to get the newish umb timber x, i think this is a better semi 3d plane to get used to the controls of 3d and doing more advanced maneuvers.
Tod there is a difference in a plane that can do some 3D and a plane made for it. If you want to get into 3D, get the E flite Eratix. We have a video on it as well. Great first 3D plane. Also wouldn't hurt you to get the RealFlight Simulator. Great way to learn and practice with no fear of a crash, then once you've got it down on the sim, give it a try with your Eratix.
@Model AV8R i do already have the flight sim. Had a real flight version 6 or 7 a while and recently picked up real flight evolution. I have a 1.1m sukhoi (this plane is beautiful to me, does have panic mode, not technically safe mode or anything, and it has mostly normal flying on it about 5 flights) , the 280 size eflight viking, the first 3d ish plane was the umx pt-17 (technically that was my first ever plane, I didn't know what I was doing lol. I crashed that many times, however, I did somehow manage to fly on it just not to its capabilities). Since then I've bought and sold an apprentice, have many warbirds. I can probably take any plane to the sky and land it. I just dont have developed 3d skills. I can def do pretty good on the sim. I don't wanna wreck the planes I have as I took a few years' break from flying. I can't replace them, they are discontinued. So where I'm at now, I wanna definitely get into 3d. Flying slower "scale" flights is okay, but it doesn't do it for me ya know lol. I do still love warbirds like most. I appreciate the advice, I will look into that plane for sure. I love you videos and you're flying style. Always showcase everything something can do. Alot of these newer reviewers haven't even come close to putting any model through its paces while reviewing. To each their own. I'm happy I found ur channel. Take care.
Low and slow, check. STOL capable sturdy bush plane, check. 3D ish, check. Different patterns on top and bottom of main wing for easy orientation, check. BTW that is where the Eratix fails IMO. Love everything else about it. I was a bit disappointed initially that the new plane was an ugly stick. As I watched your review it dawned on me that this plane excels at the types of flying I like the most. It is easily taken apart and can live in my car along with a DX6e that I have no other use for. I travel a lot for my job, now I can have a plane with me at all times.
I’m just curious to what do you think would be more fun to fly a Umx timber x Or this? I have good experience but just looking for something to fly in tight areas.
The UMX Timber X is more capable, but harder to fly. I personally prefer the SUS because it is a good, laid back flyer that is very capable when you want it to be. The Timber X doesn't do laid back very well...lol.
Just did the maiden tonight after hurricane Helene ripped through my area. The wind died down in the evening nicely to give me some fun first flights with it. I want it to go slower though. I had the 2200ma 3S pack on it and it required too much up elevator to get the thing to slow down even with the battery all the way back. So I'll probably go with the 1300ma 3S pack for all other flights. I really want to do the two servo flaperon setup on this to really slow it down to a crawl. I'm not sure how you got as slow as you did in your demo video to be honest. I want it to fly like it's on the moon. Great plane though, and i can see how after making a few more adjustments, it will be a regular flyer on calm days.
Congrats...super fun plane and so much more capable than it looks like it would be. Up elevator is what you have to do with any plane as you get slow. The nose will naturally come up and as the angle of attack increases you'll need more up elevator and a bit of power to keep it there. The higher the angle of attack, the slower you're going. Of course, lighter packs are always better if you want to fly slow...makes it easier.
@@ModelAV8RChannelI couldn't even get it to do an outside loop as the travel was limited and I did not like the way it flew with the heavier pack. After reprogramming to AS3X+ and maxing out the travel, it will finally do an outside loop. It flies way better on the lighter 1300ma battery and that's the way I will fly it from now on. The battery is set all the way back and the CG feels perfect to me in that position. For some reason the AS3X+ doesn't work though. I admit I don't have much experience with reprogramming the thing so I may have screwed something up, I'm just glad to get the travel unlocked so I can experience the full throws as this is necessary for a slow flyer. There is no forward programming menu anymore. All my equipment has the latest firmware but after attempting to do the initial setup, I lost the ability to go into forward programming. Yes the Tx is bound to the receiver.
Brother you don't have to convince me on your battery choice, lol. A lighter pack is great. If you go to the set up chapter of the video we tell you that we made mechanical adjustments to get more throw and then show you a diagram with our servo arm and clevis placement plus measurements of our exact throws so you can duplicate that if you want. Our set up is simple mechanical adjustments/expo settings...no AS3X adjustments. We didn't even have to unlock the RX or update it to AS3X+ (Which wasn't available at the time anyway). It is OG AS3X with factory settings. We had no issues getting it to do whatever we wanted...even with a heavier battery...with that set up. You can see that in the flying. And again...to get it as slow as it will fly you have to get the nose up, and that requires the up elevator you complained about to establish really slow flight even with a lighter pack, but it will get slower with the lighter pack just like we say it will in the narration of the flying, and it is easier with a lighter pack. We focused on 2200's simply because we have several of those and at the time only had one 1300. As far as what you're doing with AS3X+ I'm not sure without looking at your settings. I'm not sure why it isn't showing a forward programming menu. What TX is it? I "think" some DX radios are not compatible with the AS3X+ but I'm not positive on that.
@@ModelAV8RChannel I got it all sorted now. I don't know why I could not get the control throws past 100%, but it was only after switching to AS3X+ firmware and reseting the Rx that I was able to increase the throws all the way. Then for whatever reason, the forward programming menu dissapeared why going through the setup process. I fixed that by binding to a new model and then back to the original model. I have an NX6 Tx. I had someone at our field help me set up the programming on it and I think I understand better how to do this all from scratch now. It is flying great, including outside loops.
Hello sir..i have many batteries 4s 1500mah from my fpv drone same weight with an 3s 2200 mah ... can i use them with my brand new sus ???? Of course not full throttle all time...normall use??? Thank you in advance 😊😊😊
Hey Adam! I'm new to RC. I don't understand on your graf on the rate 27% when the controller does the rate in %. Can you explain that to me Thanks Bruce
Hey Bruce, welcome to the hobby! Very rewarding and fun! So that is 27mm, not percent. In other words that is the amount of aileron travel measured with a ruler. So from center to full aileron is 27mm up and 27mm down. The 20% beside it is the percentage of expo used. If you are looking to get the same set up, you dial in whatever rate or servo travel that gets you to 27mm of travel at full deflection.
Yep. The AS3X has already been tuned for this plane at the factory, and it is a great tune. You don't have forward programming in that TX, but since there isn't anything in the tune you need to change that is fine. Bind it, set up your expo preferences, and fly it! You'll love it!
It appears that one can transport this plane with the wing removed and requiring little time to mount the wing. I am looking for 1.2 sized plane where it is easy to transport the plane and the wing separately.
A very well done video Adam indeed BTW did you have to change the cg some when doing your hovers with this plane? Also will you be doing another video of you really putting this plane through some hard 3d flying??
Thanks very much! Nope, the CG was the same for all the flying. Also it can hover on any of the 3 cell packs, but the lighter 1300 and 1500 make it a bit easier. Pretty much what you saw is what it can do...which for what it is is quite a bit. The limitation with a "Stick" like this is there is no actual fuselage, so there is not really any surface area to aid in making lift in the yaw axis. That is why you didn't see any knife edge flight. Again though, for this particular genre it is the most capable ever made.
@Cueball AS3X doesn't really have anything to do with it. It is the lack of surface (a fuse) in that position that keeps it from being able to hold one. You have to make lift to hold a knife edge just like you have to make lift to maintain flight. Right side up, obviously, the wing handles making lift. When you roll it on its side, the verical and the entire fuselage makes the lift. A stick fuselage doesn't make lift, and the vertical on its own can't make enough. It would do rolling harriers, though , You're only in the knife edge position for just a second during a rolling harrier so you could keep the nose up when it's right side up and upside down.
It's light, but the AS3X makes a difference. We flew it in 5 to 7mph and it did fine. The Horizon product vid was shot in 10 mph winds. Looks like it did fine then too.
Not much on looks but it's a sweet flying plane, at the end of the day that's what matters to me, just cause a plane looks cool means jack if it flys like crap 😁
Interesting plane design, so it will fly slower that other planes with similar wing size ? Looked good , your skills with planes shows well on this plane
Weird that no other SUS video maker really flies it that slow, or hovers it - it's 3D capable! Maybe none of them can hover a plank! Mine's gettng setup with just High and 3D rates.

Thank you for the awesome video lots of valuable information right here. I am a newer pilot with about a year of flying so a slow flyer is perfect for me. That tree hit was crazy I would have lost it. I should be able to advance my limited skills with this airplane.
You'll enjoy it Shanon. Thanks!
Never flew a stick plane, they do look like a lot of fun though! Awesome flying, and you got me taken a deep breath when i heard you hit that branch in the street, I was like oh 💩! ☠ Semper Fi
Thanks man! They are a lot of fun...so versatile. So...yeah...when I hit the branch thats exactly what I said! Lol.
Great review, Adam! Looks to be a surprisingly versatile sport flyer. Ordered mine, will provide a much different experience vs my FMS Pitts and Flex Pirana. I like that it’s different than all the (many) cub variations!
Thanks! I think you'll enjoy it. Easy to fly, relaxing, but very capable if you want it to be. It surprised me.
Now this I really like! I bet it will fly great on a 3s 1500 to 1800. I really like the way the wing mounts compared to the old GWS ones that I have. 😎👍Great review Adam!
Thanks Keith! It is a real step up from a Slow stick.
Looks like a great float plane🤔❗️
You know it could be!
Thank you very much! Welcome. Glad you found us and glad you're here. You will have a blast with the Slow Ultra Stick!
Thank you, brother, you say thanks so good. I wish you were my Big Brother, Aloha.
totally didn't expect that kind of performance.
Me neither! Awesome plane.
Very well presented review- thanks
Thank you Kenneth!
As always excellent review! I would like to see a video about the optional flapperon upgrade and the reverse thrust.
Thanks Jacob!
I agree my friend, it is a great upgrade from planes like it in the past!
Sounds and looks 👌
This plane can take you from learner through progression into a proficient R.C. PILOT.
am new to this hobby started on the 400mm class mostly war birds
This is a must buy when I can save my £'s ...
It really is a capable, versatile plane!
@@ModelAV8RChannel LOVE 💘 R.C. PLANES NEW to this only been flying the little...mini 400mm class .since January 2023...
Can't wait to save up and get a proper versatile trainer that I can progress with.
Welcome to the hobby Simon! Glad you're in it with us!
It is really neat Dave!
Thanks Brad!
I think it would be fine as a first plane with some instruction. It's much stronger than older generation Sticks.
Very nice. I’ll take it!
I don't blame you!
Yup, I gotta have one.😊
You'd love it!
Another nice review Adam. I was truly wondering how this one went together. The suitcase deal is interesting. It certainly has a wide flight envelope.
I know I'll probably end up getting this one but I'm going to see what I have laying around first ;-).
AirHammer out!!
Thanks man! This think really surprised me...what a versatile plane!
Way Cool review Adam. You may have just changed my opinion that "3D is for the movies" 😁
Lol...thanks very much Robert!
i got a carbon cub s2 then the slow ultra stick . the sus is my fav plane . i fly the crap out of it and have a blast
Awesome. Great airplane!
Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I like how you snuck-in the word 'aluminium', right there in plain sight! Are you sure you're not a Brit, Adam? 😄
Gina I'm a Brit at heart! And an American. Ok...maybe I'm confused...LOL!
Subbed and belled. Awesome video!
Thanks very much! Welcome!
Very cool! You'll enjoy it.
Take care.
Very cool. The Eratix or some 3D profile foamy is the best place to start to really learn 3D.
Outstanding Dan, glad you're gonna get one. This thing really surprised me. So capable and a bunch of fun. Great airplane for you to take with you!
I’m just curious to what do you think would be more fun to fly a Umx timber x
Or this?
Glad you got it figured out. Super fun plane...may be the most underrated plane out there.
Did you have all the rates and servo setup according to the book?
We added some throw to the elevator I think. There is a full set up info page in the video.
Hello sir..i have many batteries 4s 1500mah from my fpv drone same weight with an 3s 2200 mah ... can i use them with my brand new sus ???? Of course not full throttle all time...normall use??? Thank you in advance 😊😊😊
No the motor/ESC are not rated for that voltage/amps. 1300 to 2200 3s packs are very inexpensive. You can get great deals on Amazon.
Slow stick or eratix....?? What the more fun ....thanks ..i love your vid !!!
Thanks! It is versatile!
Can i use flysky receiver and TX?
Sure.
When are you going to do a TImber X Review ?
Not sure we will. I had one right after they originally came out. Very good plane, very versatile.
Thoughts, trainer if flown in SAFE or with an instructor and buddy box?
If it was marketed as a trainer, the rest of HH's trainer planes would have to compete with it. Quoted from a HH video.
Trevor a good instructor is always the best idea no matter the plane, but you know SAFE is an option for the folks that don't want to socialize.
@@ModelAV8RChannel fair!
Will I be able to operate this plane with an old Dx8 gen 1 ??
Yep. The AS3X has already been tuned for this plane at the factory, and it is a great tune. You don't have forward programming in that TX, but since there isn't anything in the tune you need to change that is fine. Bind it, set up your expo preferences, and fly it! You'll love it!
@ModelAV8RChanne l
Thanks!!
Hopefully be able to my hands on it before the contrary weather gets here to stay
It appears that one can transport this plane with the wing removed and requiring little time to mount the wing. I am looking for 1.2 sized plane where it is easy to transport the plane and the wing separately.
Thomas we touch on that in the video! It is very easy to take down/transport.
@@ModelAV8RChannel Even with the AS3X it still won't do a knife edge or get away with rolling harriers?
@@ModelAV8RChannel Oh ok then thanks for the info😁😁
@@ModelAV8RChannel "moist capable" lol autoco-wreck strikes again. I have try to slip this into as many conversations as I can.
Nice
Thanks Team Jackson!
"Gratuitous hovering" 😂
Lol...yep!
How does it fly on windy days?
It's light, but the AS3X makes a difference. We flew it in 5 to 7mph and it did fine. The Horizon product vid was shot in 10 mph winds. Looks like it did fine then too.
@@ModelAV8RChannel ahhh, that was Ali flying it ....
Dude thats rad hahaa
Lol...yep!
Not much on looks but it's a sweet flying plane, at the end of the day that's what matters to me, just cause a plane looks cool means jack if it flys like crap 😁
It really does fly great!
This could be the plane that replaces my UMX TT for flying on my property. No need to drive to the club grounds to get my "fix".
Bill its a great easy going plane that will surprise you with what it can do if you give it a nudge. The bigger wheels are good too.
Interesting plane design, so it will fly slower that other planes with similar wing size ?
Looked good , your skills with planes shows well on this plane
Thanks man! Yes it does. The lack of a full fuselage saves so much weight, so the wing loading is low. Slows down really well!
👍👍😊😊
Weird that no other SUS video maker really flies it that slow, or hovers it - it's 3D capable! Maybe none of them can hover a plank! Mine's gettng setup with just High and 3D rates.
Lol...thanks Steven! Capable plane for sure, and fun to fly slow.
Thats the sort of plane you can run fun fun with a lot of airtime. Maybe they will listen to you and list it as a trainer. Might have to get one🫡
It is Chris! You'd enjoy it I'd bet!
Plane for Burt Reynolds’s? Great content as usual. Where’s the wife? Spruce up the channel and bring her back on.🥸
She is pretty brother Wayne, I'll get her on, and hopefully not to hit her in the head with another plane this time! LOL! I can see it now with a license plate that says "Ban One"
