Doo Wop was a genre all it's own. There were many groups that used this style back in the mid '50s. This is an entire rabbit hole for you to check out.
We, the grandparents and great-grandparents of this nation, had wonderful love songs, didn't we? WOW! I can still sing all these songs w/o reading lyrics.
Gosh how I loved this song! I was just a little girl, but my sisters were teenagers. Look at how SHARP they looked too! People REALLY dressed like this back then- not just on Leave It To Beaver. Everybody had class.
Shawn and Mel, glad that you both enjoyed the 5-satins, the song first came out in 1956, (I was in the 6th grade) released again in 1960. You're correct, all those songs were about love and/or broken hearts. You have to understand the time line, most radio stations wouldn't play rock & roll, let alone music by black artist. Not everyone had TV's in those days. Go on any street corner and you'd find a group of guys forming singing groups, girls as well, was good times under the circumstances in those days, as you've guessed by now I'm old school (77 yrs. old) enjoyed watching this with you guys, Ed.
Love do-wop music. I was a kid when this song came out. I may have already told you this but I am a 71 year old great grandma. All "you young folks" discovering real music from back in the day does my heart good.
I grew up in the doo wop era . This tune was considered the doo wop national anthem. Every street corner harmony group had to be able to sing this tune. It was the music of the city in the 50's and early 60's.
classic doo wop songs include the Heartbeats-A thousand Miles Away, the Marcels Blue Moon and Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers-Why Do Fools Fall in Love-and hundreds of others.
I had the privilege of seeing Fred Paris and the five satins back in the 1980s. One of the all time greatest doo Wop songs, a real treasure. Thanks for keeping great music and great performers alive. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
My husband and I danced to the Flamingos "I Only Have Eyes For You" at our wedding in 2002. Such a beautiful song. You will dance in your living room-NO DOUBT..
Love Doo Wop.... brings back memories of being a little tyke & being picked up and danced around the living room by my sister. My brother & his group sang doo wop in the basement & at Philly Int'l Airport bathrooms at the time for the acoustics lol. Great time to be alive.👍💥
I love how those oldies groups would dance in Sync with each other. Many a marriage happened as a result of this song in that Baby Boomer generation. This song was out around the time of Bill Haley.
It's so cool watching you young folks reacting to the Doo Wop era music...it was great growing up listening to these great groups..just ask your grandparents..
This song was recorded in the basement of St Mary's Church in New Haven, CT. My family used to have Xmas family reunions in that basement. My dad worked with one of the in a pool table factory!! Fred still hits all the local classic car shows when he's up to it. Getting frail now..very nice man!
I first heard this song when I was 9 years old listening to Big Don Barksdale on KWBR in Oakland. This was a once in a lifetime style of music. Harmonizing today “can’t touch this”.
What makes this song even more sentimental is that it is autobiographical. Fred came up with the song while he was in the Army. He was missing his sweetheart while he was getting ready for guard duty and was looking at the stars and well the words and music started to come to him and well the rest is history.
Fabulous voice, one of the greatest Doowop songs ever. There's much more Earth Angel, There's a Moon out Tonight, Since in don't Have You, Only You, You belong to Me, One Summer Night (all by different groups).
Cool song; cool choreography which black groups are famous for. Made me shed some nostalgic tears. What a legacy they have left for us to enjoy... and I'm not black... brown actually. lol.
Classic doo wop song also now well known in pop music because of the movie "dirty dancing". Sold ten million copies after the movie release. You two would like the one hit wonder harmonious love song from 1962, "Popsicles and Icicles" as well.
My dad sang in a Doo Wop band. This is my favorite song of all time. And I’m only 57!! WCBS FM used to do a top 500 songs of all time and this song was number ONE every year. I love your reactions but it’s obvious that Shawn is truly an old heart at his core.
Most of these Groups were One Hit Wonders in the sense they only had One Hit Record and faded into obscurity. Yet they would influence the next generation of Groups like The Temptations. There are so many for you to check out. The Penguins, Flamingos, Crests, Cadillacs, Drifters, Coasters, Monotones, Robins, The Silhouettes. Sadly enough most don't have the original Group Members and never got paid and even today there are Folks who say they are them but they are not but because they don't own the rights to the Group's Name they can't really do anything about it.
This is what “doo-wop” is all about. Most of these groups had their origins on street corner a capella singing-they used their voices to replace musical instruments (which most of them simply couldn’t afford). Good times and great singing.
Skeeter Davis - "The End of the World" just popped into my head.. I've loved the song since I first heard it at 10yrs old and now I'm 40! It hits harder after experiencing heartache as an adult. I think you guys will really enjoy this one.
Shawn and Mel are THE BEST. JUST SUSCRIBED. KEEP ON PLAYING THESE GREAT CLASSICS FROM YESTERYEAR. YOUR REACTIONS AND ANALYSIS BRING TEARS AND LAUGHTER TO ME. I LOVED IT WHEN MEL SAID WE NEED MORE MUSIC LIKE THIS TODAY. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH.
I've never heard them introduced that way and on the record label of them it's only titled as "The Five Satins", or at least on the record I have of them.
You have to do the platters- smoke gets in your eyes. Also the penguins- earth angel, sky liners- since I don’t have you, gene chandler- duke of earl, del Vikings- come go with me
Shawn and Mel, this looks like a clip from a movie the 5 Satins were in. They are singing to the studio version that was on the radio. This is pure dowop. The harmonies are pure. I was just a little girl when this song was a hit on the radio. Now I'm 71 and grew up during the British invasion. But this song is just a testament on how good dowop music was way back then.
Just think of being a teenager when songs like this were around and going to dances and slow dancing to this with your best girl or any girl for that matter, I grew up in the 50s and 60s and it was a great time for the Music
In 1986 country singer Ronnie Milsap incorporated the chorus of this song into one of his big hits "Lost In The Fifties Tonight". Great song and video.
Lead singer Fred Parris just, recently passed, it's been a couple of months. He said he wrote this song while on guard duty in the service. It was night time and things were very quiet, and he was inspired. The song was recorded in the basement of a church in New Haven. In 2017, The Satins went back to that same church and re-recorded the song with a companion video. BTW, they sounded great.
A couple of one-hit wonders from 1961 doo wop era are "Peppermint Twist" by Joey Dee & the Starliters, and "Bristol Stomp" by the Dovells, both dance tunes, very catchy.
You should check out the songs Leader of The Pack, My Boyfriend's Back, Tell Laura I Love Her and Boy From New York City. All four are terrific tracks from that era.
Doo Wop was a genre all it's own. There were many groups that used this style back in the mid '50s. This is an entire rabbit hole for you to check out.
amen lots of Great Rabbits down there
We, the grandparents and great-grandparents of this nation, had wonderful love songs, didn't we? WOW! I can still sing all these songs w/o reading lyrics.

Judy, yes I remember all the words too, this was "our" music and it brings back a lot of memories.
@@kyletroknya2419 this was the best "slow dance" of the 1950's, this song was a big hit.
I was 10 when all these songs came out, they were played at all our family gatherings, and everyone loved to dance.
Gosh how I loved this song! I was just a little girl, but my sisters were teenagers. Look at how SHARP they looked too! People REALLY dressed like this back then- not just on Leave It To Beaver. Everybody had class.
Still one of my favorite songs.
This song always reminds me of Dirty Dancing, lol. Great reaction!! 🙂
Classic Doo Wop! The Penguins-Earth Angel is another classic.

Another fav...My older brothers would dance with me with this song..
Oh ... this takes me back ... loved the Doo Wop music for dancing !! Pure magic !! Thanks for the memories !!
This when performers had talent as opposed to today
Somehow I always listen to this just before or after I've heard The Rays sing "Silhouettes", lol. So now I've heard this imma go play that.
My Mom shared this music with me when I was growing up! Thank you Mom!! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
It’s called Doo Wop and was the sound of the 50’s. Do The Flamingos “I Only Have Eyes For You”.

I am so happy I was around when this great era of music was in full bloom. What a great time to be alive.
The doowop groups were so smooth...each and every one...REAL ROMANCE!!
Love how you appreciate the oldies
Love do-wop music. I was a kid when this song came out. I may have already told you this but I am a 71 year old great grandma. All "you young folks" discovering real music from back in the day does my heart good.
The Flamingos- I Only Have Eyes For You. The best!!
I grew up in the doo wop era . This tune was considered the doo wop national anthem. Every street corner harmony group had to be able to sing this tune. It was the music of the city in the 50's and early 60's.
So classy!💙
classic doo wop songs include the Heartbeats-A thousand Miles Away, the Marcels Blue Moon and Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers-Why Do Fools Fall in Love-and hundreds of others.

Really love you guys have been doing the roots of Rock and Roll with Doo Wop music
Timeless classic. This song is on my playlist ❤️🎶🎧
I love how those oldies groups would dance in Sync with each other. Many a marriage happened as a result of this song in that Baby Boomer generation. This song was out around the time of Bill Haley.
This is excellence! Fred was a sensational singer. This song is the #1 best Doowop song in music history.
One of the Anthems of Rock&Roll made some great music well into 1960s. One of their best I'll be holding on check it out
It's so cool watching you young folks reacting to the Doo Wop era music...it was great growing up listening to these great groups..just ask your grandparents..
Early 50's small groups of guys stood on street corners singing Doo Wop to get discovered.
2 songs u need 2 hear:
"I Only Have Eyes For You" - The Flamingos
"Since I Don't Have You" - The Skyliners
Can I add Smoke Gets In Your Eyes by The Platters??
They don't need that music.. thier voices are angelic... ❤❤
This song was recorded in the basement of St Mary's Church in New Haven, CT. My family used to have Xmas family reunions in that basement. My dad worked with one of the in a pool table factory!! Fred still hits all the local classic car shows when he's up to it. Getting frail now..very nice man!
St Bernadette's
Came out when I was in high school, I think originally the were called The Five Satins.
I first heard this song when I was 9 years old listening to Big Don Barksdale on KWBR in Oakland. This was a once in a lifetime style of music. Harmonizing today “can’t touch this”.

All I had to do was turn on the radio to hear great music and a nice variety too.
This was awesome, thank you. Love you guys
Love this song! This was a big hit for Fred Paris and the Satins. Best slow dance of the 1950's! RIP Fred Parris.♥️
You guys pick the best stuff!!
I'm enjoying watching you two enjoying all the oldies, my kind of music.
Cool song; cool choreography which black groups are famous for. Made me shed some nostalgic tears. What a legacy they have left for us to enjoy... and I'm not black... brown actually. lol.
Still one of the most romantic songs 😍
Classic doo wop song also now well known in pop music because of the movie "dirty dancing". Sold ten million copies after the movie release. You two would like the one hit wonder harmonious love song from 1962, "Popsicles and Icicles" as well.
Smooth...Just plain old love songs...just beautiful. society was better back then in a lot of ways.
Little Darlin’ by The Diamonds is another great song to react to.
What outstanding voices. I used to hear this song on an old jukebox it sounded amazing with people around
My dad sang in a Doo Wop band. This is my favorite song of all time. And I’m only 57!! WCBS FM used to do a top 500 songs of all time and this song was number ONE every year. I love your reactions but it’s obvious that Shawn is truly an old heart at his core.

You have to listen to the Tymes...So Much In Love
This was a scene from a rock n roll B - movies they made back in the day. That is why the crowd is calm. Great reaction as always from you two.
Blue Moon, The Marcels. Come Go With Me, The Del Vikings
This is what “doo-wop” is all about. Most of these groups had their origins on street corner a capella singing-they used their voices to replace musical instruments (which most of them simply couldn’t afford). Good times and great singing.
It gave me goosebumps. It's such a classic song. They were well dressed, too.
That's the style then I try my best to keep it going bc it's my favorite
Skeeter Davis - "The End of the World" just popped into my head.. I've loved the song since I first heard it at 10yrs old and now I'm 40! It hits harder after experiencing heartache as an adult. I think you guys will really enjoy this one.

My very first favorite song at the tender age of 7 is the Flamingos I Only Have Eyes For You
Reaction suggestion : LOU RAWLS singing You’ll Never Find ( another love like mine). This is a classic love song.
It's Doo Wop. When I was a kid we used to watch the teenagers sing Doo Wop. On school nights we'd tell our parents we had gone to church
I LOVE THAT SONG!!! ❤
A beautiful classic 💖
This song has been referred to as the National Anthem of oldies
This is so good. I grew up in this era. Nothing like it. I bet those journey has impacted your life . Enjoy!!!!!

It still gives me CHILLS!!!
In 1986 country singer Ronnie Milsap incorporated the chorus of this song into one of his big hits "Lost In The Fifties Tonight". Great song and video.
☮️💙💙great morning cause of you!☮️🌻
This song and so many others like it are why I have collected vinyl for well over 30 yrs. The music of today just doesn"t compare to it.
Lead singer Fred Parris just, recently passed, it's been a couple of months. He said he wrote this song while on guard duty in the service. Great song to slow dance to. House parties and blue lights...
A couple of one-hit wonders from 1961 doo wop era are "Peppermint Twist" by Joey Dee & the Starliters, and "Bristol Stomp" by the Dovells, both dance tunes, very catchy.
Yes, true love...at the school sock hop or the teen canteen. A time for slow dancing with the one you love.
In the 50s (before smart phones) young people would form in groups under street lights and improvise doowop and some became stars
You Tube needs a LOVE button not just a like button
Imagine slow dancing to this. 🥰
Great tune
You should check out the songs Leader of The Pack, My Boyfriend's Back, Tell Laura I Love Her and Boy From New York City. All four are terrific tracks from that era.
In The Still Of The Night by the 5 SATINS along with EARTH ANGEL by the Penguins are considered the two greatest DOO WOP songs of all-times
I didn't know that was their name but that song was very popular.
I truly love you both and I sincerely wish you both a very merry Christmas - I would never wish my life upon you ❤
Love the saxophone...
