I do remember trying it on some of my grandma's game discs. But I never gave it a chance. Seeing that level editor now I wish I had. Kid me would have loved it.
eGames CDs were my entry into shareware gaming as a kid, and games like Speedy Eggbert and also Crazy Drake (a Earthworm Jim clone for DOS) were my favorites growing up. I am glad to see there are fans out there of these old games. A particular shareware developer I have to mention, who had some of their early games released through eGames, was Hamumu Games. They had some impressive action-arcade titles like the Dr. Lunatic series and the zelda-esque action adventure series Loonyland. Their games, like the Blupi/Eggbert games, are now both freeware and open source.
Did you know, the music for Speedy Eggbert was created algorithmically using an old Microsoft program called Microsoft Music Producer. You would select a genre, key, mood, instrument set, length, and fullness/loudness over time, and it would generate music for you in MIDI format. It released in 1997.
Speedy eggbert crosses my mind at least once a week and has done so since 1998, I kid you not. Spooky castle is another favorite. I will never give them up.
Can't even begin to explain how much time i spent making my own levels. I loved this game as a kid and seeing it after 20 years just brings so much nostalgia! ^_^
Yes! I wish that was touched on in this video! That was one of the coolest features that I spent countless hours on! It was essentially a game within a game, and a way to create endless playability by creating your own levels, and it was probably responsible for encouraging at least some kids to become interested in video game development!
I have a lot of memories of this game! 😍 Just listening to the music and seeing the aesthetics of this game mentally transport back to 2004 when I’d play this on the family Dell Dimension. Thanks for reminding me of this!
Something has been plucked from the dark recesses of my brain, something ancient, suddenly thrust towards now and I'm just back at my old computer's CRT playing this game, year possibly around 2005 or 2006. Is this... Nostalgia?
Oh my god. i can relate to you 100%. i've actually forgot about the game almost entirely until today, and when i first search the web for it, i find this video. right in the childhood! insane how vividly I actually remember some parts of the levels you featured here! 🤯 awesome video, cheers :)
of all pieces. our elementary school had this game on their computers in the computer lab. i eventually got my own copy too. the level editor was really fun. kinda like a mario maker before mario maker.
My dad somehow got this game for my sister and I and we only had the demo version for a long time. I remember that one of my biggest wishes was to be able to build levels with music and background, since the demo version did not include these features. Then I finally got my dad to purchase the full game from eGames (both the 1st and the 2nd) and I played it with my friends and by myself a lot. Yes, the game is pretty easy with only a few levels being a bit more difficult but you can create some really tricky stages in the level editor. Fun fact, the music is amazing but it was actually not even composed by anyone. Epsitec used a song creator made by Windows and that's how the songs were made. Many songs are similar in Planet Blupi.
Holy shit. Had this in Arcade Master as a kid. I remember him also appearing in a 3D car game in that compilation. I think i’ve still got it somewhere, hopefully it runs on Linux
Sonic Mania confirmed as Blupi Mania ripoff? (Edit: I guess I forgot who I was watching for a moment when I left that lame joke. This review was just so dang wholesome and honest. Keep up the good work. And go for it! I'd love to see more editorial stuff.)
I have been trying to find this game for years. I played it when I was like, five, and for so long I've been trying to figure out what it even was based off those fractions of memories.
Wow, I thought I was the only one who remembers eGames! When I was young I played their car racing game Mini car racing and a platformer with a duck in it (I think Crazy Drake?) I recently tried playing mini car racing on a windows 10 pc but couldn’t get the CD to read :(
THANK YOU FOR MAKING A VIDEO ON THIS! I loved eGames! I have Arcade Master. ALSO I read somewhere that all of the songs in this game were randomly generated.
Although this may not get as much views as some of your other stuff, I found this to be just as interesting as anything else and I'd love to hear about other obscure 90s and early 2000s pc games or even rarely mentioned games from consoles
I still have that disk!!! I bought a four pack of egames for my son when he was 4 and mini car racers was in it. He mastered that game at 4 years old!! All the adults would try to challenge him and he whooped their asses every time lol
Thank you for creating good content around this gem. I grew up playing this on my Granny's PC in the early 00's. I love it and the Gold Edition still holds so much love in my heart for it to this day. Thanks Snooplax, you're doing God's work.
Oh my gosh, I have looked for this game on and off for years! I LOVED it as a kid but couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called. Thank you! The level editor blew my mind as a kid, and is what made me want to rediscover it so bad.
You don't know how happy I am to learn this game is free to download. I had the galaxy of games red edition and want to retrieve all those games for modern OS
I loved this game!! I spent hours and hours playing it messing around with the level editor when i was young. I remember making a series of tower levels with the goal of getting to floor 100
Me and my sister played this game for countless hours, I completely forgot it existed but now I want to play on the old computer and see if our levels are still there
eGames was notorious for bundling the TimeSink adware with their game disks. I had a fishing game (that also had a Speedy Eggbert demo) from them and my antivirus software picked up a program called "TSAdbot"
Speaking of old puzzle games for Windows, ever heard of Gubble? The second game was one of my childhood favorites, and it's also got some good midi jams.
I LOVED eGames! I got to know Hamumu Software (one indie developer they published for that's actually really cool) thru them. I still have a physical copy of Speedy Eggbert in its case somewhere I'm sure.
I suddenly out of no where had one of the songs stuck in my head and is amazed that people still remember this game. Also so happy the game is free now.
This is amazing man, im from Brazil and have seen no one talking about this game, this game was part of my childhood, its rlly nice to see someone talking about
I was led here from a childhood game (Crazy Drake). All I can say is: I absolutely love the poor yet surreal & charming CGI of eggbert. I wish it was a fantasy RPG or something!
I remember this game, I actually played it at a childhood friends house when I was around 9, I forgot all about it and tried getting it a couple years later and couldn’t find the official game like this. I’d always come across ripoffs or other odd egg games. Thanks for the vid, always coming in clutch af with your uploads
I randomly thought of this today. This game was part of my childhood and I remember playing it everytime I went to my grandma's house on her ancient pc
I'M SO FUCKING HAPPY I FINALLY FOUND THIS GAME, AFTER ALL THIS YEARS. I remember play it in the past, my first games in pc when I was almost a grown baby. But it didn't last too much, years passed till I play this game and I forgot it forever, but the memories still there and somehow in some moments I have flashbacks of that tiny yellow thing and the music of victory when you pass a level. Thanks for the video man.
This, Lego Soccer Mania, Backyard Baseball and some random Jimmy Neutron game were my absolute favorites growing up. This is a really deep cut, and I'm glad to see someone talking about it
I remember when my dad showed me this game. I still remember that big crt monitor with the three viewsonic birds sitting on his desk. Speedy eggbert was the OG game that started it all....
First time I've ever seen anybody else mention this game or just mention eGames in general. I sunk so many hours of my childhood into Speedy Eggbert and other eGames. I may still have a few of those CDs laying around somewhere.
FINALLY Someone talks abut this game... I was looking for more information a couple years ago but couldn't find that much!... I got one of those "eGames" CD when I was a child and I remember to have so much fun with these game, also there is another platformer about a Duck that I couldn't remember, now thanks to this video I finally can remember it's name, "Crazy Drake"
This was one of the few games I had as a kid on my mom's PC up until it stopped working some years later. I only had the demo so I could only use the level editor which was still available in its entirety. Can't wait to finally play the whole thing tomorrow morning!
i've been going insane for years trying to remember the name of this game, playing it was such a vivid memory but i could recall nothing about it. just. yellow little guy on a platformer type game. thank you for finally lifting the curse on my poor brain lmao
I had a copy on CD of what I recall as speedy eggbert 3, but I just cant find anything about it online. The main carachter is still blupi, but instead of being a platformer it is a puzzle game, where you had some boxes and cranes and I remember some big orange arrows that controled the crane who moved the boxes. It is all foggy in my memory though, so I cant remember much, but I played that game a lot when I was little and never found anything about it
This unlocked a deep memory in my mind. Holy shit dude.
same
Yes reminds me of child abuse too
@@BIG2hats You ok?
me too, it was an escape for me as a child
I love y’all glad we’re all here
this game was my childhood. i say that about some games but this was the main one
I do remember trying it on some of my grandma's game discs. But I never gave it a chance.
Seeing that level editor now I wish I had. Kid me would have loved it.
@@PlotlinePlus this was Super Mario Maker years before it was even an idea.
I remember playing this online on a flash website as a kid
Same. I used to play that a lot.
the sound effects unlocked such deep core memories playing this game as a kid

dang we had the same childhood in regards to eGames
Those two and also moon buggy. I still here the music from all of these games likes its fresh.
I played Crazy Drake on Win98, I remember being scared by DOS I think haha, I'm 25 now
🥚 We did it Speedy Eggbert fans! Snooplax heeded our call!
There are dozens of us! Dozens! 🥚
Haha, dozens. Egg puns.
But the war doesn't stop here. Keep spread'n around and one day you guys will have Speedy Eggbert 3.

I'm glad someone remembered this classic. I played this all the time when I was a kid
THIS GAME!!!
I used to play it as a kid all the time but never knew its name! Now I do!
Heading off to the pirate bay to relive some memories. Thanks.
i recall these characters being pedestrians you had to go on missions to save in buzzing cars/wild wheels which was an egames racing game
also they’re would be billboards on the side if the road advertising eggbert!!!
I have a lot of memories of this game! 😍

Man, I remember playing this at my friend's house as a kid, I always loved it. Thanks for the nostalgia trip.
I played these games for hours way back when
I played this a ton as a kid. I remember being able to create custom maps.
I love Eggbert and I'll never shut up about it
Next Snooplax video: Eggbert mods and viewers' levels... It's free after all.
Thanks for mentioning where to replay this. I have spent literal days trying to get my old eGames disc to work. This game is a blast from the past.

Bro Speedy Eggbert 2 is one of my favorite games of all time! I've made so many levels over the years even today. Thank you for covering this!
It's pronounced "Blue Pea". Confirmed by the readme file in DOS Blupimania.
Probably why they changed it for the US haha
