For sure, and there’s nothing wrong with maturing or anything like that but his new music didn’t add much that was interesting to replace the fun of his earlier music

Jack Harlow for me is an example of an artist that works way better when making singles than albums. What’s Poppin, Tyler Herro, Way Out, Nail Tech, SUVs Black on Black, First Class, all of these hit Pretty hard and are the things he pushed as singles. But even if I didn’t think his last two album were that bad, there is just nothing special about them at all which I think sucks. I got a collective 4 songs out of both albums that weren’t singles (Route 66, Crème, Dua Lipa, and State Fair) and I still don’t think any of them are as good as the singles. I like the dude and it’s for that reason the lack of interest I have in his albums is really disappointing.
"HEY BIG HEAD" is my favorite Jack Harlow song, it just goes SO HARD! Found out about it when I was looking through his discog on Spotify after hearing "WHATS POPPIN" (which I discovered from A Dose of Buckley's 10 Worst Songs series lol)
Jack is strongest when his music is less serious and just focused on solid flows and vocals. He works better when he's adjacent to "meme rappers" like Yung Gravy or bbno$ than when he's trying to be mainstream.
Is Yung Gravy even a rapper??? He droppped mister clean(which was ass) and fell off a cliff. He doesn’t even rap he just talks over beats. And his music consists of “Yo mom a milf so imma fuck, yo mom can vacuum so you know she can suck” over a trash beat. Legit just a fucking meme
I definitely disagree with this take. Calling him a “meme rapper” is just a blanket term for him being a white rapper. The majority of his songs are lyrically focused and the less serious songs to me don’t seem that strong. His last album was ass bc of how commercial and boring his flows were
@@tobyking5282 Meme rapper is a blanket term for rappers that don't make serious music but humurous music, Ski Mask also falls into the category somewhat.
Should do Mgk next he's one of the most polarizing rappers and artist in the industry so I'm curious on your opinion of him. As for Harlow he's alright and I feel he got potential but he don't tap into it often. Some of his tracks are boring and put me to sleep.😆
Mr. Harlow suffers from a problem of what most rappers who blow up have in common, having their albums be SO BLOATED with songs that just don't fit and not realizing that they can make albums being short and sweet and not making the same song that got them a major hit over and over again. I wanted to like Jack when I first heard his hit songs but WOW it was a drag to get myself to finish both TWTAS and CHTKMY. Just boring sell out radio-bait songs.
I'm willing to put down a light 50 and bet it's the label doing moves. I can also see how Jack himself might want to distance himself from his jokester side, seeing how he at one point was the "sus guy". However, I believe he could have found some way to blend the serious with the not so serious. Just look at Wayne, that man has bars on bars on bars and a lot of them are funny as fuck when you think about it.
I like Jack. That last album ain’t it. But he clearly has talent and a love and respect for the art of Hip- Hop. That’s more than I can say for a lot of rappers.

that’s a fair opinion man, even if we feel differently about the music i can see how it would be amazing to see someone from your hometown blow up like that 🙏🏻 regardless of how i feel about his music, he seems like a good person so i’m happy for his success
Discovered Jack in 2019 with Confetti. Hyped him up to everyone I know, then Sweet Action made quarantine era better for me. Then TWTAS came out, and I was so disappointed. I waited, he had some good features in ‘21 so I was excited to see what CHTKMY would be like. It was even more embarrassing

Sweet action so underrated, listened it on its release date, and "Hey big head" and "Smell like incense" both still hit harder than majority of his new stuff.
Jack also had a verse on the Extinct(extended) By Reason with Denzel curry, Westside boogie and Joey badass (the original is Reason, JID and Isaiah Rahshad) and he actually does pretty good. This version was dropped on UA-cam when it was announced DOOM died since the song samples an MF DOOM song.
