Welcome to the second tier list video I've done on this channel, this time focusing on iconic diss tracks within hip hop, old and new.
I've chosen diss tracks ranging from as far back as 1987 all the way up to 2018, so how did I rank these songs from artists like JAY-Z, Nas, Eminem and 2Pac? Well, this is CDTVProductions, and watch the video to find out!

For me I love Ether. It's my personal favourite diss track and it became so influential. It became the term for getting dissed hard. Someone getting Ethered.
i definitely respect the impact of the track, it’s a super notable one

You skipped over the whole 50 Cent era. The hail mary remix with 50, eminem, and busta rhymes is one of the best diss songs of all time. Busta's verse was crazy.

MGK fully dissed himself into a new genre
And became bigger than ever
Another Stan. Smh
Plus he also had some type of rock influences throughout all is music. Bloom being the first album to really give hints of MGK headed towards a more rock dominated sound (even if it’s more of a Arena rock/ soft rock sound). Tickets was actually a decent surprise with how it turned out. Mainstream sellout isn’t anything that special but I think if he actually keeps diving in to rock he could come up with something unique. he should find a way to really mix what he did on hotel Diablo with the that pop punk sound. But ultimately both Eminem and MGK have turned corny at this point. Eminem just isn’t try to do anything new with his sound which makes his music boring as well because it’s all stuff we’ve heard before.
Ngl though, Hotel Diablo is a really solid album and would genuinely prefer listening to that then Eminem’s past three projects. MGK’s new genre career is not my fave thing in the world, and it’s actually a shame he didn’t remain in rap, his last rap album showcased his ability to actually perform well in this genre
@@tiborkljajic6167 Hotel Diablo has BANGERS on BANGERS. Burning Memories with Skies? Fire. Even I Think I’m Okay is fire, and I dont really like his rap//rock mixture. Albums a 8.5-9 easily. Good themes good everything. Even good features
While its not really a diss track, I think Kendrick's Control verse deserves a shout out for lighting a fire under hip-hop's ass
The real disses on that track were for the rappers that Kendrick didn’t include on his list. He didn’t see them as his competition.
@@MG-gn6ni He didn't diss any classic rappers out of respect
@@dwzenix7954 he didn’t diss his predecessors he only went after new hip hop
In that sense Ringer also deserves a mention
That take on It Was Written being on the same, or greater, level than Illmatic is a hill I’ll die on. Illmatic is generational and the fact that he followed up with 14 memorable tracks, no skips, on It Was Written is GOAT level work. Excellent video!
Agreed. I loved it was written. It kicked off a lot of the ny mafioso rap in my opinion. The production was great and the flow was on another level.
Even I Am has some bangers on it, jay z is a fucking crackhead
fr. better than 99% of hip-hop albums of all time.
@@BOrrellgod Take it in Blood is the best Nas song ever in my opinion
About Gucci Mane's Truth, the thing that makes it even more iconic is the song Dissin The Dead released last month. He acknowledges that he fucked up in terms of making it a "trend" to shit on dead people and it's such a good song + a mature take from him that I immediately started appreciating Gucci more and more as an artist and as a human
Gucci has been my favorite rapper for a while now, but "Dissin' The Dead" made that margin between him and #2 that much larger.
50 Cent dissed the dead first
@@milesomoruyi9435 he did it first ig and Chief Keef or Gucci made it popular and normal to do it, especially Chief Keef when it comes to drill rap
@@nate9147 "F a Tooka gang bitch I'm 3hunna"

Ether is a top 5 diss track of all time. Having it as a b is just wild
maybe there’s something i’m missing with it, but while i appreciate it’s impact i don’t feel like it had the hardest lines throughout its verses
gay z and cock a fella def brings it down, nas a fantastic lyricist going to gay jokes…
@@CDTVProductions Ether and Back to Back are so similar on this topic. They are arguably the most iconic disstracks of their generation. I think because they are catchy too. But the lines are good but not exceptional
Ether is just gay jokes
@@h_ct_r nah back to back isn't as heralded as the story of adidon
Great video. Hit Em Up isn't lyrically the best but back then it wasn't many rappers that went straight at people naming names. Alot used subliminal shots. Pac's disses were straight to the point. What makes Hit Em Up even more iconic is that the opening lines has alot of backstory to it. Faith Evans flew out to LA to record Wonder Why They Call U B*^*ch for the All Eyez On Me album. There are various pictures together and this is after Faith found out Biggie was cheating on her with Lil Kim and other women. So adding this line to the song whether true or not, made Biggie question everything and it got under his skin. I do however believe they hooked up, the photos seem like she was definitely into him.
Also more to the story, is the original Hit Em Up was a much weaker diss record recorded in 1995 for All Eyez On Me. You can find that on UA-cam labeled as Hit Em Up 2 despite being the predecessor. The song uses the same beat but a more sampled heavy and plain version of the beat and all new lyrics. Faith heard this track when she was with Pac and ran back to NY and told him about the song, and the sample. Then Biggie and Junior Mafia did a remix to Get Money, which is essentially not even a remix but more so a part 2 type track with new lyrics and a new beat that also sampled the same sample in Hit Em Up from Dennis Edwards. From there Biggie added Get Money lines in there due to the song reference. Pac got wind of this later on when it was issued and remade Hit Em Up months later and then proceeded to use the Get Money line in the new version but twisting it to say Take Money. So that was a shot at Biggie within itself.
The Outro is crazy long, which is the case for alot of Pac outros. But most Pac fans like me love longer outros and interludes like this. Just the pure aggression and tone is what makes that outro so enjoyable.
SUPER FACTS
Its always the backstory that tells the difference in between tracks
The outro alone is deserving of S tier
Ngl sayin Ether is B-tier is a huge L
Would love to see more of these, gives you an opportunity to discuss a lot of different topics artists and eras at once
I think you should've added Biggie's "Kicking The Door", 50 Cent's "Back Down", "Common's "The Bitch in Yoo", Jay-Z's "Super Ugly" and Nas' "Don't Body Yourself" ¿Maybe for a Part 2?
Also Dude you should've put Eminem's "The Sauce", "The Warning" and if you really want insults "Quitter" that's the most disrespectful diss Em ever wrote.
Yeah, Quitter has some straight up punch in the chest (pun intended) insults
Don't forget Nail In The Coffin! That's one of the diss tracks I most was looking forward to seeing him talk about in this video. Ah well, next time I hope.
If you really think that Quitter was bad you probably don't know that Ass Like That was Diss
@@joecool3599 well ass like that is fire and it’s a joke lmao
2002-2003 Eminem was a savage on the mic. He always was, but damn I think that might’ve been his peak. All the disses, leaks, mixtapes, and features he absolutely killed. Also, don’t forget Jadakiss “Checkmate.”
CDTV, I liked this video a lot but I almost clicked off when you put “Fuck Bow Wow” by Soulja Boy above Ether by Nas. I mean really?
Lmao
I’ll still be watching, but this tier list definitely makes me look at Cd’s rap knowledge a lot differently lol
I’d put “Fuck Bow Wow” above Ether too. One of the best disses evar!!!
Let’s not forget Souljah’s “beef” record dissing the Migos either. Who could forget such searing lines: “Fuck Quavo, fuck Migos, pull on your block with the Draco”
1985 by J.Cole is so under appreciated as a "diss track" because he doesn't even diss anybody but he just describes how Smokepurpp/Lil Pump are going to fall off while he'll still be in the game for a long while to come and he actively gave them advice in the song and literally everything he said came true
It's not really a diss track tho
It was never meant to be a real diss track, per se. But what it ended up being was a literal hex on the careers of Lil Pump, Smokepurpp, etc. Which i guess makes it even more brutal than a diss track, but also much more subtle.
@@demarkus_the_ogre goddamn it you were right so I edited my comment but now the heart he gave me is gone lmao
It's more of an observation/warning than a diss track but I can see where you're coming from.
It didn't really take a genius to know they're going to fall off
They're just hype
3:55 this sample was also used on a DOOM song called Yessir which is basically just Raekwon spitting one of his best verses ever for a couple minutes. Totally worth a listen
Thank you for commenting this
That sample was first used by Big Daddy Kane in Ain't no Half Steppin
@@eenpersoon2881 no, Cutmaster DC;s Brooklyn Rocks The Best in 86 is the first studio recording to use the UFO sample.
Look up ESG's UFO. Classic track and sample
I really like Ether, i agree theres some lines in there that could’ve been better but i just love his aggressive delivery and directness on the track
the funny thing is apparently the unreleased one was gonna be a lot worse but the record maker told him they wouldn't publish it or sum
I think your tier lists are some your best videos. Lots of room to discuss certain artists, eras, tracks, subgenres, albums, and other aspects of the rap game.
Ooooh catching this early. I liked your first tier list a lot. Our tastes differ in a few key ways (I love Gunna lol) but I always appreciate how well you explain your opinion.
Tierlist videos are great, I'm looking foward to the end of the year, hoping that you'll do another every top 50 rap song ranked type video
A part 2 would be awesome. Too many good ones left off that a part 2 would basically be required
Time for more CDTV. This is gonna go hard🥵
i’ve been watching you for so long you are underrated
Hell yeah, would love to see more of these tier list. Good shit
Complete agree with you in Take Over, great video!
Hit em up is by far the most BRUTAL diss in history of rap. Nothing can touch the damage that had caused
You know your rap history!! Proud of you my guy! Much respect ✊🏾
been subbed to you for a while, years even
but i haven't seen your content in a long time! really glad to see you pop back into my feed! :D
also your tier list content is fun! would watch more
Story of adidon is one of the greatest disstrack of all time but 50 cent did what PUSH wasn't able to do. 50 snatched Ja rule with BACK DOWN when he was quite literally on the top of the industry.
However much I’m not a huge fan, Drake was also on top on the industry when Story came out
Love the background. What an amazing flat you live in.
I’m not a fan of Drake, but that world tour/girl’s tour line was just a set up for ‘that’s not what she meant when she told you to open up more’ which is a bar. Whoever wrote that shit got a pen fr 💀🔥
Definitely not Drake
While Hit Em Up is more iconic, I think 2Pac's Bomb First is the coldest, most brutal diss track he ever released, sounds like straight up murder.
Bomb First is a better diss while Hit 'Em Up being the better song and the more iconic track with a catchier beat.
why is the greatest diss track of all time, Big Weenie by Eminem, not on here?? unsubscribing immediately
nice video keep it up
Love yo knowledge on oldschool rap
We need more tierlists!!!
I was so looking forward to hearing you say the vocal sample on Takeover was LAAAAME. I was not disappointed!
please do more of these!!
CDTV BACK AGAIN and I now need to update the subreddit
Hit ‘Em Up is just so iconic and as you said the details are amazing. I also love Pac just letting The Outlawz take over the song as him saying “you aren’t on my level I’ll let the juniors take over”
Great video
Back to back goes hard man
Yo @CDTV you ever considered doing a recurring series covering Underground rap and rappers on the come up. Additionally you could do a bracket of popular rappers based on there music from before they made it.
Great list but I feel like Second Round KO by Canibus should’ve been included on this list. I personally think it’s one of the greatest diss tracks of all time. It being target towards LL Cool J and Canibus’s first single released shows extreme bravery to go a against a rap giant like LL. Canibus gave LL a run for his money after it even though Bus didn’t blow up like he should’ve.
You might have more cash than me but…
Consistent CDC back at it again
One of the most underappreciated disses for me is "Drop a gem on 'em" by mobb deep. I mean, Prodigy responds to 2pac with the line:
"Clocks tick, your days are numbered in low digits", the track was released on 25th August and Tupac is killed in less than a month (13th September).
Add Lupe's diss for royce in part 2, that's some GOAT level stuff. S tier imo
Ooooohhhh this is gonna be a hot one
Great video as always funny scottish man. Can you please make a reaction video to suspect agb's suspicious activity album next?
You reciting the opening lines to "Hit Em Up is internet GOLD!!!!! 🤣
tier list vids are W
I would love to see another tier list.....could you possibly do a tier list of every one eminem dissed even if it's not a full diss track and just a line or 2
Surprised you didn't put DJ Quik Dollaz + Sense in the video. Definitely should make a pt. 2
I've only just found this channel through this video randomly turning up on my feed, and the video seems well put together and im going to definitely check out more of his videos.....but that accent has really drifted everywhere from Scottish, Australian, English, slight Californian and then some from the southern States in the USA 😂😂😂👍😂
My favourite disstrack is MGK "Rap Devil", it was so good he just couldn't make rap music anymore and switched genres.
Thats why he released an entire album Hip hop after the diss
@@LuciusGeronimo 🤓
@@IceglowQ stating facts is nerdy now. K den
The dude is goofy as hell idk how you can take the shit serious
I like Eminem’s kill shot but damn I wish you chose another Eminem diss track, that’s one of his more average ones in comparison
Iv only it was nail in the coffin or the warning 🥲
In terms of aggression? Sure, not his best
But as a disstrack? The entire thing is a rebuttal. That's battle rap at it's core, I just took everything you said and flipped it, even your best lines
That's something many of these great diss tracks weren't capable of and it took someone with battle rap history to do so. It's a lot better than people think it is
@@sultan788 no I agree I think it’s great for what it is, but mgk didn’t give enough to rebuttal really, so Eminem couldn’t really show how far he could go with it since there weren’t any scathing disses to respond to
I swear, it's good but people see so many word play and layers and they think it's better than his other disses. Even Bully is better than Killshot
Cdtvproductions what you should do when you recover from Covid is react to the Adam Calhoun and Tom Macdonald collab album that dropped about 6-8 months ago (btw can't wait till you get better)
CDTV time lessgo
this video is better than what you've been doing lately
glad you enjoyed it, you wanna see more tier lists⁉️
Goat hip hop UA-camr
Tweakin on ether placement 😵💫
Actually in Hit Em Up, the Take Money adlib is a reference to Junior MAFIA's Get Money
I would be thrilled to see all kinds of Tierlist stuff from you, especially because you can always bring ur opinion Abt either good or bad tracks on point
And maybe even a continuation of best albums you heard this year?? :D
I never realized the Story of Adidon used the Story of OJ beat, I’m not sure how I never realized it
Man everything you said on takeover was so true, and then you broke my heart when you talked about ether
Hey CDTV, I’d love a reaction video to JIDs new album, just a thought for a video
Hii man , thank you very much for your lovely CONTENT!! I have a request that please make a video "top 10 most heart breaking songs by Eminem!! I would if you do ! Thank you and have a very nice day
if you're not a fan of what "Truth" popularized, it might feel good to know that Gucci isn't a fan either, he recently dropped a song lamenting how he "started a trend" by dissing the dead
more tier lists!!!
You gotta show the Tier board way more in your videos!
I think nail of the coffin, the sauce or go to sleep could've been there instead of killshot or even next to it other than that, nice video!
Live by Yo Rep by Three 6 Mafia, Thuggish Ruggish Bustaz by Tommy Wright III, and Big Mama by Roxanne Shantae are great underrated disses.
Loved your breakdown! That was great. BUT - ETHER is S tier. I'll defend that haha. And I don't even love Nas like that.
You know a CDTV banger, Back to Back was crazy how he turned a hit track to a hit
"Why is he talking about beating superman, hes not from Compton"
Genuinly one of the funniest lines in the channel
I see CDTV, I immediately click.
So I could be mistaken but I have never heard you mention $uicideboy$ and was wondering if you would ever consider doing a discography breakdown, or at least some reviews of their albums, I like hearing your opinion on a lot of the artists you talk about, I even like x and understand your perspective on him completely not to mention you talked of him very respectfully when he passed so props to you, keep making amazing content, and hopefully you take my suggestion into consideration :)
He has a first reaction to them on CDTVthaG.
Two of my favorite diss tracks: "What's Goin On" by Tweedybird Loc and "Dollaz & Sense" by DJ Quik.
It's 5AM and I just cackled at "Frozen Water"
Missed the one of my favourites T-shirt Buddens by lil b some dated language and not the harshest disses but the fact he made it in 15 minutes and is legendary and stands the test the time
I can't think of F Compton without thinking about the YTP edit dissing youchuw. So, I think that should say something
Also the Royce & Lupe beef not being on here is :(
I love k!llshot as a some. His flow was just incredible. He wasn’t rapping face but was still intense it just flex like a huge flex
Maybe there could be a video for diss tracks from 2019 to this year.
Blew my mind with the Takeover ranking ngl
And ether and real muthafukkin Gs tbh
Do a part 2!! throw in an older eminem diss like Bully or Nail in the Coffin
I would have loved to see where you would have place some of the all time classic Chicago drill disses like Computers remix or maybe even No competition. I know they aren't super mainstream but they are undoubtedly some of the hardest hitting disses ever. People literally DIED behind them.
Can't agree with the Tim Dog placement but you're points are valid and in my opinion the delivery makes go to at least b tier
I think maybe not best but most well written is wraith by Mickey factz, not only does he have insane rhyme schemes and punchlines, the creativity and smart ways he flips things into disses against Royce is really impressive
Can’t wait for the next installment that has Imma Slick Rick or any other Nick Cannon diss tracks - just to have something to put below D Tier
7:04 I haven’t been in English class for a while but isn’t that smth like iambic pentameter? Like the reason it flows so smoothly is cuz the stressed and unstressed syllables are identical in both bars (or at least really close)
Huh, the first two lines do have ten syllables each.
Some tracks I'd like to see in a part 2:
DJ Quik "Dollaz + Sense" (MC Eiht diss) and "You Can't Fuck Wit a Nigga" (House of Pain diss)
Luke "Cowards in Compton" (West Coast? diss)
Common "The Bitch in Yoo" (Ice Cube diss)
Cypress Hill "No Rest for the Wicked" (Ice Cube diss)
Westside Connection "King of the Hill" (Cypress Hill diss)
50 Cent "How to Rob" (too many people to name lol)
Kurupt "Calling Out Names" (East Coast diss)
Tha Dogg Pound feat. 2Pac and Threat "NY 87" (Unreleased East Coast diss)
Twista "Suiside" (The Beatnuts and Naughty by Nature diss)
MC Eiht "Def Wish", any of them (DJ Quik diss)
Queen Latifah "Name Callin'" (Foxy Brown diss)
Roxanne Shante "Roxanne's Revenge" (UTFO diss/response to "Roxanne Roxanne")

Kool Moe Dee "Let's Go" (LL Cool J diss)
3rd Bass "Gas Face" (dissing mainstream rappers at the time like Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer)
RBX "A.W.O.L." (Death Row diss)
Remy Ma "Shether" (Nicki Minaj diss)

No clue why, I lost it when you said "Gay Z and Cockafella." Funniest fucking shit ever.
you should include the kendrick and drake disses from this month in your next video on this
The invitation, pray for him, and the invitation cancelled are iconic in their own way.
They made Crypt a lot of money which is very nice.
How do i still know those are em diss from nick cannon
You need to check out SLR 3 Steve Jobs and some of Lupe's diss tracks including the ones against kendrick that were for fun. Copies so many flows and made it look easy
I know it’s not Iconic but would have loved to see Real by Freddie Gibbs on here. Amazing track and a diss song with a beat switch.
Also Still Disappointed is great.
Bro really invalidated his whole list with the Ether ranking.
