I had ombré hair a few years ago and the salon director used this technique. EVERYONE was watching him work as I sat there with a nest on my head 😂 it turned out so beautiful though.
I used this technique yesterday in salon saved me time and looked amazing after wards. I also did your Rachel 2000 hair cut and the feathering came out perfect. Client was happy I was happy a very good day. Thank you so much. Xx
Hi Carmen wonderful so pleased this video is useful to you also if you have a client with fine hair or a sensitive scalp the air touch Balyage technique that I posted on Sunday is extremely useful
This technique changed my life ! Gave me such balayage confidence. It’s really useable as well. I managed some very light balayages with this too. Brings back memories!
I just used this technique to a client with straight asian hair and turned out so nicely blended! Thank you James, you have a wonderful UA-cam channel, cheers from Newcastle! ✌️💯
How to retouch them, because possibly we won't be getting the exact parting next time and while back combing we will end up with some dark hair n some processed hair. How r we going to decide the developer so that we don't over process the old hair
How do you get the teasing out? Do you wash the whole hair after the bleach is processed and then try to detangle the wet hair? Am I supposed to just wash the bleached parts out and leave the teased part dry? I'm sad you didn't include that in your video but other than that: very informative, thank you
I thought lesson very simple rules in terms of backcombing only time back home once or twice dependent on how much I want to tease the hair I then don’t try and remove it before I shampooed and conditioned and town and I want to attend the hair I recondition it and remove the backcombing at that point obviously if you’re going to do it restretch which is unlikely when you can about coming technique you will need to remove the backcombing at the point of conditioning the first time round hope that helps
Great video 👍🏽 I did this technique a couple of weeks ago combined with roots touch up.. I wasn’t totally sure I was doing it right due to lack of experience, but hey I did it exactly like you **ahem ok almost! Still great results & client happy!
I succesfully applying this tecnique to my client , only different I used permanent colour and the result is amazing, i hope you dont mind tagging you on my instagram, i wanted to share to the world how amazing you are as stylish & educator , many many thanks Mr Atkinson.
Absolutely love it but it looks like you didn’t bump up the developer in the front. It’s a bit darker. Not a jab, just wondering. Could have been the lighting
The secret is Lisa is to just do one stroke of the comb it’s not padding like an updo it’s just to defuse the hair Go for it you’ll be fine use conditioner to get out there any backcombing you create after you’ve washed off the colour 😁👍🏻
I would like to see a video to help me stop red or any other color from bleeding onto my highlights of I do them all at once... Hello please... PS I love your voice and accent
Hi James , when would you use surface balarage , as opposed to full saturation balarage .is it when you want more lift. and to prevent spotting on straight hair .
Hi Alex so for saturation techniques tend to give him a lift to more lightness where is surface painting techniques and more for creating texture and contrast in Hair to give it the illusion of movement
Heather G thank you, bleach wise I am reviewing affinage ammonia free ice blonde. Yes I do use blonde idol high lifts I like them. shatush sounds fancy hey! 👍🏻😁
I have curly hair how can I do balayage on my own hair? Do I wash it before bleaching? How many days after washing should I do it? Should I tease my roots so theres no harsh lines?
Hi thank you for your question as I mentioned in my previous comment very difficult to me to give you concise information now generally speaking you don’t need to wash your hair before Beeching and yes you should tease the root area to avoid Harsh lines
30 vol on this Particular technique, no o don’t generally talk about colour choices on each video because of the Variability of each clients hair In the New Year I will have a load of videos based around, colour choices and pro oxide level choices 😁👍🏻
If you’re doing and yourself his best just to keep the technique the same all the way through that came the sections saturate the ends one third of the way of the hair from the ends
Yes you can use permanent to tone with The only downside to permanent toning is that the colour is more alkaline and creates more damage generally than an less alkaline Demi permanent 👍🏻
With a back combing technique or any full saturation technique as in the video you want to get the product all the way though because you are going for maximum lift, However If you are doing a traditional Balyage technique then no you’re right you don’t want to get it on the other side this is about brush angle and saturation control I’m going to go video on it you’ve inspired me thank you
Wonderful glad you enjoy using this technique I do have a tip on how to remove the backcombing when doing a technique like this actually made a video on it ua-cam.com/video/PGWbBL_AzJ4/v-deo.html
Ugh, I remember googling this when I could google “shatush” when I was looking up ombré in 2011 ..... years ago and it was super dip dye looking. If u just put a microfine weave in btw each of those 2010 ombré pieces u put in it won’t look like that. Honestly, this is Foilage to me.
Shockalockabocka There are so many names starting around for these techniques I think we just need to try and keep it simple and define the effect on the hair rather than the actual application otherwise this makes it difficult for clients to understand and hairdressers get confused too, Balayage multidimensional with highs and lows creating natural highlight effects With definition Contrast on the ends. ombre fading dark or light at the end. As I’m sure you are aware that these are the techniques that I know there is a lot of confusion out there. ✌🏻
Generally speaking I do my root shadows and toning after the lightning phase unless I’m covering gray sometimes I’ll put my roots on first then doing your toning and root shadow after your lightning is always a good opportunity to correct any small mistakes you may have made in your lightning process equally
Would you use this back comb technique on a person with courser hair. If not, what would be the alternative. As a person with very coily hair, the idea of doing that on my hair is terrifying, lol. The detangling process afterward seems like it would be a nightmare.
Yes backcombing very coarse curly hair can be very very difficult to get her afterwards so my advice is potentially using a highlighting technique and then going back in and putting a root stretch in afterwards that way there is no need to worry about the backcombing and you can get the desired result I appreciate that’s a Two-step process instead of one then toning but you will certainly make your clients life a lot more pleasant when they’re in the chair. I hope that clears it up for you best James
I have straight dark Asian hair and someone at the salon tried to use a similar technique on my hair for a balayage. Apparently my hair was too “slippery” and the tease wouldn’t stay put. I came out with horrible demarcation lines everywhere that I had to go back in for an attempted fix but the lines are still there.
Sorry to hear you’ve had a bad experience at The Salon! Some hair is too straight to back home that’s when something like Air Touch Balyage comes into play that would work much better if the hair was too slippery to back home.
I had ombré hair a few years ago and the salon director used this technique. EVERYONE was watching him work as I sat there with a nest on my head 😂 it turned out so beautiful though.
Wonderful glad you had a great experience
I was looking for inspiration for myself but this makes me want to change professions! Love this! Amazing technique!

I have been struggling with what to do with a client with fine straight-ish hair! This is it!!!
Hi Carmen wonderful so pleased this video is useful to you also if you have a client with fine hair or a sensitive scalp the air touch Balyage technique that I posted on Sunday is extremely useful

Your back combing is so gentle,, back combing frightens my hair so bad, some hair dressers really go at it xx my corse hair just screams out in pain 😂
Yes Lauren there is absolutely no need to go at it so vigourously one long stroke of the comb will do the job perfectly 😁👍🏻

My pleasure James! Yes exactly as you described paint to the edge of the file then paint back up towards the tease
Just found your channel! Love it. Keep it up! Subscribed!! Love from Belgium
Wonderful I am very pleased you enjoy it 👍🏻😁
I succesfully applying this tecnique to my client , only different I used permanent colour and the result is amazing, i hope you dont mind tagging you on my instagram, i wanted to share to the world how amazing you are as stylish & educator , many many thanks Mr Atkinson.
Can you leave sections out if you don’t wanna look as blonde or is that gonna look weird overall?
I would say if you didn’t want it as blonde you should only colour every other section
Hi Love it, please can you just post the formulas and what brand you use. Thanks
Thank you for the comment Christina, In this particular episode are used Redken shades EQ 8C 5 g 9GB 35 g 8VB 1 gram 😁👍🏻
This is a great technique. I can’t wait to try it.
I just think you are so wonderful!!! thank you for sharing your incredible knowledge. if you only knew how much I appreciate it !!!
Oh that is super kind of you to say Jennifer I’m so pleased you’re enjoying it 🖤😁
Absolutely love it but it looks like you didn’t bump up the developer in the front. It’s a bit darker. Not a jab, just wondering. Could have been the lighting
Great work. Thank you for education!
How far up do you go all the way around for a sudtle look I love this want to try it on my own hair to afraid I can't get it in the back
I would say probably about one third of the way up the hair is a safe bet
Another great technique! Thank you for sharing.. what's the tune in the video? Really love the music u choose on ur videos.
Erica B. Thank you Erica, my pleasure, sorry I can’t remember the song name sorry I use this website call epidemic sounds for my music.
Growing my roots out to do this. Can't wait. Fortunately it grows like la weed
Loved your video, too bad I saw it after applying the bleach on my hair so I might might messed up but you're really teaching me useful stuff
Wonderful glad that you found this video useful as you say shame you already applied the beach but next time you will know exactly how to go about it
I’m always frightened to try this method, in case it make my hair too knotty and struggle to get them out!
The secret is Lisa is to just do one stroke of the comb it’s not padding like an updo it’s just to defuse the hair Go for it you’ll be fine use conditioner to get out there any backcombing you create after you’ve washed off the colour 😁👍🏻
Good god I love your channel 🙏😍😍😍
Thank you very much Kelly glad you enjoy it
I would like to see a video to help me stop red or any other color from bleeding onto my highlights of I do them all at once... Hello please... PS I love your voice and accent
Yes superb when I get the opportunity to make that video will

Hi Alex so for saturation techniques tend to give him a lift to more lightness where is surface painting techniques and more for creating texture and contrast in Hair to give it the illusion of movement
Can I rinse the back first then the front ? Since I'm immature and want to do this at home.
Excellent results, especially on straight hair! Flashlift 20vol? Do you use the Blonde Idol Highlifts? Love the term Shatush 😁

What volume peroxide are you using, on bleach applications you do not ever mention the volume you use?
30 vol on this Particular technique, no o don’t generally talk about colour choices on each video because of the Variability of each clients hair In the New Year I will have a load of videos based around, colour choices and pro oxide level choices 😁👍🏻
How can I use this technique for a client that loves wearing her hair up ?
this was great. Thanks a lot. I'll use this with my wig making!!
Gia Blonde fantastic I am very pleased I could be of assistance to you 😁👍🏻
What if I don't want so much saturation could I just hand paint a v shape on the hair instead of fully saturating each piece?
So do you not have to feather it in at the top of the foil for line of demarcation just asking because I trying to do my hair
If you’re doing and yourself his best just to keep the technique the same all the way through that came the sections saturate the ends one third of the way of the hair from the ends
What level lift did u achieve after an hour?
What kind of comb are you using?
what comb do you use ?
another great video, big thumbs up from me😁

Can we tone with a semi permanent or permanent color? Because where i live they dont know what is a toner 😣
Yes you can use permanent to tone with The only downside to permanent toning is that the colour is more alkaline and creates more damage generally than an less alkaline Demi permanent 👍🏻
@@TheLifeOfHair ohh ok thank you!! Because im gonna receive a black hair doll and if i do a permanent color will i be able to bleach again?
