Hey girl I got my surgery date finally!!! Sept 6! Guess I will be finding out soon about the whole foot itching problem, lol...I cannot wait to be out of this pain! #amputeebuddies4life
I love your videos!! I had a below the knee amputation this past May. I like u had had several surgeries on my ankle. I crushed my heel in 2006. I have had numerous surgeries, on April 23rd I had my 3rd fusion surgery. 4 weeks after I developed a sever infection which resulted in my amputation. My husband and I have talked about amputation over the years due to the constant pain I was in, well the choice was made for us after I developed the infection which had eaten away most of the muscle in my foot, I didn’t know I was developing a infection due to I was still in a cast. I got up one nite to use bathroom and blood just started pouring out my cast by my toes. When my cast was removed it looked like my foot had exploded!!! Watching your journey has helped me so much!! Hoping to start the process of getting my prosthetic this coming week!!!
You are almost to 100,000 subscribers!! I just noticed that when I watched your video. 😊 I never thought about not being able to itch your other foot. You definitely need a long back scratcher.
We've had this conversation before on this channel. And believe it or not I literally think of you every time I scratch my foot with the other one. I said it before and I'll say it again. You need to partner with the creator of iWalk and make the iScratch. A bedtime prosthesis whose "sole" purpose in existence is to scratch the other foot. In the meantime while you wait for technology to catch up to your needs just duct tape a back scratcher to a yardstick and keep it beside the bed.
Footless Jo! Interesting regional dialect! Apparently in Colorado you itch an itch. In the Northern Territory we SCRATCH an itch. Differences are interesting! love Steve Holliday
Congratulations, Jo, you are the only person in the world who can say itch instead of scratch and not drive me crazy. LOL. Cute video, by the way. Laughing at or with ourselves is such a blessing. Love you.
That's good to hear! I hear different thoughts on this all the time - some people say it never goes away for them, and others say it disappears! That's cool to hear yours is gone!
@@FootlessJo It's time to ask a deeper question. It seems there's two ways this can be annoying... Existing foot itches, you attempt to scratch with ghost foot and nothing happens. (If I understand you this is your plight in the video) The other case, ghost foot itches, you attempt to scratch it but it isn't there to scratch. I can see how both would happen. And I can see how the second scenario could eventually go away when ghost sensations go away. But I don't see the first problem ever going away. Lefty is always gonna itch, end of story. I'm thinking this may account for different amputees saying it will or will not go away??? Perhaps the paradox is that they speak of a different issue in the first place??? Even so, even if the ghost itching did go away, the inability to scratch the actual foot is annoying, but may not be as annoying if/when your brain is finally convinced you don't even have a right foot and it doesn't give you false hope to attempt a scratch.
The bottom of my foot started itching and i started relieving the itch with my otger foot. When i realised what i was doing i laughed to myself. Power of suggestion! Lol!
OMG! Yes! I’m a LBKA as of 5/10/19 and the struggle is real. My biggest grrrr thing is when I’m trying to kick my right shoe off and it takes a couple of tries to remember this isn’t gonna happen.
This was prob the most useful vid for those considering amputation, as I doubt you heard this discussed much when you were in the process of making the decision. Major major thanks for giving people the advance notice!
I imagine that would be the most annoying thing in the world. I hope you are having a wonderful day Jo. Lots of love commin your way. ( just get a back scracher and leave it up by your pillow for when that happens again)
That would be so annoying! Haha. I guess it makes a lot of sense though; you've experienced over 20 years having 2 feet, and now only a few months without it. Glad you can laugh at these things; I think it's helpful!
Footless Jo it might seem silly or frivolous, but for someone who is not going through the same thing as you (or others like you in this little UA-cam community), it really helps to create a nice reference point. Makes it super relatable. Plus it is funny, in a tragically frustrating “I can’t sleep without itching my god damn foot” kind of way.
Jo you’re so positive and have been one of my go to people for info about living as an amputee. I had my left leg amputated 3 weeks ago and I’ve found lots of answers from your videos!!!! And yes I have the foot itch problem too lol.
Thank you foot for being able to itch my other foot Not thank you knees, hips and ankles for my bones all being in the wrong place I can’t remember what it is called but it is annoying because I twist my ankles way more than most people I have a fear of tripping because I land so weird and I really really hurts my feet also stick out diagonally and I have knock knees because of it yeah it’s annoying and painful But I could have something much worse so I am glad I don’t
I can't imagine how this would feel, but I understand how frustrating it might be. This might be the opposite of what you experience, but you might find it interesting. I was having some foot pain and went to see a podiatrist. She offered to inject her 'special' cocktail of various pain relieving ingredients to see if that would help. Unfortunately, my foot and most of my calf went completely numb for nearly 4 days. I could see that it was still there, but had no sensation. I would kick into things and not know it, only to find cuts and bruises later. I would fall over while walking at times too. Luckily, it returned to normal. I did not go back to see her either. I suppose (and hope) in time, your phantom itching will subside as well. Take care!
Try this: I don't have toes on my left foot, and sometimes I feel an phantom itchy on them. When It happens, I put a mirror (actually the open door of my closet) beside my right foot, the one I have toes on, so It looks like I have toes on mi left foot too. After that, I scratch the toes on my right foot and, in the reflection, It looks like Im scratching my left foot toes. My brain gets cheated, and sometimes It helps to reduce the itchy. This is also used as therapy for phantom pain. I don't know if you have tried this or if It could be useful when you are missing a leg, but i hope It works for you.
Hopefully the next surgery that itch will go away along with some of those other feelings. I still get some things but the pills have helped to relieve a lot of them. Best of luck love your videos
In case I forget about it, Thank You, Jo for making me FAMOUS!!! Everybody sees my name on tbe very first screen after every vid you make! I Love It!! I'm kinda homebound for a while on account of the blood clots in my lungs. I gotta take bottles of O2 with me everywhere I go now. It's a good thing my (unofficially adopted) sister's house is only a block away from where I live. I don't need to drag the bottles very far in those cases. I sorry you get phantom itches on your invisible footie. I dunnow what to suggest to make it feel better. Let me think on it a spell, see if I can come up with sumpin. #*George goes off to his thinking room for a bit.*#
#*George peeks out the door of his thinking room and looks at the heart on the door, "Thanks, Jo. I'm still workin' on it. I'll let you know when I come up with anything." George grins big as he slips back in the door.*#
I am not an amputee but I havee no teeth on top or bottom and quit often I get really bad tooth ache s but there's nothing there. Lol Then it feels like I can feel me biting down and nothing there just thought you would like this. Praying for you.
I can only imagine what you feel like you are soo amazing I wish the best for you I’m your no1 fan LYSM you are amazing thank you for sharing your life and showing me to appreciate the little things in life I wish the best for you
Weirdly today I do! Usually I do not! Phantom pain doesn’t mimic the ankle pain I had - which I’m so grateful for. But every now and again I feel like the nerves “remember” like today and start firing and I feel really similar pain.
I don't have any phantom sensations from my foot, but then I was only three when I lost it. I think the most annoying thing about being an amputee is being unable to wear my prosthesis because of an infection. I am so so so thankful to the person who got me an iWalk. While it's annoying not to wear my leg,m the iWalk makes it much less annoying. (wait there's more!) Another annoying thing is leg cramps at night. or stump cramps!
I’m not an amputee but my guess would be the worst thing would be the lack of sensory input from the missing limb or like u said phantom itching that would drive me insane 😖
This may sound gross and likely in horrible “taste,” but it may be of some research value in learning more about the phenomenon of phantom sensation. If someone that is intimate with you were to put the residual in his/her mouth, where would the phantom foot be in term of sensation?
So Jo, you seem to have a lot of problems with your feet being itchy. This is the second or third video you’ve posted on it😂😂 Anyways love you and keep up the great work
Hey Jo have you tried moving your existing foot up and using your opposite knee to scratch it. Im not an amputee but this is how i always scratch my feet in bed (just a weird thing I do) and theres no sitting up required.😉
When I first got my lower left leg amputated, I tried to get up out of bed and run from a wasp that had lovingly landed on my bed. Yeah, kinda forgot to put on my prosthetic and landed flat on my face. I laughed so hard at myself. Still makes me laugh to this day.
Get one of those extendable back scratchers to scratch your foot with- extendable, because it can be smushed back down to a smaller size and be conveniently placed in a drawer.
I scratch my other leg when I get phantom itches. I also feel like my leg is there and want to walk on my invisible leg sometimes, the feeling is so real.
I have two feet, but I still itch them by hooking them over the side of the bed and itching on the side of the mattress lol. Does you bed allow for that?
Since I had a breast reduction a few years ago, my boobs have zero feeling. The skin is totally numb. However, they still itch! The absolute worst sensation ever is itchy boobs when scratching is utterly useless. The itching feeling doesn't go away because it's just a weird nerve thing. Ugh it sucks.
stuff like that would be annoying! :). I am not an amputee but I always have to itch with my hand, i've always had long nails and anything but my nails just doesn't to anything for an itch and it can never be though clothing its always gotta be long nails on skin or it does nothing for me...
Number 1 #amputeeproblems 😂 have you woken up with your lil leg floating in the air? I’m AK and keep forgetting that I can’t cross my legs unless I’m wearing my prosthetic 🤦🏼♀️🤣😂🤗

The most annoying thing for me as an amputee is the fact, I should have grown to be six foot seven, but I lost a foot when I was three. (Groan?)
Note to self: an amputated body part will still itch, but you won't be able to (easily) scratch the itch after amputation.

its certainly a chance haha!

As long as you are enough awake and don´t try to rush to the loo in the night I feel safe for you at least.
Haha I do the same thing all the time lol
