    Very enjoyable, and if that's a preliminary review, Wow! Useful to see it compared to other watches. I had discounted it as being too big, but it looks to be in the range of the 9052, so I might have to get this one. Dang it! heheh. Looking forward to your "full" review of this watch, particularly wrt vibration strength. Thanks, Doug!

    I have a queston. Now we are (where I'm at) waiting for GSW. GBD however is a niece and cheaper watch, which I am looking into, because a) i like Casio G style and b) I am looking for a watch that allows to monitor workout. Through out theese watches the moost thing I am interested in is can it detect activity and start to calculate calories on its own? I do have GShock mudmaster now. It only allows to calculate bazal calories + calories burned each day based on step nr. Not good enough for me. Sooo.... GSW will be able to calc bazal calories + burned out ones on a, lets say, gym, orbitrek, weight lifting, without switching into certain mode, just by detecting increaset HR and steps count? (or at least be somewhat precise?).

    • @DougFNJ
      @DougFNJ  2 роки тому

      This watch does not start the workouts by itself or prompt you to start one if you start getting active. The interface is not too difficult to work with, but I do feel this is more of a running watch and not as good for other activities. The new WearOS watch also does not prompt to start activities, but it does work with more activities, and the battery lasts longer than other WearOS watches. Being up front, I purchase the WearOS watches more for the geek factor, I actually very rarely wear them, I rely on my Apple Watch for my exercises and activities as it is the most intuitive with the iPhone. I hope this helps

    Excellent video. Got mine yesterday in the same color. So far so good. Casio definitely needs to work on the software still a bit. Primarily notifications. Too many come through with not much control. For instance i get a notification when i take a picture with my phone. That’s never happened on any smartwatch i had before. The notifications limit of 10 is way to low also and it takes a ridiculously large amount of menus and clicks to access them. Hopefully they work out the bugs because it’s an awesome watch for sure #casio.

    • @DougFNJ
      @DougFNJ  4 роки тому

      Thank you Jeremiah. I hope they let us set which modes come up first
      Weird about your notification with the camera, are you on Android or iOS? I haven’t had that happen. Also, have you updated to Software 03?

    • @jeremiahdudek3196
      @jeremiahdudek3196 4 роки тому

      DougFNJ Yep Android Samsung Note 9. Watch software version is 03. Even if they just add a higher notification amount as 10 is super low if all notifications are factored in and allow us to make it screen 1 that would be a big help #casio.

      @DougFNJ  4 роки тому +2

      The good thing about this watch is the software is updatable. Hopefully Casio addresses that in an update. They warn about that in the manual, they say the best way to avoid it is to tighten the strap.

    • @DougFNJ

      The differences when you see the same models are simply colors and variations. My guess is dealers adjust pricing to fit demand. Authorized dealers are typically selling retail with discounts. Great review Doug. I'm torn between this watch the Pro Trek PRT-B50-1 and the GBD 100. Only thing that puts me off the latter two are they're battery powered, so after a couple of years you have to
    pay to have the battery replaced and hopefully sealed correctly so it keeps it's water resistance. Already have a Suunto 9 for running, which I won't replace, so really just want a step tracker. Quick question on the H1000 though, can you turn the HR monitor off as I'm guessing that would be quite a high battery drainer even on a lithium ion?

    • @DougFNJ

    • @DougFNJ
      @DougFNJ  2 роки тому

      Battery life could be a few days if you use the on board GPS heavily, the batteries themselves last a long time. I have yet to need to replace one of my solar batters on any G-Shock. Regarding the USB connector, I believe it is gold plated to prevent corrosion.

    I have a question after watching your review: is it possible to choose which timer you want from the 5 timers or are you forced to use the timers one after the other in the order that they are on the watch.
    For example I have the first timer set for 40 mins, the second timer for 20 mins, the third timer for 30 mins, the fourth timer for 15 mins and the fifth and last timer for 10 mins. What if I wanted to jump straight to the second timer that is set at 20 mins. Is there a way to do this. Or am I forced to use the first timer of 40 mins before I can access the second timer of 20 mins?

      Sapphire Crystal, ceramic back on the Rangeman, the resin used on the Rangeman is more firm, and I think the tech was so much newer on the Rangeman when it was released, much higher premium build to the Rangeman.

    Got mine this week on Tuesday and have used on three walk/jog sessions lasting over hour each time. Heart rate close and GPS same as my Fenix 5. I charged it when I got it but only put under a lamp when not outside. Battery icon has remained full after 3 plus hours of GPS use without plugging in. Will be interesting if continues. I am only using HRM while using GPS and am not turning on notifications since not really important to me.

It lacks the Garmin Connect's functionality of selecting in the app, which apps' notifications should appear on the watch. Kind of hillarious if we mind the fact that the same entity provides the app to both Garmin and Casio. Their interfaces are also soooo alike :) Looks like Casio went on the budget and they'll need to change that.

Quality as in any G-Shock, if not for the fact that all plastic (or 'resin', how some try to call it to be polite) buttons make a bit of irritating sound at each press. Typical 'plastic friction' sound. Reviewers were clearly forbidden to mention this ;) If you pause at ca. 2:24 you'll see 'Thailand' as well.
