- Today I visited Jalan Alor, Kuala Lumpur’s famous food street. I came with a specific stall in mind but it was closed and it seemed I was instead destined to finally sample the long awaited black thorn durian. I tasted and compared Black Thorn, D24 and Red Prawn. I still prefer Musang King the best! 😅

Not to say the rest are not good, all durians are delicious but Musang king is just outstanding

Was going to get a black thorn durian for the first time but since you mentioned it tasted like cucumber and watermelon, I went down to the supermarket and got a watermelon and a cucumber instead.
Saved myself megabucks.

Blackthorn is same level as Musang King. Last time 'Jetlag Warriors' of Toronto & 'iChang RM' of Japan were also like durian.
Durian - the king of tropical fruits, only the Malaysian variant. The amazing thing about the fruit is one can enjoy various varieties and flavors. At first its pungent fragrance will put the uneducated off, but once your taste bud has learned to enjoy its 'heavenly' flavor you'll be a fan of the fruit forever.

im a local … used to love durians when i was younger ; ate it in its various forms and methods cakes cookies even with plain rice … then came a long period when i absolutely hate durians even the smell made me nauseous … now im slowly starting to like it back … the last time managed to wallop a dozen pieces … heaven …

My wife an aussie hated Durian when we had some in Thailnd. Since we been to Malaysia just for the durian, she tried black thorn, red prawns and of course Musang....now she just loves them.

Hun.. since you love the durian.. I suggest you go to DurianBB Park at Imbi nearby Bukit Bintang.. it's kind of a durian restaurant. You need to drink a lot of water after eating durian to cool the body's heatiness.

If you think you already 'graduated' street durian, please try it on the orchard, fresh drops. It taste another level (durian on the street probably 3 or 4 days old, at least)

Omg u even know about durian even more than me although I am Malaysian. But that is not that impressive to me. The most impressive part even is u like the smell of durian. Actually I have one friend from UK that describe it as " SMELL LIKE HELL TASTE LIKE HEAVEN". And most westerrner don't like smell of durian.

for first timers i recommend to start with durian cakes and get used to it before going for the real fruit 😅

Durian best to eat without glove so that you can feel the texture of the durian 1st hand...to eat Durian at the next level you need to add sticky rice+coconut milk+ a bit of salt & sugar.

The best durian is when it truly ripe and its flesh smooth, not too watery but not too hard also. Buying durian in seal packet like that, you can test the quality by touching the flesh first.

Since Malaysia has a hot climate, and durian also eats it makes the body hotter. Avoid eating durian at noon. It was really hot at that time. You can try to eat in the evening when the sun starts to dim.

@@the.yellow.princess Musang King is loud. After a while it gets monotonous. D24 is subtle, there are notes that vary. Take small bites and let the fruit play around the tongue to savor the subtleties.

Please come and try Thai durians. I personally do not like durians with too soft a texture. Monthlong is one of my favorite Thai durians.
