A quick question for Anbrin then. Explain to me how it's possible, that less than 3,000 Canadian troops with "inferior training and equipment" (and that's not just combat personnel) managed to take and hold the Panjwai district for nearly the entire Afghan campaign where more than 10,000 US and coalition forces failed (notice I included coalition forces). For those of you who don't know what Panjwai is or was, it was one of the most deadly and volatile areas in Afghanistan during the peak fighting of the campaign, and arguably still is. The US and coalition forces were forced to abandon nearly every attempt to place a foothold in Panjwai until Canada stepped in and held the area long enough to establish FOB's (forward operating bases) and eventually a center of operations for the district. Incidentally, this is also where our highest casualties were sustained during the war... Our military, despite it's size, has been lauded by foreign governments and military's (both allied and enemy) for nearly a hundred years as one of the most professional and reliable in history. Germans feared us, in both world wars as shock troopers. Allies respect our ability to do the impossible (ie. Vimy Ridge) and do so at a minimal loss of life. We are also the ONLY 1st world military that makes a true effort to rebuild and support those nations we enter under campaign, with the full understanding that not every single domestic wants us dead. The result is that the Panjwai district's population just this past year under force of their own arms pushed the remaining Taliban and other "insurgents" out and are now vigilant about keeping them out. Can you say the same for your military, can any other military on this planet say the same? The short answer is NO. These are all historic FACT, documented and in some cases televised. I am a current serving member of the CAF, I also lived in the US for several years previously, and loudmouth, self-opinionated, know-nothing scumbags like you Anbrin are a part of your country's problems. Those in the US who acknowledge their allies and appreciate them are the only hope you people have for the future. Consider that for a while...

guys biggest suggestion for training to become an infantier is do ruck marches, that means grab a big camping backpack with good support and pack it with about 70-80 pounds of kit and walk, dont start with long marches, go about 2km and work your way up from that. and good luck!
The thing is, people do not realize this is true... Every aspect of our training and Power in general is superb. We choose however to stay quiet and get things done off radar.
From what I've seen with my own eyes Canada has a very capable military that is very well trained along similar lines as the British however the u.s is more of a sledge hammer , what a Canadian or a Brit would do with very few men and equipment the Americans would chuck vast ammounts of men and equipment at

The BFT is actually 13km and its under 2hrs and 26m and immediately after that is a 100m casualty drag with someone of similar size and weight, and then a trench dig.
well, as of now the infantry is closed with a year to two year waitinhg list, however, similar trades such as Combat Engineer, Armored and Field Artillery are hiring
And for those who are saying Canada wasn't in ww1. We were not only that but we were known as the "storm troopers" because we could handle all different types of terrain and weather.

by 1939, we had our own sovereignty and free will of decision, it was Canada who decided to join the war and agreed to help britain at Churchill's insistence, our loyalty still belonged to the queen and so our territory was still part of the brit empire but Canada was half a nation of its own by then ;)

How does it work if a soldier has glasses in the CAF ,does he squeeze them under the paintball and gaz masks, and whenever you need protective lens , do you squeeze them under or can you have protective lens adapted to your prescription ? I wonder everytime i see the trainings. Can you even be in the infantry with glasses.
I was wondering the same. Apparently glasses are allowed in the infantry and need to be "conservative" in design and shape. You can use contact lenses too, but not always. Laser eye surgery is another option.
Troops were needed in Afghanistan. The troops did helped in many ways. They help train the Afghan Army & Police Forces, Another major factor was rebuilding the damage that had been caused over the years or trying to shift power back to the Afghan people and not Drug lords or the Taliban. I my opinion that will set Afghanistan up for a much better future.

No you do not need to serve as an NCM to become an officer. Snipers and Anti Vehicle Personel are not a unit but people within units like the PPCLI, RCR etc.
Dalton Nadeau You do not need to be a Chief Warrant Officer to CFR. You need a minimum of 10 years service and be a Sgt or above. There's other requirements however those are the basic ones.

They also had a reputation for being excellent shots. Also those minimally armed farmers were armed with the latest Mauser rifles and Krupp artillery
The 3 Regiments themselves are all equivalent in regards to how elite they are. However, the 3rd Battalion of each Regiment is either an airborne and air assault battalion (as in the case of 3RCR) or has an airborne and air assault company (as in the case of 3PPCLI and 3R22R). From there you can also take the patrol pathfinders course, which doesn't actually put you in anymore of an elite unit I think (unless the 3rd battalions specifically have a patrol pathfinder company or platoon), but is a very elite course and a good course to complete if you're interested in CSOR, which is the Canadian Special Operations Regiment. It's the 2nd tier special operation forces in Canada, with JTF2 being the 1st tier.
You guys remember, that the US has 10 times the population of Canada. In the extremely unlikely event of a war between the US and Canada. US would like win, however not incredibly easily. And come to think of it there are many stereotypes about americans(directed comment, you know who you are.) Less population is not a bad thing, disadvantagious, definately. But it allows for closer and ultimately better training.

There is nothing wrong with having a Captain lead PT. In fact it shows good leadership on his part. Perhaps he volunteered to lead it? I am sorry for what you went through and it is not a good mark on the CF, but to say an Officer was humiliated for leading PT. I know many officers who love leading PT.

The first war Canada ever fought was WW2 , up till then they were not a real country, but a Confederation of land ruled by the British. Plus 1812 was fought by a small British expeditionary force posted with Canada the people of the land was British. Also Vimy Ridge is a battle not a war.

Canada was an independent state before WW1 and could have said no more troops are going to fight in Europe if it wanted to Also Canadians fought as part of a Canadian corp not a British corps. in fact during the 1916 Battle of the Somme when British troops accidentally shelled the Canadians who had taken a German trench but because of bad commications word had not reached the Artillery. The Canadian PM told the British PM if it happened again no more soldiers (Continued)

a point for this is to try to pass the BFT (battlefield fitbness test). thats 12km in under 2hrs 10m

to expand a little, you can become and officer by commissioning through the ranks, however you will have to make it all the way to a CWO to do that.
