Removing shoes before entering a place is deeply ingrained in Thai culture and is seen as a sign of respect. Thai people believe that shoes carry not only dirt but negative energy from the outside world.
Thai culture about taking off shoes before entering a house or temple Because in the past (since ancient times) Thai houses generally did not have tables or chairs. Members would sit or lie on the floor, including welcoming guests. The paths were dirt or they might have to walk through muddy rice fields, so feet were very dirty (especially when it rained). Before entering the house, you must take off your shoes and wash your feet every time (every house will have a water jar for washing feet placed in front of the stairs or door). Going to make merit at the temple is the same. If you wear dirty shoes or shoes with dirt on them, other people will not be able to sit on the floor with footprints to worship the Buddha or listen to the Dhamma.
I just got back yesterday from a month-long trip to Thailand and I am missing it already! No worries because I plan to be back in mid-October 2025 for one month! Being back in the States, it’s nice to use a clothes dryer again!
Furthermore, your optimism and positive attitude is what makes me watch your videos. Idk how u can be so happy, whether its fake or not you make life seem so fun in bkk
The reason all temple especially main chappel need to take off your shoes, because 1 shoes is dirty, it can make chappel not clean 2 Thais believe that head is most sacred part, so we bow and Wai (🙏) to pay respect. As you may know there are 3 different level of Wai, level 1 for monk, level 2 for older or person you give him respect, level 3 for younger or children or pay respect back from whom Wai to you. Meanwhile foot is less sacred part of your body, so Thais will not point foot or toe to people nor things. 3 most Thais take off shoe in their house, so in temple too.
I remember watching a Hollywood movie (or American series ?) that featureed family life, then I saw a scene that a kid jump onto his bed with shoes on. That scene alone made a Thai like me fell like seizures. lol
Thank you for your share evertthing around you in Thailand < BKK> Im happy listen you say in video and respect your mind. I hope everydays everyseconds you do in Thailand give happy. And i hope your healthy strong , your job flow have no barrier . Take care .
The lack of dryer and hanging your clothes inside or on the balcony was major culture shock when I moved to Asia. The overall experience was definitely unforgettable.
I wonder when your novelty will wear off or will it ever. You are a super extrovert it seems. The people i met were just lames or weirdos, losers etc not hard to make friends if u have hobbies but most the expats ive met are not worth building a friendship from my experience
