  • We heard the news about Gibson buying Mesa/Boogie and could not resist dragging out the Single Rectifier for a wig-out with the Les Paul Custom. There's no doubt that Gibson make fabulous guitars and Mesa build first class amps... together could they be the future rock and roll?

    After owning a PRS private stock Hollow Body II, Fender custom shop "Mary Kaye" Stratocaster, Gibson 120th anniversary Les Paul standard quilt top, Fender all rosewood Telecaster, Balman Albatross, Gretsch White Falcon and dozens of others, I bought the 68 reissue for my birthday in October last year. It sounds a little bright (maple cap) but that is easily remedied by tweaking the tone knobs of the guitar and amp. I've never owned another guitar that felt this comfortable and sounded so right. Hats off to Gibson, for me this is a great guitar.

      No joke, that's what some new players on youtube are going for (the epiphone). But bear in mind this kind of expensive instrument (more of a luxury piece tbf) isn't for everyone and I'd happily play Bocchi songs with a cheap epi.

    I love my 68 with my Mesa Quad. The ebony board takes the Les Paul to another level. The 68 humbuckers are so sweet too. Strangely, with my Marshalls, I prefer my R8!
    The big win for the 68 is that the neck pickup is actually usable :)

    A bot of NY with the LP via the Messa - a lot to like about this video... A brief story: I had a friend with one of these LPs from 78' but he had stored for years while abroad and the pressure of the strings on the back of the bridge had bent the bridge into a U shape so he couldn't set up the guitar. He took it to a shop who said it couldn't be fixed, a dud, so he was gonna sell it cheap. I looked at it, told him to get a new bridge and he was happy ever after (very simple fix, but I'd never seen such a bent bridge just from long time pressure of the strings hitting the back bon the way to the tail).

      @@chordlogo I had a bone nut put in, and it was done poorly. So I decided to get a graphtech tusq nut and then put it in myself. I recommend the tusq. It took a bit of sanding to get it right, but it's a much better material, and you won't have a problem with the slots.

    Hey Mate, i know this is an older vid! I have a question, is the binding flush with the neck or is there some bump in certain areas? Some of these have that because of the black paint being thicker than lacker and when they scrape it can cause that

    • @theguitaristas

      It was imperfect as all Gibsons tend to be

    • @vnvtraining7203
      @vnvtraining7203 3 місяці тому

      Thanks for the reply as I recently picked up the Murphy Lab Ultra Light version and on the treble side near the 1-2 frets it has a bump / lip feel as the binding in my opinion was scraped a hair too much! I may return the guitar at that price point but it’s outstanding in playability and tone like yours so I’m on the fence. I’ve ordered another non Murphy lab and will see the difference then decide.
