- We heard the news about Gibson buying Mesa/Boogie and could not resist dragging out the Single Rectifier for a wig-out with the Les Paul Custom. There's no doubt that Gibson make fabulous guitars and Mesa build first class amps... together could they be the future rock and roll?

After owning a PRS private stock Hollow Body II, Fender custom shop "Mary Kaye" Stratocaster, Gibson 120th anniversary Les Paul standard quilt top, Fender all rosewood Telecaster, Balman Albatross, Gretsch White Falcon and dozens of others, I bought the 68 reissue for my birthday in October last year. It sounds a little bright (maple cap) but that is easily remedied by tweaking the tone knobs of the guitar and amp. I've never owned another guitar that felt this comfortable and sounded so right. Hats off to Gibson, for me this is a great guitar.
It's the guitar played in an anime that made me interested in guitar: Bocchi the rock !
Looks gorgeous and sounds gorgeous
Hoping I’ll be able to afford one someday
Bocchi fan hello 😅
The *Bocchi Les Paul.* But the fact it was
No joke, that's what some new players on youtube are going for (the epiphone). But bear in mind this kind of expensive instrument (more of a luxury piece tbf) isn't for everyone and I'd happily play Bocchi songs with a cheap epi.
Everyone talking 'bout the guitar, but what about Colin's playing? I'll be sure to memorise this tune man, so well played.
My dream guitar right there.
Just beautiful Gibson LP! Black and gold, never disappoints!! I have a LP Studio Alpine White and these guitars are really beasts! Cheers
Cheers Alexandre!
I lost most of my hair (thanks to the Army). But if I did still have it, I’d wear it just like this guy wears his. Total badass! Damn 😎
This is Les Paul heaven. LOVE this guitar!
i bloody love my rect o verb
Very very good fat nice prety Les Paul custom 1968 Guitar.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵🎵🎶🎵🎉🎊☕From Gibson.
Cheers Kenni! :)
what a guitar and what a superb sound! love it
Dream guitar right there, I tried converting my tokai LoveRock standard into a custom of some sorts by installing gold hardware and giving it the black pickguard
Love the guitar and the sound.. a true classic
😎👍
I love my 68 with my Mesa Quad. The ebony board takes the Les Paul to another level. The 68 humbuckers are so sweet too. Strangely, with my Marshalls, I prefer my R8!
The big win for the 68 is that the neck pickup is actually usable :)
Cheers man! 😎👍
Simply superb
Beautiful Performance of hey hey my my!
@alphawolflps thanks man that's appreciated!
One day I will own a black beauty or a 355 great playing and channel👍
Stunning LP
Thanks man!
I always dig your videos! A+ real world guitar geekery! Keep doing it. I also enjoy your greasy rock playing…big and barky, no malarkey.
Thanks man that's appreciated! 😎🙏
Thanks a alot for solidifying my decision! Sounds amazing!
You getting one?
Great song. Great playing. I am getting my 68 custom tomorrow
😎👍👍
@@theguitaristas i purchased from Thoman but had to return as guitar build quality not up to standard. I will try again but not with Thoman. Shame on them selling me such a bad quality guitar.
@@jaquesels581 That's such a shame Jaques!... what were the issues I'd be interested to know?
Beautiful guitar!
😊😎🎸
Love this guitar mate!
Cheers man... I think everyone needs a good Les Paul Custom at some point in their guitar buying life!
Lovely looking and sounding guitar, and super crackin' performance! Wish I could make my LP Studio sound that good! Guess I'll have to make do with inhilation of the fumes as it emerges from it's case until I can make it sound half decent.......could be in for a lifetime (what's left of it) of practice!
Cheers Jack that’s appreciated! My warm us trick is to bury my head in the case for at least 10 minutes and meditate while inhaling those fumes… it’s remarkable what you can sound like afterwards! 🤣👍
Amazing playing
😊🙏
A bot of NY with the LP via the Messa - a lot to like about this video... A brief story: I had a friend with one of these LPs from 78' but he had stored for years while abroad and the pressure of the strings on the back of the bridge had bent the bridge into a U shape so he couldn't set up the guitar. He took it to a shop who said it couldn't be fixed, a dud, so he was gonna sell it cheap. I looked at it, told him to get a new bridge and he was happy ever after (very simple fix, but I'd never seen such a bent bridge just from long time pressure of the strings hitting the back bon the way to the tail).
Good story man... pissed off shop assistant I bet!
Great guitar and playing.
Thanks Steve, that’s appreciated! 😎🎸👍
Wow! How did I miss this video? Sounds great, you're obviously having fun - do you still have it, Colin? I still have my original 1968 Custom - bought it from a friend in 1974 for all of NZD 800 (approx USD 550) when our band was kicking off.
Sold it a while back along with a few higher value CS guitars… lovely thing but not easy to justify hanging onto the amount it got played
Nice guitar and amp
Mate the Tube took me randomly to this older video of yours. Bloody awesome. Love it. Do you still have this Les Paul? Love it!
No I sold it a while back… it was nice but £4.5k bought a lot of nice replacements
@theguitaristas 😳hard to resist that many biscuits!
@@theguitaristasTHAT LITTLE? I was expecting WAY over six grand. Or are punds really that much more than dollars...? I've seen black beauties go for seven grand on Gibson's website.
@@samuelllakaj5439 That's just how much they have gone up in the last few years 🤷♂
Neil Young. Yay!
I have one of these. The nut was cut poorly, too low in two slots - apart from that, it's stunning. Will upgrade the nut to bone soon.
Did you put in the bone nut? Mine has a nylon nut and I’m thinking of putting in a bone or Tusq nut
@@chordlogo I had a bone nut put in, and it was done poorly. So I decided to get a graphtech tusq nut and then put it in myself. I recommend the tusq. It took a bit of sanding to get it right, but it's a much better material, and you won't have a problem with the slots.
👍🏻👍🏻
What playing. And tone. Anything else in the signal chain besides the LP and single rec?
Hey Peter, check the description box it may have been listed… but as this was an early film I may not have done it back then so as it is now a distant memory we will never know!
ENCORE… ENCORE… ENCORE!
Wow, amazing playing! I know this video is older but can you recall the weight? Was it a 10 lb (4.54 kg) plus tank or a bit lighter? Thank you.
It was under 9lb 😁
Hey man love your playing. How does the neck profile compare to your R8?
Is the ip custom thinner or the same?
Keep up the great work, kudos man🤘🤘
Cheers man!… this is definitely slimmer than the R8 more 60’s slim and the R8 is a bat! 😎👍
@@theguitaristas thanks man. Thats my dream guitar. Hope to get one asap. Love your vids. You rock 🎸❤️🤘
Love this 68 custom - is it a Murphy lab?
Cheers dude... no it’s 2019 ‘pre lab’ 68 reissue but has great ageing which was possibly his work, but looking at today’s prices about 5k cheaper! 😎👍🎸
Hey Mate, i know this is an older vid! I have a question, is the binding flush with the neck or is there some bump in certain areas? Some of these have that because of the black paint being thicker than lacker and when they scrape it can cause that
It was imperfect as all Gibsons tend to be
Thanks for the reply as I recently picked up the Murphy Lab Ultra Light version and on the treble side near the 1-2 frets it has a bump / lip feel as the binding in my opinion was scraped a hair too much! I may return the guitar at that price point but it’s outstanding in playability and tone like yours so I’m on the fence. I’ve ordered another non Murphy lab and will see the difference then decide.
@@vnvtraining7203 Let us know if you find one that doesn't have some sort of imperfection in that area!
@@theguitaristasmy 60s standard 2022 is honestly just about perfect! I’ve owned over 12 Les Paul’s and this one is very close to the 59 VOS feel, I did replace the pickups with Bare Knuckles Peacemaker 👍🏻🙌
Beautiful guitar, sounds great! Did you end up keeping this one?
No, it was lovely but I didn't keep it... check out my review of the Epiphone version a few weeks back as I talk about it.
@@theguitaristas what do you think about the Eastman SB57? Do you think they are better than the Gibson Custom Shop LP customs?
@@Qixo_ I think they would give them a very good run for the money! 😎👍
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏✊✊✊✊
It would be interesting to compare a ‘57 reissue with a ‘68 reissue.
Yes... quite different guitars though as I believe the 57 has P90s and no maple cap. If I’m ever lucky enough to lay my hands on the 57 that is on!! Cheers Craig 😎🎸✌️
1956 was the final year for P90s on Les Pauls. The 1957 (and the 1957 reissues) have Humbuckers.
Ah yes you’re right... but mostly with 3 PAF’s (not so many originals with just 2) and still no maple cap until ‘68? Cheers Craig... they are beautiful guitars whatever configuration! 👍🎸😎
@@theguitaristas Gibson do both the 2 and 3 pickup '57 reissue. It has a solid mahog body :) I'd like to hear a comparision as well, I've never come across a '57 in person.
BOCCHI!
dang good player! wish it was an Epiphone instead of a gibson
😊🙏
Does this have maple cap?
Yes, this is one is a custom shop reissue of '68 which had a maple cap. It's nice a light too about 8.5lb! Cheers.
@@theguitaristas i assume the 57 has darker sound then
@@mercyme3400 Not sure if it would or not to be honest... good question! does the maple cap make it lighter or darker sounding?... this one has a nice light airy vibe to it as you can hopefully hear, but as I say it's not a heavy guitar as far as Les Pauls go ...thankfully!
@@theguitaristas The maple cap is supposed to give it a bit more edge or bite. Basically, it sharpens the attack, from what I understand.
song name?
Hey hey my my!
I lost most of my hair (thanks to the Army). But if I did still have it, I’d wear it just like this guy wears his. Total badass! Damn 😎
😂 Cheers dude! 🎸✌️
