My father, now passed away, gave me a Longines watch he received for 25 years service. It is not running and I should get it cleaned and repaired. Watching repairs on this brand makes me appreciate the detail that went into them. Great video!
Very impressive clean and restoration. I love the simple elegance of the watch - it's similar to my 1954 Omega (266 movement), which is one of my favourite designs. You can't beat some vintage designs and this video proves my point.
I'm a huge fan of premium time-only movements like these. I've started collecting Omega Seaamaster watches with the 30-T2 based movements like yours. Most of mine are Cal. 286, but they are all very similar and real workhorse movements that you can service yourself quite easily once you've done a few. Great choice!
Great restoration. I greatly prefer seeing them brought back to their original condition as much as possible. Not into the relic/patina nonsense. So, beautiful job. The dial came back great. I'd live to see that being done.
@@alerojas2952 Which is more uncouth? Expressing an opinion that someone might disagree with, or offering up an ad hominem jab as a way to disagree with someone's opinion?
I cannot believe you were able to salvage that crystal. It’s not perfect but it’s original and I think that makes it cooler plus saves some bucks. Old things new! TY
Having a good watchmaker is essential for a collector or speculator. I picked up a Speedy Moon chronograph at a yard sale for $50, and it was running well but it had a ding in the bezel. Because Omega used slightly different bezels over the years, we couldn’t source a replacement. My mechanic removed the bezel from the watch, and the insert from the bezel. He had his metal guy fill in the steel, remove the excess by laser and refit the original insert. It is now impossible to see where the flaw had been. He’s pulled off some things that might’ve been described as impossible, so he is truly an irreplaceable asset . . .
Agreed. Longines is such an underrated watch maker, they don’t get the love and attention that some of the big boys do. But their designs back to the 40s and 50s are among the most beautiful of all the Swiss watchmakers.
I have a longines that I bought from a watch smith for $40 in Brazil. It’s been sitting for a year and I have yet to build the courage to start restoring it
Excellent job. Very very steady hands. It was impressive the way you fixed that case. The only thing I think could be improved is the volume. Maybe it's my computer but I had to turn it up and when the advertisement came up it was way louder then the video. Very nice job though.
Brilliant restoration - thank you for taking the time to put it together. Would you be prepared to share with us who you sent the dial to for painting? I have an old ladies watch and the face is in a poor state - I’d be interested in getting it painted. Many thanks 👍
Nice job on that case. Years ago I had a gold filled Universal Geneve bumper with a broken turtle lug. I sent it out to be repaired. They didn't bother to measure the lug width on the good side, so they made it 16mm, while the good side was 18mm! So I sent it back again, and instead of fixing that lug, they broke the other one off and moved it to get back to 18mm! Sheesh! Can't trust anyone to do a good job any more. I have a few dials I wanted to send out, but every time I get one back (no matter who I use) it's not what I asked for.
So all the cleaning is done inside the watch cleaning machine @6:25 and the dial wasn't done by me but by a company called 'Bill & Sons LTD, Watch Dial Restoration', so sadly don't have any footage for that :(
I just pent untold hours trying to install the click and spring. I pinged the first one and had to order another from canada. I broke the second one in the process of trying to instal it properly. Again FAIL. I ordered a third spring and now have spent over two hours with your vid, and other help from the Watch Repair Lessons Group and still a fail. I am beside myself. I cannot figure out how the "horse shoe" end of the click spring installs and interacts with the main plate or whatever it interacts with. Does the spring go in first by itself the way every other spring I have done goes? If it does I do not understand how.
Well Darn! I watched the video hoping to see the dial refinishing and that was the only thing he didn't show (I realize it was sent out for re-painting). How much did the repainting cost?
Just subbed to your channel, friend. I always enjoy watch restoration videos, especially of dial, hands and case. My amateur restoration is mostly on vintage digital, especially Casio. It would have been nice to see how you managed to get that dial so clean again.
Great video. I appreciate the lack of constant blah, blah, blah. I thought you were a little heavy on the amount of lubrification you applied to various points, but apart from that your restoration was really good.
No worries, I am working on Swiss as 340 movement.. the balance staff plate jewell is gone and so is the hair spring. Every thing else is done. Longines are a great watch.. you are very qualified, I have been at this since I had to leave my radio announcer job 25. Years ago... through 2 back ops . I love doing this work..

Nice video. Really appreciate the lack of talking and just let the viewer enjoy the visual aspects of watch servicing and restoration

Lovely to observe without needless chat. Such a satisfying thing to do - I have learnt a great deal about the mechanics
What a great job! I would like to see the dial restoration process. Congratulations!
Wow, Great work on the back, case, and that dial came out looking amazing. Thanks!
Original dial missing 'Swiss Made' but magically shows up on the clean dial.

Thank you, and yeah the dial came back looking great and I too would like to see it being done but its not something I do :)
It is quite common for uncouth people not to understand the charm of patinated dials.
@@alerojas2952 Which is more uncouth? Expressing an opinion that someone might disagree with, or offering up an ad hominem jab as a way to disagree with someone's opinion?
Patina is like Chili: Some is good, but too much spoils it all. The dial in that original condition was far too gone to be appreciated any more.
@@natecharleswatches May I ask who you sent the dial off to? It is absolutely perfect. I am in need of paying someone for this service. thank you sir.

Great video. Can you tell me who you use for repainting dials?
Was the case re-plated after the repair?
How have you repainted the dial? Show the process, please. Thanks for video - well done restoration!
I have one of these. Didn't cost much but is a gorgeous watch. Super thin :)
One of favorite projects to date :)
How did you do to restore the sphere? did you buy another one?

Thanks Darrel :)
Where do you have the faces repainted? I would love to see that process.
You are the perfect timepiece repair master. especially for handling broken watch body welding.
I try :)
How do you get the dial repainted?
Question: how much would it be the restoration for this particular watch?
I ALWAYS ENJOY THIS VIDEOS BRINGS BACK SO MANY WONDERFUL MEMORIES OF WHEN I USED TO DO THIS WORK.. THANK YOU ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH

Where do you send the dial for repainting? I have an Omega dial i want to repaint. Thanks.
Where do you send the dial to be repainted?
Hello. Where can one find a replacement dial?
Great educational documentary, an aesthetic experience! Let me suggest making a film on the necessary devices. What your shop looks like?
Perhaps when I have a nice kitted out workshop I will :)
How did you paint the face?
Although I had doubts about buying a replica watch, gussl dispelled my doubts. The watch has an authentic look and feel.
Excellent job!!
Thank you :)
Enjoyed the video. Very nice result.
Thank you :)
How was the dial painted??
Why did you put the second hand on first - surely that should be last and pushed on when the hour and minute hands are exactly showing on the hour?
Doesn't really matter as the hands can still be manually set whilst the seconds hand is still moving
Does anybody know how much a dial restoration would be? (ballpark)
is there any correcting the beat error?
Beautiful warch
Great job thank you for sharing !

Out of curiosity, how would you adjust the beat error? Thanks for the video!
You would need to make an adjustment to the collet which is fixed to the balance staff
Nice video. I wonder do you service watches for living or just a hobby?
amazing restoration. what metal do you use to repair/ solder the split on the case? is that tin ? thanks

Said in the video that it was sent off to be repainted.

Who did your dial refinish?

How do you find someone who can repaint watch dials?
Where do you send your dials for repainting?
