    my boxing coach keeps on telling me when I throw a hook, my elbow has to be higher than my wrist before landing the punch.

      +tarek J whitaker has always kept a low elbow and things similar to that just to be defensive against grapplers, makes it easier to get an underhook when someone tries to take you down, he has also fought philly shell for the same reason, so for mma it works, in boxing having the high elbow protects from punches a bit better and in boxing, a bit better is important because its only punching

      Do what feels right, relaxed and connects with power. There are many ways to throw left hook. May be your trainer recommended that for a specific context or situation

      Incase Your opponent throws a punch the same time it would deflect it and if You dió Your head more it lands way harder since Your punch it's going with all Ur weight

    isn't his elbow ment to be higher than his fist when he's throwing the hook

    • @mrbig713
      @mrbig713 8 років тому +4

      Elbow should be even or below the fist. Above, it becomes unnatural and loses some power.

      only if he wants to break his own wrist lol

      +william Rodriguez I know Dillashaw sorta does this snap hook with the elbow slightly above the wrist, albeit he's sorta unnatural/unorthadox with some of his striking

    • @mrbig713
      @mrbig713 8 років тому +2

      I agree, it changes the angle. Only I wouldn't recommend that to beginners. Once his wrists strengthen up and he learns proper form then he can vary the angles in his punches. Idk just my opinion.

      After the front kick he lowers his level. So for the hook, he is starting out from a lower level than normal, if he keeps the elbows over the wrist - he won’t reach the head
