This is the best practical channel for writing, I really appreciate you.
That is so kind of you to say. Thank you for watching!
Thank you. Easy to follow. Wish this was the first video in my search results, would have saved me a half hour of watching useless others.
I am glad it was easy to follow and wish you all the best with your Word project!
Erin, you are an extraordinary role-model teacher. Though I know Word, nevertheless, I listen and view your videos anyway because you are simply an impressive teacher to observe. Your language is crystal clear. Your pacing is marvellous. Your management of the learner is spot-on. How good are you? I'll say it his way: If I were your evaluator, I would switch roles and make YOU my evaluator! Bravo!
Thank you for your extremely kind comment. You have made my day!
@@erinwrightwriting Erin, I am responding to your "thank you" four months after the fact. Shame on me -- I rarely visit my g-mail. Forgive me for the belated response. And you are quite welcome. Keep up the great teaching!

I just wanted to say thank you for this video Erin. I was looking for an alternative to Evernote and didn't realise Microsoft Word was able to do all of this!

Awesome video, both for your impeccable presentation (you should teach how to make successful videos), and for the content. Tagging is so important for me, I used to use Evernote, Joplin, Obsidian, but they can't handle huge numbers of files. So now you explaining how easy it is to use tags in word, you really made my day, and gave me new hope. I just need to know, where does word keep the list of tags. I noticed when one tries to enter a new tag, it suggests previous tags having the same spelling. Also what is the maximum number of tags Office can handle, I would have literally thousands (maybe 20 thousand) files in a matter of few years, so I need to be prepared. Thanks in advance, and thanks a million for your greatvideo.
I appreciate your kind words! I don't think the tags are stored in one repository--at least not that I can find. Instead, I believe they are stored in the metadata for each file and the suggestions are caused by Windows reading the tags from other files stored in your computer. As for limitations, I did some digging online and couldn't find any mention of anyone hitting a ceiling, so if there is a limit, it must be impossibly high. I did, however, find this in-depth article about tags. It's older, but you might still find it interesting: karl-voit.at/2019/11/26/Tagging-Files-With-Windows-10/. Best of luck!
Thanks

Lovely. Have used Word since 1987, but there are apparently still some "new" feature, I did not know... Thanks.
It's always fun to discover "new" features! Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for this helpful video. Do you know why the tag search would be working in Word documents 97-2003 but not in Word documents 2016?
Hi, Amber. Thank you for watching my video! Do you mean that you're unable to use the File Explorer to search for tagged documents created in Word 2016?
I'm from india your very well told
Hello to you in India! Thank you for watching!

Please share a detailed of advanced mail merge functions like "if then else".
Hello, thank you for the suggestion.I will definitely add that topic to my list of future tutorials. Thank you for watching my video!
Thank you very much Erin, this has solved the problem I have at hand. What a great tutorial, covers all grounds and easy to follow! Is there a way to display these tags in the document itself? As a footnote or smth like that?
That is a fantastic question! You can insert your tags (a.k.a., keywords) anywhere in your document by selecting Insert > Quick Parts > Document Property > Keywords. Thank you for watching!
@@erinwrightwriting Thank you! Don't think it's possible for Powerpoint though, should be good enough. Thanks again for your help!
Something (unrelated) I would love for you to explain is whether or not to italicize the apostrophe and s used to make a ship's name possessive.
That is an interesting question! I have an older blog post about ship names that you may find helpful: erinwrightwriting.com/write-the-names-of-ships-and-boats/. If you italicize the name, the apostrophe s should also be italicized.
I need to create a document in word that has multiple sections, and the front sheets to have tags that connect and auto fill in the designated areas within the document pages. i.e.: Date, Name, address, etc. I want someone manually to enter the information in the table and have it populate thru the remainder pages. How do I make that connection from the label name in the table that someone entered on top page; to populate in the name or address areas throughout the document pages behind it? Is this called tags or is it something else?
That is an interesting question! I don't have a tutorial on that topic yet, however, I found this link to an older article that you might find helpful: addbalance.com/word/MappedControls.htm. You may also find this one helpful: gregmaxey.com/word_tip_pages/repeating_data.html. I wish you all the best!
Had no idea this even existed! Would this or perhaps something similar work on a Mac. Thanks!
Thank you for watching my video! I'm not a Mac user; however, if you have the Properties section in the Info tab in the Backstage view, then I don't see why you couldn't use tags also. Best of luck!
Erin Wright Yes, got it, thanks!
Hi, uhm nice tips. Please how can i make separate tabs for genres in word?
Thank you for watching my video. I'm afraid I'm a bit confused by your question. Do you want to create different tabs in the ribbon (toolbar)?
can we use this as part of DLP? to detect unintentionally file share outside of office network?
Thank you for watching! The tags described in this tutorial are intended for locating files within your own laptop or your own server. I would not recommend relying on them for any type of DLP. Best of luck!
@@erinwrightwriting Thanks Erin for your quick response.
does tags work and apply when saving a file to SharePoint?
Thank you for watching my video. In my work as an editor, I don't use SharePoint so I'm afraid I can't answer your question. Sorry!
Can you please make a tutorial how to verify your email it's all I gotta do to do my documents the reason why is I can only resend me email even tho I still the the message I really don't understand
Thank you for watching my video! Email verification for Office will depend on your organization's administration settings (for example, 2-step verification), so I'm afraid it would be difficult to adequately cover that topic in a tutorial. However, you may want to search the Microsoft Support site because it has several articles about email verification, such as this one: support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026276/microsoft-account-how-to-verify-an-email-address. Best of luck!
A question. How can the auto-suggested tags be changed? The suggested tags are never tags that I have previously used.
Thank you for watching! That is an interesting question. I have been doing some digging but unfortunately haven't found an answer to your question. You may want to pose this question to the Windows Community forum because I suspect it is a Windows issue rather than a Word issue. I hope you find a solution!
@@erinwrightwriting Thanks for your good, honest, and helpful answer.
Your article corresponding to this video was, by far, the best organized and clearest article on the topic.
