Instacart really needs to step up their game!! I was seeing great batches for the past month and all of the sudden this week has been awful! 2 full service orders for $12 um no thanks!
I agree! However, there are some people in my Facebook group who are doing really well off small batches. You can strategically accept those to a degree.

In PA I'm ordering from $250 to $300 a week. I cant understand orders under $20? I top 15% online and then hand them $40 extra tip. I appreciate the service so much.

I also live in PA. I am full time shopper (delivery and shopper). I have 1 customer that decided just do they grocery with me because instacard is charging so much.
Shopper are pay for 0.60x mile+tip.
Also if the shopper didn't find all the items instacart take the money, I lost kind of $30 per day because of this even when I take 30min looking in others places to find the items, because the stores are stocking products in differents places.
I've stopped looking at the items on the batch before I accept it, once you look the batch will be taken. I check how far away the house is from the store and go for it, anything under 10 miles is the goal! I won't go any further. I also try to avoid double batches unless it's a real good price and also under 10 miles.

The fact that these terrible batches are getting scooped up just as quick as good batches is frustrating. Like someone is doing the work for you shopping for your groceries, how dare you fix your fingers to request 70 items with very little and some cases no tip?? And why are shoppers taking those shitty orders??? Like those customers need to learn a lesson, and their batch shouldn't be selected and collect dust... that will show them to appreciate the service they are being provided, esp with shoppers putting themselves at exposure risk too. I think some crummy folks figure people are desperate so they throw any scraps and knows the order will still be picked up. Ugh, rant over. Btw, Thanks again for tips and tricks, I'll look into a new area cuz it's a dry spell where I am.
I've been getting great cash tips in no tip orders, just need to trust your gut on what to pick.
But I've chatted with customers that are ordering via Kroger delivery instead of instacart and they think I'm a Kroger employee so tip low, but I've explained them it's independent and my time and my gas and some have increased tips

I start at 6am everyday. It’s still good batches you just have to catch them.
So I get to Costco around 6 AM every morning and I absolutely love it I don’t take anything usually less than $50 every great once in a while I will take $30 batches but yesterday I got $126 batch and it was to Costco it was one of the easiest ones I have ever done and I got a $20 cash tip on top of that I think Costco pays better than most of the local grocery stores I am in Washington state and I make around $250-$300 a day you just can’t give up and you definitely can’t get overwhelmed 🥰 last weeks check was over $1300 And the week before that was a little over $1200 And that was my first week doing it I am definitely addicted to Instacart LOL

Yes it really is I am so thankful I love seeing what everybody else makes to and I love watching yours videos you should definitely start doing more Costco‘s because they usually pay more and you should get there at like 6 AM I know you said it’s hard for you to get up early but you should push yourself one day just to see how much you make it really is worth it in the end you seem to be a very determined and strong person and I would love to see what happens if you get to Costco at 6 AM and just push yourself all day long ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ and if you do Definitely Vlog it please LOL

No You do not have to do any kind of special training for Costco it’s a little hard at first because the store is just so big but once you go in a few times and shop you get used to it very quickly and then you get very fast at it I actually love doing Costco now and I was terrified of it at first
I’ve been doing DoorDash here in the Denver area for about a month and it’s been awesome! I’m easily making $25+/hr and often more. So Steph, hopefully you can get signed on with them and can give them a shot. No issues with bots since they send the order to 1 person at a time and you accept or decline. I just got signed up with GrubHub but have only gone out once so far because DD has had good promos running, so I’m sticking with them for now.

I quit doing Instacart for like a week now, because how low the payout is. But, I Think I’m going to head out and do the small batches just to see what happens 🤷🏽♀️.. It’s just not motivating to me anymore. But, I’m just going to push myself to do it.. I have like 3 different areas I go to. One area is better over the other so... may head there..😒
I think it's worth experimenting a little. I understand what you mean by it not motivating you. However, I have heard people are doing decent with the small batches. As long as you can get batches with low item/unit count you can get in and out quick. It could be worth a shot!

You can do it Steph! It took me a few times to get adjusted to getting up early when I did Lyft (I’m pausing right now and just doing IC) but it’s soooo worth it. You have your whole mid day free.

Glad to hear you found a way to make Instacart work for you in your area. Towards the end of the video was good advice. If you're dependent on Gig App income, have backups. If you gonna do gig apps, sign up, now, for every gig app you can in your area.

@@StephOnThePedal That could be a topic for a video "Have backups, sign up for as many apps as you can" Even if you focus most of your time on 1 or 2 of them, being able to switch when there's a problem with one (or you just feel like a change of pace) is all to your benefit. Being able to multi-app to keep bit busier when your main app is slow is again, to your benefit.
I think it comes in waves, I was slower $$$ wise on insta cart last week. However, two weeks ago the federal government was asking people to purchase for two weeks worth of food/needs. I work at a grocery store and it all started on a Friday!!! Today is Thursday and I am really starting to pick up today.. I am heading into week two of the pattern. Hey Steph. Love your vids. I have started with insta last week here in the nyc area. And let me tell you it's crazy saturated or there must be bots as you say. I find that this fcfs system is MORE stressful. I think I will stick to GH.

I have notice that in my area in Richmond Va that the best tiping customers are those that shop in early morning. The tip would be $10.00 or more on most batches. It was a slow day for me and I seen a lot of batches with $1.00 or $2.00 tip and shoppers would jump on them as well. New shoppers are just desperate for batches. The area is over saturated with shoppers and not enough orders
Another great video, ALdi is near me and they get orders but because they dont bag it up for you, i havent been a shopper there lol. I turned on the app to see the batches and both of them were all under $15. Florida has gone downhill for batches from what I see.

i saw something interesting this morning. Before i could swipe an order, it made me fill out a questionnaire. and today, i've been seeing batches stay up a considerably longer length of time. I was actually able to read through batches to see what types of items were needed for once. so maybe the questionnaire halts the bots from being able to swipe anything.

I've been watching the Instacart lately. Seems like I can get some work before 9 in the morning. After that batches start disappearing as fast as they show.
in newyork average batch is $40 for like 20 items. I got a batch for 40 items $195 (insta payment $50 + $150 tip)

OK so just got my approval and I am active now. I see that you go to an area and I will assume as you get into other areas you see different batches? Yesterday when I looked batches were going so quickly if you blinked you missed it. BOTS I assume. However, fulls service right now with around 15 items showing from $9 to $12.......UM not really worth it IMHO.
Small batches aren’t totally bad all the time but recently they’ve been paying so little for the worse batches, and I simply refuse to do a $13 batch that has be driving 14 miles one way or total. It’s just not worth the wear and tear/ gas. Hopefully better ones start popping up again soon and we can actually get the chance to accept them! 👏🏽

I was getting up in the morning at the start of all of this stuff and the batches were going by very fast. I decided to try the afternoon. So far it is working for me. I go out at 1 or 2pm and will stay out till 6pm. I am doing well with that plan. They are staying on just a little bit longer. I am not able to look at the order I have to swipe it and then look to be able to get a batch. If I get 2 to 3 batches for the day I am happy. I only shop at one store at this time but am also thinking about walking through another store just to get familiar with it and start taking them as well. Gives me more options. For me if I get over $100 for the week I am very happy. Being retired I can only earn so much before it counts against me.

Quick question: Even though it’s “on demand” shopping, does it help to sit in a popular area? I get batches from different areas sitting at home but i’m not sure if moving and sitting in my car in a popular area will help with better batches?

I have a question. Before you accept a batch, can you view the requested drop off time and if so where on the app does it appear?
I wouldn’t be too concerned with the drop off time. That’s not really in your control.
My strategy is to have a goal for the week, which breaks down to a certain amount I need to make for the day. I try to get up as early as possible because in the last couple of weeks, things seem to peter out by mid afternoon. If I haven't made my personal goal by then, I will hop onto Door Dash for a little while.

Indianapolis hasn't been great. I don't many over $15. If they are over, they're usually 2 batches. They've also been showing me stores and deliveries nearly 35 mins away from me. Tips have been low or non existent. I've tried the early morning stuff, but I don't see any batches in my app until 0900. I've just stopped doing IC for now.
Augh mornings tho. 😩☕️ I'll try it tomorrow and see if I get any batches. A Postmates video would be interesting. IC and Shipt got my background check done in a hurry, but Postmates is dragging so I haven't been able to try them out yet.

I am betting that if they really tracked down who is running the bots, its probably an instacart employee or ex-employee who knows the code and how it works. And instacart doesnt really care because apparently THEY get their money no matter what.
I have run across people in stores who where obviously instacart shopping on orders that I never saw come up on my phone. Meaning that they more than likely are using the bots somehow. We shoudl start taking pictures of those people and posting them somewhere (With the caveat that that isnt absolute PROOF that they are using a bot service. But catch them 3 or 4 times, and more than likely they are usingt a batch snagging bot service.)

I would have just refunded the items and then added 1 of them back in.

You do need to swipe that you've delivered after you are done. However, that batch doesn't appear immediately. It may show as pending too.
5/29/20: SoCal market is a problem as batches disappear in literally 3 seconds. You cannot look at any batch or it will be gone. Once the lockdown is are over people will return to work and the real Instacart shoppers will have more work. Most new shoppers will not continue to shop as most people need a guaranteed income of hours, or salary.
Im in Central Florida and pretty sure all of the laid off Disney employees (40,000 employees) are doing instacart. I have to swipe like a madman to get a batch. A $55 batch popped up and was gone in less than a second

I would think that they could identify in their systems what looks like a bot grabbing the batch. I would also think that if they were to attribute a number of these suspect transactions to any individual that they could further look into that individual. It sounds a lot like they don't want to.
I had 49 rating all 5 star. For some reason the last person I shopped for gave me a 2 start rating though I delived the goods 20 minutes before the expected time. That was 2 weeks ago and I haven't been able to get a batch to save my life since. I did some research and I'm not the only one this has happened to. Instacart wont last long and another company will take over grocery deliveries if they dont fix this terrible business practice. I used to think uber/uber eats was strict. But sheesh, instacart is shit. Imo they haven't been able to bounce back after the bot deboicle.if you're new you can still make good money but once you get a negative review your instacart career might be a wrap
Yeah I'm in Denver North Carolina and I have to compete with bots and other shoppers every day I was one of the 1st in that area and now there are so many it's so hard to get anything but I do pretty good I can make between a 150 to 200 A-day
I got up early today at 5:30 and went to a city near Denver Called Moorseville and was able to get a $30 cosco They start putting them out between 530 and 6 o'clock in the morning

I have a question about Postmates - I started two days ago and when an order comes in it is really hard for me to see how far I have to drive to get the to restaurant and how far to the customer. yesterday I accepted one and didnt know the exact distance and it was sooooooo far. Why would they pick me to do a mcdonalds that far away when there are mcdonalds everywhere? thanks for any advice

Hi Doll... What does it mean when it says for Example 7 items 40 units?
It means you are shopping for 7 different things but there are multiples of the items. You can see it in my video where I had 40 cans of cat food but only 7 items to pick.
In my area batches are going busy from 7-3 then nothing after that. Like zero batches after 3 consistently for the past week

You don’t have to be but I feel like I’ve had better luck getting batches when I’m at the store.

last week i apply for instacart shopper .it was aproved and they send me debit mastercard only.did i need instacart name tags & instacart t-shirt to start my first batch.
You don’t need any of that. I don’t even have a shirt.
I just recently started thinking about instacart, and jumped into the rabbit hole of UA-cam instacart videos lol but I tried to sign up they have the zipcode different then my actual zip, and it wont even let me start my background check or anything! Just says no position available and I live around the seattle area..is there something I am missing? It just keeps taking me to the tips of things or change position and tells me not available.
Are you trying to apply as a full service shopper? Apply for that, not an in store shopper. However, some locations have waitlists.
@@StephOnThePedal I did apply for the full shopper, it said both werent available. But I wasnt even able to actually fill out an application or background check. I tried the chat to have them fix my zipcode which they did since theres is different on the area list but he said I could go an refresh the app and fill out the application and do the background but it wont let me go any further. I was reading reviews in the app store and alot of people said with the latest update it's been having issues and freezing during batches. But thank you for all your videos and helpful hints
Support doesn’t always have the answers. IC has its issues but it still my favorite gig. Every gig has issues. I don’t think there’s a way to avoid the waitlist.

@@StephOnThePedal I really like grocery shopping and wouldnt mind making extra money doing it for other people, and figured there would be a good amount of openings since I dont live to far from Seattle..but I guess I will just try again maybe under a different email, since the zipcode was wrong and think it screwed me up from the beginning.

Can't even get my first batch. They show up for a split second and before I can figure out how to accept them they are gone. I'm in Florida though, unfortunately. Was yelling at you through the screen to accept the last batch quick and then it was gone. 😄

I suspect that also plays into things. That, the flood of new IC shoppers, and the bots of course.

What happens to the tip when you request two stores and have two different shoppers? How do you rate the two separately?
Those are two different shops and two different transactions so you should be able to tip and rate separately. Make sure to give a decent tip. Instacart shoppers make next to nothing on shops, they rely on your generous tips for survival. Just like waitresses only their expenses are higher.

See.......early bird gets the worm. Told ya :) We could be more selective before all these other people just signed up recently, and the bots of course. we have to drive more and be faster on the draw. Remember too a lot more people are sleeping in so a lot more people are starting later. It's all about supply and demand right now.

From what people tell me....the average payment for a batch was like $10-$14 Before the pandemic. Now that the pandemic has happened people act like those batches are beneath them. People gotta stop trying to get $30-$40 batches all the time.

I do instacart and it's slavery . I do three batches a day and I get super exhausted , and if you end up with annoying costumer all what you wanna do is break the phone.
Door Dash is my back up. It is blowing up in my area. I made $32 in an hour and a half. I don't want it to be a full-time gig, though because it is fast paced and it puts some serious wear on my car.
$32 is great! That is one reason why I like Instacart a lot. Less driving!

Mostly agree, but that’s not true for every market.
So you all I just wanted to update you on Instacart and how they are finding every reason in the book to deactivate accts bc they hired to many ppl and ofcourse the issue with the 3rd party app/Bots.
So, I was just put on the waitlist for Instacart considering I have been shopping for them for 3months now. I inquired about the 3rd Party Apps/Bots taking orders and when will it get fixed. I make this call every 2-3days. I guess they didn't like that. The next thing I know I go to the Instacart app to ck on batches and I'm on the enrollment screen and its telling me I am on the waitlist.
Although, I do feel they are downsizing bc the market is oversaturated. However, by me inquiring about the 3rd Party App/Bot kind of put a target on back. So, it is what it is. Instacart is grimy as hell. They are putting clients banking accts at jeopardy by not addressing this issue. If it was easy for the hackers to gain access to batches I'm quite sure they can just as easy gain access to bank accts.
Good News is I will be starting Shipt within a few days or so. Like I told Instacart they don't make me or break me. I never depended on their income it was a resource for just a little more cash. I am blessed to have a full time job and I own my own business. The side gigs were just a little extra.
That’s pretty crazy! I’ve had the same thought about clients personal info. That’s the biggest reason Instacart should have for resolving this issue.
@@StephOnThePedal Exactly! That just makes since and it's the right thing to do. It's a very said situation. It just pissed me off this morning when I saw those batches hit my screen and at the blink of an eye they were gone. I contacted them and inquired when would the issue be rectified bc it not just about me it's about the customer. After that dialogue I go back to ck on batches and my acct was deactivated. I contacted support again and asked why and the first excuse was "they have enough shoppers and my acceptance is pending status." I was like "what are you talking about I have been a shopper going on 4months. Then it was, they never obtain my paperwork, criminal background check etc. I was totally confused. How in the world have I been shopping w/o this. It was just an excuse. I put a target on my back and they decided they didnt want to deal with it. So, in order not to deal with it they deactivated and now I'm in their waitlist. Honestly, I feel like it is a inside job. They are aware of the issue and they are still not doing anything about it. During our dialogue support went into how batches were delivered and it have to do with location/zone etc. That let's me know they're not try to address the issue and seems like the are covering up something. So, that's why I feel... Its a inside job. They know what's going on.
Like I said it all good. I just completed my welcome package and training for Shipt. I should be receiving my card etc in the mail any day now. Look like I'm done with Instacart.
So I have a question , overall are you happy working this gig or is it a pass?
Instacart is still my favorite gig despite all it's quirks.
