I came to Albuquerque for a short stay in 2013 and never went back to my home state of WI, except to sell my home and wrap things up. I sensed immediately upon my arrival in NM that the energy here was unlike any place I've ever been. Love the weather, the people, the history, the culture, the spiritual energy, the spaciousness, the birds, the native peoples... I bought a 1940's home on 1/2 acre in an old neighborhood in the North Valley and hope to be here until I'm a very old woman!!
Did you find the adjustment from a green area like WI to a dry state like NM difficult to handle? I'm considering the same thing from the midwest. Weather sounds great other than the wind and super dry.
I am born I’m abq Nm all the wildlife here is amazing such a beautiful state it’s not like az how they just want to compete with California but nm is bye far the best state in the whole country
Welcome. I am Born & Raised in New Mexico. I am still here. Also, Not to Scare you. Ur also Now, In the “True Volcano State”. We have Every Type here. Super as well, and Marrs. Only place in the World, They can be found! U will Really love Our Sunsets,Sunrise’s Our Storms, Stars & Much more.
Really enjoyed this video. My wife and I moved out to Albuquerque from Ohio last November. We love it out here! From the weather to the mountains to the desert there’s so much to explore in New Mexico. Your right about ABQ, very interesting how in the middle of the city there’s rural farm area ie Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. Congrats on your move!
Several years ago, Mimi and I signed up for the very first Vermont Overland Gravel event, we went from being a just participant to members of a great tribe of wonderful folks. Thank you Peter.
Im a sixth generation New Mexican we have a very rich culture and a very diverse state but its going away more and more because people come and start changing us
Welcome to New Mexico!! I'm a part time van dweller living in the center of the state. There are so many opportunities for weekend getaways and my location allows me to head in every direction. Enjoy your discovery phase and congrats to your wife on her new position.
Hey Star Light, I'm not a member of any meet up groups. Perhaps you can look on CRVL (Cheap RV Living) Bob Wells' website, to hunt down caravans in NM. Best of luck
Congrats on the move! Can't wait to see what you put together for Overlanding adventures... whatever your first big trip is in 2021, I want in! Stay safe.
Yeah. New Mexico. I am from Buffalo NY, lived in California, North Carolina, traveled all over the US, but New Mexico is my Favorite. Lived there for a couple of years, and always feel homesick for the land of enchantment. Someday soon will be back.
Yay! Right on and, thank you! I needed to hear this today! I’m trading the Jeep in for a van later in the year and appreciate the reminder that a humble approach equates to more time adventuring. Stay safe and congratulations on the exciting changes!
It’s been a year since this video. I’m wondering how open is New Mexico? Halfway into the video, reference was made to the damage the lockdown did to the economy of VT vs overall health. I agree, and seek out open economies when traveling. I will visit NM, if they’re not practicing tyrannical lockdown mandates.
I was born and raised in Albuquerque and moved to the east coast, but I think about going back all the time. Nothing else has ever felt like home, it weird because you wouldn't think that when going to on the surface much nicer places with much more to do.
Good luck! Looks great. Just moved to Vermont from jersey back in the fall to enjoy nature and explore the mountains with my modified jeep tj. Was hoping to see bumble somewhere bumbling on the backroads lol.
Dude, you are pioneers, no doubt. I've been there, and you're spot on. I've even been to The Pueblo and The Turtle Dance during Christmas. Please stick it out, New Mexico is the place to be! Kim, make it happen!
Looking up living in New Mexico videos and then you mentioned Woodstock Inn. Stayed there in 2011 for a wedding I attended. That place is absolutely amazing and stunning with all the snow!
That explains Bumble and Wilson on a car carrier rolling down 90 west in NY a few weeks ago haha. Minimal plannings how I roll too. More info on some trails and dirt bag camp sites are always welcome. We have a nephew stationed in NM, might have to hitch the isuzu trooper behind Big Iron my Ram and do some exploring out there. Congrats man, looks like nice country out there. I keep saying the same thing about NY. They are strangling everything up here, as a essential worker (excavation plumber ) I work every day, can't see why everyone else can't too if they're smart about it.
Great video! Congratulations to Kim for the new position! Los Poblanos is a sweet fam / inn and Albuquerque is on the upswing. I lived in Santa Fe for 20 years before my wife pulled me to CT a few years ago...then met you and the crew at Overland in VT. There is a lot to explore in NM, have fun and let me know if there is something or someone in particular you want to connect with and I will see who I know. We will likely be moving back eventually. Cheers!
There is an overland center opening in West Charleston that is acres and acres. Just returned from Cold Hollow and had a good time hiking and riding the Percherons ! Los P used to be a great spot waaaayyyy back when. YOU should have caught New Mexico in the 60s and 70s.
I'd be really interested in another video from you two both talking more in depth about your impressions of Albuquerque and things you learned along the way. Perhaps areas of town you considered at moving to, new favorite restaurants, tips for bike trails nearby, etc.
Pretty much agree with everything you just said. I prefer the lay of the land in the east with the deep forests in the mountains and on a trip I took out west last year it seemed more like sand and rocks. Of course I didn't hit every single spot but good luck with your new beginnings.
I moved here in April, I love yards with tons of trash, no jobs or low paying, empty buildings, businesses closing, yard sales offering 50 cent items for $9.00 Rentals for $1500 per month, homes way overpriced, trailers for $35,000, 105 baking in summer 25 at night in winter, if it fits u will love it.
The reason the virus isn't that bad up here is partly because vermont is relatively rural but is due in much larger part to how seriously the local and state governments took this crisis. The reason there aren't that many cases is because the state shut down and people here are taking it seriously. It's confirmation bias to say the virus has had little effect based on low case numbers when those low case numbers are due to the lockdowns.
Economy is now ruined, due to the over-reaction of an overreaching tyrannical governor here in NM. An illness with a 99.9% recovery rate for those 70 and under the reason. All you need to know here in the land of mañana is "blue no matter who". órale
@@JamesStJean-kl9pv As far as I know, the events will proceed as planned. Another fellow Vermont Overland staff is taking over the home base. Lots of dreams coming true for people.
There are a lot if amazing places here in New Mexico. Not just Taos and Santa Fe!! Listen to the locals, and see the desert for its own beauty. White Sands, Ruidoso, Eagle Nest, the Gila and Silver City...I could go on and on. P.S. Please record with your volume higher. I can barely hear you. 💛💚🧡❤️💙💜
Peter, Congrats on your new adventures and opportunities in New Mexico. I am disappointed, though, that you have such a narrow perspective of the impact of COVID 19 on the Vermont--and on every state. I now understand your decision to go forward with the bicycle race in August. You believe that the virus is no big deal in Vermont and politicians have over-reacted causing unnecessary harm to the economy. And, since you have control over your business--promoting and profiting from bike races on public roads--you decided that you don't want to be unnecessarily harmed. I wonder how the community members feel about you bringing over a 1000 people from all over the Northeast and beyond into a small town. Your announcement of your decision to go forward with the Overland didn't mention that you no longer live in Vermont--and did not mention anything about refunds for those unwilling to participate in the event. Will you be offering refunds?
@@Bobbie-G As it turns out, he ended up feeling the way I do because he canceled the race. And, yesterday the nation added 170k new Covid 19 cases-the highest rise since this whole thing began. I hope we all feel the same way about this pandemic now.
Dude..Vermont is getting its but kicked with the shut down stuff..like the big hole in the ground, the mess at battery park and all the out of states not playing by the rules..its real..I camped almost every weekend this summer and the out of state crap was brutal...was at Hero's welcome last weekend..masked up and doing the right thing..and Boom 20 Massholes dropped in ..no masks and no regard for the locals.. I hear what you are saying but. , open your eyes a bit...with respect
70th comment. Hi, I was just looking for NM videos. I wouldn't think of living in NM, but I think it's a great place to develop sustainable businesses, sustainable villages, tiny house villages, van life villages if you can find a good well. 40 million Americans from middle class will hit poverty or under poverty because of the pandemic and poor leadership. I would think 20 million evictions will take place. We will not have 20 million subsidized housing to catch them. They'll end up on the streets. What if materials are donated. State provides water, sewage, power, gas, streets for free. Habitat for Humanity etc partners with you including some 20 or so foundations, local universities with architecture, urban planning, filmmaking, sustainable agriculture came on board. Well, a great sport like you and hospitality industry executive like your wife... Yeah, you got yourself a 21st century reductionism, minimalism happy epicenter going on there. Oh, I'll give you 7 years, you'll be in great condition. You can pull it off. With those ice caps in NM, yeah. You can. Water independence Food independence 501c3 Lenient architecture restrictions You have everything you need. My relatives lived in Vermont and left.
