  • In this video, we dive deep into the latest developments of the MC-21 program, Russia's ambitious project to develop a new generation of passenger aircraft. Alexander Dolotovsky, the Deputy General Director of PJSC Yakovlev and Director of the MC-21 program, shares insights into the key priorities for the coming year, including completing import substitution and launching the aircraft into commercial operations.
We explore the major milestones achieved, such as the completion of certification flight testing on import-substituted MC-21 models and the decision to re-engine a third aircraft. However, we also discuss the challenges faced, including delays in serial production due to ongoing tests and the need to address remaining constraints.
Dolotovsky provides a detailed overview of the steps required to achieve the program's goals, including coordination of all processes related to the aircraft program, transparent planning, and collaboration with suppliers. He also highlights the importance of a consistent and progressive approach to ensure the success of the MC-21 program.

It's a MATTER of National Security and National Survival for the PD series engine, MC-21, and SSJ to overcome all issues

If the airplane is made just by domestic components it will be of lousy quality. Because no country of the world can produce all components on world-class level, let alone backward Russia. Such are the economic laws. Very simple.
The Soviet Union tried this and failed. Today North Korea is the last self-sufficient countries, with catastrophic results. There is no alternative to international cooperation. And this is also the path that countries like Brazil or China are following to create a modern aviation industry. Putins regime does the opposite, returning Russia into a dark past.

I think if all the airworthiness tests are not perfect, it doesn't matter if they have to be delayed. The issue of the need for aircraft continues to be pressing, it would be better to buy a Tu-214 first. Maybe this is not an ideal choice, but it still makes sense rather than daring to fly an Airbus with damaged components which we also know are due to sanctions from the West.

Let them take time to do things right and have all things in place than rush the project. It will tally, but eventually will come. As for coorperating with the West, i would not take that route ever again. Why beg someone you know wants to destroy you to be friends? Delay does not mean denial or failure. It's important to identify urgent priorities and challenges and address them. I once said this about a week ago that, Russia needs to incorporate all these aircraft making firms into one. Why not make IL96-400, TU 214-400, SJ-100 into one entity. These planes don't have to compete with each other after all. Just make one regional narrow body, one long haul international plane. Modernize the PS engine.

All firms are united in UAC - United Aviation Corporation of Ru, but each firm has own school, traditions, priorities and organization. The UAC is responsible for the high level strategical management & planning, financial services and coordination between firms/producers/design centrs.

We still don't know what exactly is keeping the Russians from starting mass production. Is it a technical issue? Are there still parts of the project that are waiting full domestic development/production? And what is that excess 6 tonnes thing we hear about? Is this a real problem or is it fake? And what is the cause? And are they solving it?

My idea assume MS21 still only operate Russia, Euro and USA cancel certifi safe for MS21 in spite of verry modern. Why not manufacture large number TU214 about 500 unit and IL96-300 250 unit. That plane was certifi safe in the world.

Progress in aviation industry is always the main driver of the overall technological level of the country building the modern aircraft and its engine based on the latest technologies.

The Boeing 777 X hs has now been delayed for seven years. I wonder if the British can make some VC 10s for those waiting.

Further delays of MC-21, new director of the project, and the jet needs to be shortened. That‘s the news from the never ending story of the jet. After nearly 20 years of „development“ serial production of MC-21 is not even in sight. It has become a symbol of inefficiency and corruption of Putins oligarchy.
Main problem is the bureaucracy and nepotism in Russian economy. All old Soviet jet manufacturers like Tupolev, Illyshin, Yakovlev, Sukhoi still exist but have been united into UAC. Also producers of components like jet engines (Aviadvigatel) and composite wings (Aerocomposit) are part of UAC. UAC in turn has been acquired by Rostec which meanwhile unites half of Russian industry. The boss of Rostec is the 72 year old KGB veteran Chemezov, an old spy colleague of Putin from Dresden times. It is clear that such structures never could produce any competitive jets. Later, sanctions for Putins war have been issued.
What should been done? First, Russia needs to stop the war against Ukraine in order to return to international cooperation. Second, replace Putins oligarchy by market economy. Then the country will get a chance to create a competitive aerospace industry.

What bullshit are you talking about ? The MC-21 does not need to be shortened. The MC-21-310 will keep the exact same dimensions as the MC-21-300.
The MC-21-210 is another model of the MC-21 family. This is a separate project to allow Russian airlines to fly further with a bit less passenger capacity (150 to 180). This model is currently in design phase and it is NOT a priority for now. All the work and efforts are currently focused on the MC-21-310 (up to 211 passengers).
