I have an infrared sauna at home with speakers and fiber optic colored lighting, and Jobim's Finest Hour is the only CD that is ever in there. This masterpiece is track 9, always right around the moment that you really start "melting". The perfect soundtrack to sweat out a long day and really slow things down. This song (and entire album) will always remind me of the sauna.

It's syncopation is like "Bird" in it's complexity and intricacy... but with the restrained rhythmic engine and long-form, is the study and experience of romantic restraint, timing and delay of gratification!

That happened long after Bossa Nova was commercialized and commodified by American pop culture and the capitalist forces. They are the lukewarm water equivalent of the true, original Bossa Nova and MPB sound, which evoked a feeling of a deep red like a nicely aged wine. Sinatra & Jobim = lukewarm water. Joao Gilberto, Edu Lobo, Marcos Valle, Osmar Milito = Red Wine.

Jobim starts to learn the guitar very young then the piano at 14 years, his teacher was Hans-Joachim Koellreutter, a german music composer and teacher born in 1915, who moves to Brasil in 1937. Koellreutter teach the theory of atonal music to a lot of famous Brasil musicians. (wikipedia).
